I’m not a super successful author, but here are 10 things I’ve done that have gotten me more people to engage with and sell to.
My niche is very specific and most people don’t care about it. Buying a list is a waste of my money.
Here’s the growth I’ve gotten when I started giving one of my books away to get people to sign up for my list.
You don’t have to share every day, but from what I read, every other day keeps people engaged.
Here’s the page for my first book, “Podcasting Church” (available at http://amzn.to/podcastchurch).
You can mention your stuff eventually, but on forums, you want to build friendships first.
This is one of the forums that I’ve built my fanbase on.
Some sites aren’t right for some videos. YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world, but your video might be next to a cat video. Vimeo is frequented by videographers and motion artists, so funny videos of cats aren’t as welcome. DailyMotion allows nudity and sexual content, so if your content isn’t that type, you shouldn’t go there.
This is my youtube page (http://youtube.com/sempei13). Notice that I’m using a branded background.
Engage with people and you’ll build fans.
Here’s my twitter page; notice it’s also branded.
My blog traffic increased to the point that my normal weekly traffic is now my normal daily traffic.
Here’s a recent blog post I did on my blog at http://trinitydigitalmedia.com/blog.
I assume there are other people like me with my interests so I pin stuff I like and sometimes stuff I’ve made.
This is my pinterest page. The first board is books I like. The second is stuff I’ve made. The third is tutorials, etc.
I try and reuse everything so that it’s better use of my time.
This is a link I found to a cool stop motion animation of “The Dark Night” trailer.
Here it is in my weekly tweet digest.
I’ve highlighted it here to make it more legible.
Here’s the book I’m writing using the tweets I’ve tweeted over the past year. I only have one problem:
I want it to be 1001 tweets, but it’s 1978. Too many is a good problem to have.
Google plus is very visual, so put pics up there. When I was working on the cover for my first book, I had my fans look at it. I took their feedback and it’s a better cover because of it.
Here’s my google plus business page.
Think of a blog tour as a book tour, but you’re just guest posting, doing interviews, giveaways, etc. to get your name out.
I wrote this article for http://churchm.ag to help get my name out.
Have a launch event with a too good to be true offer. I’d seen this idea before, but when I saw:
This book, I really wanted to do his offer. It was all forms of the book (print, ebook, audio book, free reports, free videos) all for the price of the book. Just send him the receipt during the week he was doing it and viola--free stuff. As a result, this book was on the NY times best seller list.
