You can drill from Year, a summary value, to Quarter, a more detailed list of
data, to Month, an even more detailed list of data.
Conversely, you can drill up to summarize data.
To continue the preceding example, you can drill up from the Month level to
see the monthly data summarized at the Quarter level. Similarly, you can drill
up from Quarter to Year to summarize the quarterly data.
The functions can be performed through the Ribbon as well.

on the values displayed in the grid. For example: you
can set the number of Top/bottom items filter by
top/bottom percent displayed, or show values that are
greater than or less than a specific value.
• The At level checkbox enables you to specify at which
level of the hierarchy the filtering will be applied. For
example, the “Time” dimension includes the levels
“year”, “quarter” and “month”, you can choose which of
these levels to apply the filter on.

For the View component you have 3 presentation choices, they can be shown with Grid only, Grid and Chart at the same time or just the Chart alone.
The dimension menu is available by clicking on a dimension’s heading. The arrow appears as you move the mouse over the menu. It contains options that apply to the dimension from which the menu is opened.
Demonstration / Exercise.
When you pivot a dimension, you are moving the dimension into or out of your view or reversing the axes of dimensions already in your view (i.e. swapping rows and columns).
Replacing Dimensions
Use Replace… option to move dimensions into or out of the view.
Replace Dimension
You can replace a dimension in the crosstab with a dimension from the slicer and set the slicer to the default member (typically the All level) of the dimension.
To replace a dimension in the grid with a dimension from the slicer:
1. Click on dimension’s small arrow to display the context menu.
1. Click on the Replace <dimension name> option and select the dimension you want to display out of all available dimension
Dimensions are nested when two or more dimensions are placed on a single axis. There is no limit to the number of dimensions which can be nested.
To nest a dimension, select the option Add before or Add after out of the drop down context menu and then select the dimension you wish to add.
Drilling lets you move between summary and detailed data in the crosstab and chart.
When you drill down, you see more detail. For example, a common drill down is used with the Date.Fiscal dimension.
Members have a different menus that will be discussed in a later section of this module.
Standard
Shows different levels in the Hierarchy.
Standard with Parents Layout
This is similar to Standard layout, but shows also subtotals for the parent members in the selected dimension.
Tree Layout
This layout displays the dimension’s members and their parents in tree format, with subtotals at parent level.
Flat Layout
This layout removes hierarchies from the dimension by hiding the parent member headings and showing just the members for which data is displayed.
The Standard with Parents Layout shows us the values of the parents in the first dimension. If there is more than one dimension, then you can see the totals for each dimension by using the Grand Totals and Sub Totals options.
Grand Totals – total for all members. Even those that are not displayed in the grid.
Sub Totals – total of selected (displayed members)
Show Totals Below – by default totals are displayed above the values they are the total of. You can select to show them below the Values.
Member properties are items which do not fit easily in to a dimension structure but do represent valid data in reference to that dimension. So you could represent a customer dimensions with the name at one level you might also want their e-mail address but this does not really make sense in the dimension levels but as a member property is perfect.
How do you calculate the total of individual members that are not under the same hierarchy member? For example: you need the total for June which is in Q2, and July and August, which are in Q3.

From the Members menu you have many new options, such as creating a formula
These are basic formulas – advanced formulas are covered in the Advanced Analytics module.
Note that the formula selection is dynamic so if you select a single member the formula options with change because SUM is not valid for a single member for example
Changes made to the workboard will not be saved unless you save them using the save button.

If you would like only specific members to be displayed in the grid, there are several methods for doing this.
The first method is by selecting the members that you don’t want to be displayed, and then hiding them.
When members are hidden there is NO indication of this (if items are hidden you are not wanting to alert others to this fact), to see if items are hidden choose a show … option from the Hide menu.
Note the checkboxes:

Sets are stored in the systems just like WorkBoards, you can create Public (if permissions allow), Private and Share your sets with others

Slicing the data shows only specific members of a dimension. For example, from the Delivery Date.Fiscal dimension you can choose to view only “July 2006”.
To slice the data, click the Slice Data icon on the left hand side.
A list of dimensions appear.
When a Workboard includes more than one view, if you move the mouse over a dimension, you can see which views this dimension is relevant to. For example: when we hover the mouse over “Delivery Date.Fiscal” we see one view that is highlighted, consequently only this view can be sliced by Delivery Date.Fiscal . Before being sliced, the views show data for all items, you can choose to see data only for a specific item or multiple.
When the workboard has only one view, or when a view is maximized, only the filters that are relevant to that single view will be listed in the menu on the left.

To Filter the crosstab:
1. Display the Filter pane
2. Click on dimension to expand and expose its members
3. Select the member(s) you wish to filter by.
4. Click Apply from the main area or from the Filter pane to apply the selected filter, or select a different member(s) from the other available dimensions.
Once a filter is applied, note that the filtered members are displayed in the header
You can always access the dimensions and display the member(s) by clicking on the members name from the header. This will open up the dimension and display the member(s) selected.
Select Members allows you to create a selection within the slicers this means that you can no longer choose from all available member options
All of these actions can also be found in the Dimensions selector and the Ribbon

When you choose a member on one of the axes, it will sort the members on the other axis according to the selected members value. In the example above: choosing to sort by unit sales will sort the months according the number of units sold in each month.
The difference between sort and filter is:
Sort – all the members in the grid are sorted and displayed.
Filter – all the members in the grid are sorted, but only the top X are displayed.
The default rank method is to display the top or bottom 10 items.
In the Filter menu, you will also find the Value Filter by … option. This option enables advanced filtering based on the values displayed in the grid. For example: you can set the number of Top/bottom items filter by top/bottom percent displayed, or show values that are greater than or less than a specific value.

Reorder changes the default ordering of the members, this can be useful because the cube does not have an ordering system so members tend to be shown to the viewer in a fairly random order.

An action of this type is defined on the cube by your IT, it can be of many types such as a drillthrough to data, which shows the underlying rows making up the number you see in the cell, a map as you see in the example and much more.
