- We very much believe that Android is one the best ways to teach young people mobile application development. For this reason, we are starting to teach Android in the mobile programming courses instead of JavaME from september 2010 onwards.
- Everyone can participate, who is under 26 on the submission deadline. You also have to be from Belgium. There’s no need to be a student by the way.
- You might argue, there aren’t that many young people that know Android development. And you’re probably right. To counter this problem, we have some initiatives. We will help you get started. We have three initiaves: (1) an Android 101 event, (2) an Android Summer School and (3) a mobile /Android roadshow
- To help the promotion of android development, we will be organising a 1-day Android 101 event. With a reasonable price. 1000 EUR is way too much of course. How about 100 EUR? Mmm, I think we can do better than that. 10 EUR, enough to cover for some basic expenses? Well, we think this should be completely FREE of charge and that’s how it will be.
- Additionally, we will organise an Android Summer School, which will be a 3 or 4 day event. The purpose is to provide hands-on, guided training, to get up to speed with Android development. This even will be held in Diepenbeek, we have computer labs available. The date and price for this still have to be determined. Everyone can register.
- To inform young people about the android contest, we will be doing a roadshow, where we’ll promote mobile in general, inform young people about the opportunities that mobile devices and mobile applications offer. Besides that, we’ll also foresee the possibility to hold an Android session, where we will do some live coding,
- What rules apply for the contest? There will be several categories: location-based and student life will certainly be some of them. The complete list of rules wil be made available when the website launches.
- So, “how do I get involved” you might ask? Well, today we’re not yet opening up the contest, we’re merely announcing it. Soon, we’ll put the contest website online, with a complete list of rules, the members of the jury, the important dates to keep an eye on, the practical process, … The best way to keep up-to-date is to follow @ on Twitter.
