16. Cancer and Mitosis Cancer relates with mitosis. They relate because mitosis is the process of cell division and cancer needs mitosis to make more cancer cells. Cancer cell division is faster than regular cell division. When cancer is in the body system, it creates its cells quickly to spread them around the body and soon infect it with cancer. The cell division process of regular cells starts of with one cell with 46 chromosomes (2n) then to one cell with 92 (4n). That cell divides into two cells that have 46 chromosomes in each cell. From there the process starts over. However cancer cells use that same process, but it goes faster and thus more Cancer cells are produced than regular cells are.
