Franciscan Bread for the Poor and the St. Francis Breadline
1.
2. Paul Lostritto, a parish priest at St. Francis of Assisi
Church, was recently accepted into the New York
University master’s nursing program. A registered
nurse, Paul Lostritto possesses experience working in
hospice settings. His interest in serving the public also
extends to feeding the community. As the executive
director of the St. Francis Breadline, a part of
Franciscan Bread for the Poor, Mr. Lostritto oversees a
project that provides food services for citizens to
ensure they maintain proper health.
Franciscan Bread for the Poor has more than 80 years
of history feeding those in need.
3. From nourishing citizens struggling through the
Great Depression to providing sustenance for
underserved communities, the organization has
made a significant impact in the state of New
York. This success comes from the generosity of
volunteers, who join together to supply and
serve food. Since its inception, the St. Francis
Breadline has worked with volunteers from all
walks of life, including military veterans and Girl
Scouts, who converted their troop dues into
loaves of bread to supply the public.
4. The organization continues to rely on the
public to carry out its services. Working in
partnership with the Franciscan Friars of Holy
Name Province, Franciscan Bread for the
Poor welcomes all compassionate people
to volunteer on the breadline or transport
groceries to those unable to attend in
person. Additionally, volunteers can help
maintain the food pantry and perform
administrative duties as needed.
