What is the Pretty Brown Girl Club?
The Pretty Brown Girl Club is a club for girls from the
ages of four to college-aged young women who have
joined together to “Dream Big”, have fun, learn, laugh
and celebrate who they are and the skin they’re in
while promoting positive self-esteem and confidence.
The Pretty Brown Girl Club encourages and inspires
girls to celebrate their "shades of brown" through
activities and bonding. The clubs are self governed by
female volunteer Club Leaders and supported by the
Pretty Brown Girl Movement.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why a Club just for Girls?
Gender specific activity is crucial for the development of girls. Girls are faced with so
much confusion and mixed messages in their daily lives. In a setting catered to girls,
they can connect with each other and an adult Club Leader who can invest in them
through dialogue and activities and help them grow in their understanding their self-
worth and discover the answers to the questions they face.
Why Celebrate the Shades of Brown Girls?
We seek to empower girls of color whom receive very few positive messages as it
relates to their self image in the media and society at-large. Any girl is welcomed to join
Pretty Brown Girl as long as she supports our mission. We value diversity and do not
discriminate on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic
status or physical disability.
