 Who are effective teachers?
 What is Effective teaching?
 What are the qualities of Effective teaching?
Qualities Of Effective Teachers

 Effective teaching focused on the personal qualities
of the teachers themselves. Researches revealed that
these teacher’s characteristics include; Knowledge,
Warmth, and Clarity
Qualities Of Effective Teachers

1.Teacher’s Knowledge...
Effective teachers
know how to
transform their
knowledge into
examples,
explanations ,
illustrations and
activities.
 They make the content clear .
 They have more confidence in their teaching material
Plus points:

Continued..
• Their students score
good in test.

BUT what if the teacher does not have that much
knowledge about their material?
 Their students will have vague concepts .
 Low test scores.

 Organize your lessons carefully.
 Strive for clear explanation.
 Provide objectives that help students focus on the
purpose of the lesson.
 break the presentation into clear steps.
2.Clarity and Organization

 Don’t make assumptions about what students know.
 Ask students to test their understanding.
 Summarize key points
Continued..

3. Enthusiasm and Warmth

 Communicate your day’s lesson with enthusiasm.
 Eye contact
 vary your pace and volume in speaking.
 Tell your students why the lesson is important
Continued..

 Review and check previous work.
 Present new material.
Make the purpose clear ,teach in small steps and provide
many examples.
 Provide guided practice.
For examples :
* Students practice reading or writing with the help of the
teacher
*Reading out loud.
 Give feedback.
 Provide Independent Practice.
 Review weekly and monthly consolidate learning.

2.) Selecting Reinforcer
 Ask what the student
likes
 Bring your fav toy

 Response cost
 Reprimands
 Importance of non-verbal cues
 Some Cautions
 Task#5: Video Demonstration
Coping with Undesirable behavior
through techniques of:

 It’s a "toll" or "fine" imposed in response to the
student's display of "bad" behavior. A penalty is
assessed for his/her having shown inappropriate
behavior.
 If you were to take away
a point/token/raison/raffle ticket/candy
piece away from a youngster's collection because of
a rude remark or failure to stay on task, that would
be response cost (a cost that is imposed for that
response).
Response Cost

 It's always best to have kids earn points (and be
denied more if they misbehave...with accompanying
encouragement in which you state your belief that
they can do better), rather than giving them points
for having done nothing (and then removing them
when kids misbehave).

Reprimands
A reprimand is a verbal
technique that is used to
reduce inappropriate
behavior. Broadly defined,
reprimands include any
attempt to decrease behavior
through verbal means, such as
talking, lecturing, pleading,
yelling, reasoning, or
threatening

Types of reprimands
 Immediated v/s
delayed reprimands.
 Soft private v/s loud
reprimands

 Smile
 Eye contact
 Gesture
 Posture
 Voice and vocalization
Nonverbal cues

 Two Step Action
Some Cautions
Carry out the
punishment and
suppress the
undesirable behavior
Clear what the
student should be
doing instead and to
provide reinforcement
for those desirable
actions.

 Keep your schedule
Preventions

Undesired behaviours..

 Build trusting and
strong relationship with
students.
 Reflect your intentions
through nonverbal
communication.
Understand Your Students

 Being mindful of Precipitating Factors and early
warning signs helps you focus on prevention.
Example: seat the child away from her friends.
Be Aware

 Keep to a few rules and make sure that they’re clear,
simple, and positive.
 Guidelines include:
• Three to eight rules
• Focus on the positive
• Understandable, reasonable, and attainable goals
•charts Posted in classroom
• Student involvement
• Consistency with school rules
• Support of effective learning principles
Set some rules

 Follow your timeline
 The more organized you are, the more opportunity
there is to focus on teaching and learning.
Keep to the Schedule You Set
