Advanced Custom Fields プラグインは、アドオンを追加し、拡張する仕組みがあります。 Flickr Field(作者: Paul Huisman)、Location Field(グーグル地図、作者: Brian Zoetewey)、HTML5 数値フィールド(作者: 水野史土)を取り上げます。これらのアドオンを開発するには、Flickr、グーグル地図、HTML5の仕様を調べる必要があります。一人あるいは一つの会社が、Flickr、グーグル地図、HTML5すべてに精通するのは難しいかもしれません。一方、Flickr に詳しい人は Flickrのアドオンを作る、グーグル地図に詳しい人はグーグル地図のアドオンを作る、HTML5 に詳しい人は HTML5のアドオンを作る、というように、自分の詳しい分野のアドオンを作成すれば、各自が仕様を調べる手間は少なくなります。そして、各自が作成したアドオンをお互いに提供し、共有することにより、一人あるいは一つの会社で開発するよりも効率よく開発することができます。
