- Digital Portfolios are a graduation requirement for the class of 2010 and beyond (our current Juniors and all classes below them). The Seniors at our school are the only students who do not have digital portfolios. This is a statewide requirement, not just something that we are doing at PRHS.
- Taskstream is the tool that we use to manage digital portfolios. www.taskstream.com. Students can access from school and from home.
- More than a place where students store their digital work. It is also a mash-up of their academic and personal lives. A means of organizing, summarizing, and sharing artifacts or work, assessments, goals, transcripts, pictures, videos, letters of recommendations, awards… A place to display and keep track of personal growth- and reflect on it. Digital Portfolios are a place to Show What You Know.
- Everyone needs to know what Taskstream is and what the 4 buckets are… not how it works. The digital portfolio allows students to save and organize work that demonstrates proficiencyin each of the four expectations.
- The seeds for digital portfolio are planted in their K-8 schools. Students have been working on this for three years before they even walk in our door. During Freshmen Seminar, students are taught how to use TaskStream- and how we have organized portfolios at our school.
- Students need to Grow their digital portfolios. They should be adding school work from across the curriculum– and reflecting on it.
- Students portfolios should be filling up! They should continue adding work from across the curriculum- in a variety of formats.
- Review everything in their portfolio and filter out the “Best Work.”
- Lena put together 3 great questions to ask in order to write a reflection. There is research that states that reflecting on school work is often considered more beneficial than doing the actual work. 1. What did I do? 2. What did I learn? And 3. Which one of the school’s expectations did it meet?
- We can help by making the technology transparent to you. Lena is available to make this easier for you. She can help integrate technology into your units, or she can meet your class in the computer lab and walk them through uploading an assignment into their portfolio . If a student forgets their userID or pw, call us (or send them down to us). If a student needs help digitizing something, write them a pass to the library. We are here to help make this easier- and glad to do it. Students will be reminded of their userIDs and PWs during advisory.
- If you would like to build your own Teacher portfolio, come to the library to see Lena. She will set you up with an account and show you how to use it. If you would like to be more involved in the future of digital portfolios at the high school, come to the Digital Portfolio Committee meeting on September/October ?????????. We will send out a reminder e-mail and ALL are welcome. We will be discussing what is going to happen during the senior year.
