2. General Idea
We have drawn inspiration from Francis
Coppola’s Godfather. Our general idea is a
parody of this which is based around Marlon
Brando’s portrayal of Vito Corleone. We have
decided to create a brand of hotdogs entitled
Dogfather hotdogs.
3. Target Audience
Our target audience is predominantly adult
males and enthusiasts of vintage mafia movies.
One of the main things with the mafia is family,
and the notion that nothing should come before
the family. We have incorporated this in our
radio advert to appeal more to people with
families.
4. Television Advert 1
Our main advert is a reconstruction of a scene of which is
regarded as one of the greatest scenes in the history of
cinema.
It is a parody of the opening scene of the first Godfather
movie. However, to make it more applicable to our
product Bonasera character in the opening scene states
that his hotdog stand has been vandalised as opposed to
his daughter being physically abused like in the film. The
“Dogfather” replies “you don’t come to me out of
friendship, you come to me out of hunger” We resume
the play on words throughout the advertisement, all
based on the same scene.
5. Television Advert 2
This advert is based on the scene from the
Godfather which in the restaurant where
Michael kills Sollozzo and McCluskey. However
we are just going to use the initial part of the
scene where Sollozzo tries to make a deal with
Michael, but we are going to change it so that
Michael is describing the hotdogs. We are
looking for Humorous tone in this advert and it
focuses on the selling points of the product.
6. Sponsorship Sequence
We have based our sponsorship sequence on the
scene from the Godfather where news of Luca
Brasi’s death comes to Sonny. In the scene there is a
Teflon vest with a fish inside wrapped up. In our
sequence we will have a vest containing a hotdog
which will also be wrapped up.
This is our basic idea for the dialogue:
• “What’s this”
• “It’s a Sicilian message it means Luigi Lorenzo
sleeps with the pigs”
7. Radio Advert
We plan on having the Godfather theme music
playing in the background, and a voice actor in
character as the don.
This is our initial idea for the dialogue:
“When it comes to family, why settle for second
best? Only Dogfather hotdogs contain the most
succulent cuts of pork, the freshest buns, and
comes with our family recipe sauce, such quality
at such a low price makes Dogfather hotdogs an
offer you can’t refuse”
8. Following On & Future Ideas
We have thought of other scenes from the
Godfather which could be used as a basis for any
future advertisements for the product, such as
the scene of Luca Brasi’s death, where he chokes
on a low quality hotdog. Another idea we had is
using the final scene in the movie, but
reinventing it so that the Godfather is preparing
hotdogs in secrecy.
9. Following On & Future Ideas
We have also considered branching out to other
mafia themed movies such as Scarface,
Goodfellas and The Departed. Switching the
films and creating new parodies will help the
campaign stay fresh and interesting, whilst
ensuring the integrity of the idea and the
product remains intact.
