4. The Problem The primary causes of premature death and injury are preventable in 75% of the adolescent population. Almost 3/4 of adolescent mortality is a result of motor vehicle crashes, homicide, suicide and unintentional injuries. These causes are rarely screened or directly counseled during heath care visits . The majority of health problems among adolescents are due to risky behaviors rather than biological dysfunction. Statistics suggest that today’s adolescents are engaging in risk behaviors at earlier ages and with more diversity. Health risk behaviors increase dramatically during each year of adolescence, especially between ages 11 and 16.
20. Customer Testimonials I used to dread coming up with a way to discuss at risk behaviors. The RAAPS gives me a way to not only bring it up, but identify risky behaviors that warrant intervention. It puts sensitive topics right out on the table for discussion and helps teens feel more comfortable discussing topics that impact greatly on their overall health. Very specific questions for adolescents. We find out so many are being threatened in school and have thoughts of suicide that we did not know were having these issues. Also, it does provide a gateway for students to ask questions about STIs.
