Why the Western Bypass Won’t Work

Is a Waste of Your Money

2. Where did we leave off ?

3. Oh, yeah.
Rt. 29 is a mess.

4. We have the Six Fixes
that would solve these
problems in a long-lasting,
sustainable way.

5. BUT,
if the Western Bypass goes
through, it could be decades
before the Six Fixes
are built (if ever).

6. So, what is this Western Bypass, exactly?
Let’s take a look.

7. Meet the proposed
Western Bypass.

8. Proponents say that:
A lot of traffic
using the Bypass
+
Significantly less traffic
on Rt. 29

9. = Happy people.

10. It would be great if it worked out that way..
But it won’t.
Here’s why:

11. Approximately
90% of the traffic
on Rt. 29 is local traffic.

12. In other words,
90% of these people
are headed to a
destination on Rt. 29 or
in the surrounding area.

13. So, reality wouldn’t look
like this

14. It’d look more like this:

15. While some trucks & cars
wil use the Bypass.

16. While some trucks & cars
wil use the Bypass.
The majority of traffic wil stil
experience the existing
traffic knots.

17. While some trucks & cars
wil use the Bypass.
The majority of traffic wil stil
experience the existing
traffic knots.
And the entrances/exits
of the Bypass wil
worsen two existing
traffic knots.

18. If $250,000,000 of
our transportation funds is
wasted on this Bypass..

19. Where wil we get the
money needed for
the ‘Six Fixes’ to Rt. 29 ?

20. Starting to think this Bypass doesn’t
make a lot of sense?
Wel l, there’s more..

21. Let’s get some
perspective here.

22. As it turns out,
the Bypass isn’t much of
a bypass.

23. In fact, it would only
bypass 4. 5 miles of Rt. 29.

24. So, this would leave
seven existing stoplights
immediately north of
the Bypass..

25. With at least
two more stoplights
already approved..

26. Not to mention the
other two that would be
instal led at the southern
terminus of the Bypass.

27. With the projected
development and population
growth --
these two areas of congestion
are going to be bigger
problems soon..

28. And the Bypass
won’t address those areas
at al l. In fact,
as we saw earlier..

29. At the end points of
the Bypass, congestion wil
actual ly get worse.

30. Add the current mess
that the Bypass won’t solve,
and what do we have?

31. Taxpayers down
$250,000,000 -- with an
ineffective bypass &
three traffic messes to
show for it.

34. Making matters worse, the Bypass wil take
4-5 years of construction to complete..

35. . . it wil run right
by our community’s
primary water reservoir. .

43. The Bypass would expose our water supply and our children
to higher levels of pol lution and new traffic dangers.

44. We deserve better.

45. TAKE ACTION:
We deserve long-term, well-planned solutions for our traffic
problems – like those laid out by the Six Fixes.
