2. Harsha Bhogle addressed
the audience at the ‘Are
You in the List’ Awards
Night with a motivational
speech.
Connecting sports to HR,
Harsha began by asking
the audience, “When a
cricketer plays well under
one captain and
underperforms under
another, is this a cricket
issue or a people issue?”
3. He further spoke on
challenging the stereotype,
like he always has.
While advocating
change, he said, “I am very
delighted that these
awards are encouraging
young people, because
young blood harnesses
change. Often, we don’t
like change because we do
not want to go outside
what we are good at.”
4. Continuing on the people
aspect of sports, Harsha
deliberated; for a team to
perform well, it is important
to let people go.
“While managing a team,
nurturing talent is a critical
aspect of leadership, but it
is crucial to let people go as
well. We can’t deny that
Alex Ferguson was a genius,
because he let David
Beckham go,” he said.
5. Harsha further stressed
that success in sports is
about understanding
people better.
“Strategy in sports is not
about tactics, but about
understanding people.
Good leaders give talented
people the environment
to flourish,” he expressed.
Putting talent under
pressure only results in
shortening of the shelf
life, he reasoned.
6. With a strong message on leadership, Harsha congratulated the 25
Young HR Leaders of tomorrow and concluded his speech.
“A good leader is never insecure and can tell talented people when
to use what faculty. As a successful people manager, you must
understand that managing mavericks is about leadership letting
them do what they do best!”
