Media language
Low key lighting is used in this opening sequence this is to give a hostile and scary
atmosphe at this a common convention within horror movies.Throughout this opening
sequence there is only one character being filmed, due to the disturbing content of the
broken fingers and other groosem immedry we asume he is the antagonist .Colours used
throughout this opening sequence are dirty brown and yellow with hints of blue connoting a
cold atmosphe certasinly not inviting or friendly. There are also splashed of red implying
blood and gore.As there is no body pictured in this opening sequence there is no costume
depicted, as for location we see a very darkly lit room with creepy tools and pictures.Non
diegetic sounds are running throughout this opening sequence it is a smooth beat staying in
the same rythme all the way through.
Narritive
Linear narriative is used for this opening sequence. We see the man going around his home
and completing different tasks in chronological order.Fincher uses camera shots to connot
the enigma code to the audience even when using close up shots he hides the identity of the
man pictured whilst hiding the mans face; Fincher does show the audience disterbing
images that the man is looking at which instantly make us fear the man and want to know
who he is and why he has these images. The only chacter type present in this opening
sequence is Antagonist.
Representation
In this opening sequence is being represented I believe this to be a positivr negitive
representaion this is a fair representation. The representation is conventional. Media
language shows us this because Ideologys suggested by this represetation are this
representation links back to the target audience in many ways some include; the fact that the
target audience enjoy thriller/drama movies.
2. Camera Angles/Shots/Movements
The camera switches to a close up shot of a hand , the identity of the
person remains hidden and the tention that the hand has to the
concrete floor alludes to some sort of physical struggle.
Fincher uses close up shots throughout this opening sequence to show the
audience what the man is sticking into his jernal. This immediately gives the
audience a reason to fear the man.
We then see a close up shot of a hand lighting a match this builds
even more suspention, a close up shot is used to show the
audience detail that they would not normally see in midum or long
shot.
Fincher uses a long shot of a mysterious island in the middle
of no where this intreges the audiance and brings questions
into their minds for instance, is this where the film is set?
What conection does this island have to the film?
Fincher uses a low angled shot to show the aduiance a room that
appears to be a dungon, a low angle is a good shot to get a good
view of the room we get a lot more of the room then if he had
used a point of view shot.
