Overview of DMPonline (http://dmponline.dcc.ac.uk) given on 20 May 2014 at workshop on Writing Data Management Plans preceding OpenAIRE/COAR 2014 in Athens, Greece. The workshop took place in the context of the Horizon 2020 Data Pilot and in particular the guidelines on data management (http://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/data/ref/h2020/grants_manual/hi/oa_pilot/h2020-hi-oa-data-mgt_en.pdf). The slides feature screenshots of the Horizon 2020 template in DMPonline, which is based on annexes to that guide.

If a user chooses a funder, they will create their DMP by completing a template provided by that funder. The institution they select may supply additional questions to answered in addition to those of the funder. If they didn’t select a funder, but did select an institution and that institution has provided a template, that is the template they will complete.
If the user doesn’t choose a funder or institution, or doesn’t choose a funder and selects an institution with no template, they will create their DMP by answering generic questions from the DCC.
The guidance displayed next to each question when completing a DMP can be drawn from multiple sources. Firstly, the owner of the template will likely have included guidance for each question. Guidance can also be included via themes. Template creators can tag each question with one or more themes. Guidance can be similarly tagged. When looking at a question, the user will see any guidance provided for that question’s themes by their selected institution and from any additional guidance sources selected. Institutions can also tie guidance to specific questions, though this is discouraged.
