18. NDP Comments
• Here is what I told Jack Harris on the Military
• FYI – Jack Harris never responded to my email, why?
• Dear Mr. Harris,
• What is the NDP commitment for the Military? It seems to me you will cut military spending like the CF18 replacement and/or frigate contract,
right? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32bySE5UMw4
• Where does Mulcair stand on the Military? http://www.vanguardcanada.com/2015/07/13/mulcairs-military/
• Facts
• Fact 1 - Harper has put money back into the Military after years of neglect under the LPC - http://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/military-spending-for-canada (see slide 4). I
bet you argue the % spent of GDP on the military is lower than previous period. right? http://www.tradingeconomics.com/canada/gdp. GDP is now close to 2 trillion from 1B in
the 1990s. So, in absolute dollars there is now $18B spent on the military.
• Fact 2 - Harper is replacing equipment that is old and prone to breakdowns - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/six-cyclone-helicopters-delivered-as-part-of-tories-
miltary-spending-spree/article25046506/ or http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/new-canadian-warships-to-be-designed-and-built-over-30-years-in-26b-project. Will you
honor these purchases? If not, then you should be telling PQ, ON, NS and BC that will not see a boost from spending that their jobs are in jeopardy. It seems Ms. Leslie and Mr.
Davies provincial areas are the ones at risk when it comes to jobs losses, right? I should remind you that Mulcair's speech "http://www.ndp.ca/news/tom-mulcairs-speech-
economic-club-canada" quotes "Aerospace is a good example. If President Obama can go to China to help seal the deal for Boeing, I will go to world’s largest aerospace trade
events - England’s Farnborough, or Le Bourget in Paris to fight for our crucial aerospace sector.” Harper - http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/world/canada-china-agree-on-
series-of-deals-haul-fall-short-of-2012-trip/article21513359/. Yet, no comment, why?
•
• Fact 3 - Harper has set up funds to support Aerospace, but no comment by the NDP, why https://www.ic.gc.ca/eic/site/ito-
oti.nsf/eng/h_00022.html or http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2014/12/07/ottawa_investing_millions_in_pratt_and_whitney_maintaining_and_creating_1500_jobs.html.
Does your party even look at existing programs? http://www.slideshare.net/paulyoungcga/federal-government-programs-canada
•
19. NDP Comments
• Fact 4 - the new frigate and/or purchases benefit the aerospace/defense industry which is key area for Quebec, but no comment,
why? https://www.defenceandsecurity.ca/media/article&id=273&t=c. Yet, the defense industry pays very good wages? So, why not come out say what your party will do with the
military?
• Fact 5 - Harper never said he would put armed soldiers in the cities. Harper did say he wanted the Military more agile, right? http://news.nationalpost.com/full-
comment/soldiers-with-guns-in-our-cities-in-canada-turns-out-paul-martin-was-right. NDP is great at twisting words around to their favor, but the problem is they are low on
facts and heavy on emotion, right? http://www.citynews.ca/2015/04/21/by-the-numbers-2015-federal-budget/
• Fact 6 - Canada's military has roles to play in natural disaster or NATO/UN mission. Canada needs to prepare to honor any commitment of NATO. It seems to me that neither the
NDP nor LPC seems to understand Canada's role within NATO and/or UN, why? I guess it is all about emotion and not the facts, right?
• Fact 7 – Disaster responses in Canada - The Military was in SK fighting the forest fires, right? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/saskatchewan/soldiers-at-work-fighting-
saskatchewan-forest-fires-1.3144538 or http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/more-canadian-troops-en-route-to-flood-ravaged-southern-alberta-1.1336646
• It is funny how the NDP talks a great story, but never backup its statements with actual facts that align to reality.
• Regards,
• Paul Young

Government has gave no indication that will stopped any of the projects, but may adjust the timelines due to fact that it may be faced with other priorities.
