Alguazas Municipality is located 14 kilometers from the capital city in the Vega Media del Segura river valley region. It has a flat topography and dry climate with low and irregular rainfall concentrated in spring and fall. Summer months are characterized by drought. Natural vegetation is sparse due to the arid conditions. The economy is based on agriculture, especially irrigated crops that represent over 80% of cultivated land, as well as industry and services. The population has grown from 2559 inhabitants in the early 20th century to 8855 currently, with a birth rate of 12.19%.
