Winnipeg police officer who had contact with Tina Fontaine back on duty
1. Winnipeg police officer who had contact with Tina Fontaine
back on duty
One of the two Winnipeg police officers who last had contact with Tina Fontaine before she
disappeared -- with her body later found in the Red River -- has returned to work.
The officer had been placed on administrative leave, but the internal process related to his case is
complete and he has returned to duty, a police spokesperson confirmed to CBC News on Friday.
The other officer remains suspended without pay, as the process in his case is not yet complete,
according to police.
The spokesperson would not give any further details about either case.
2. The officers had come across the 15-year-old girl as part of a traffic stop on Aug. 8, 2014 -- a week
after she had been reported missing -- but did not take her into custody.
The officers apprehended the driver of a vehicle that Fontaine was in, but let the missing teen go.
Her body was recovered from the river on Aug. 17. Her death is considered to be a homicide, but no
arrests have been announced to date.
3. Neither officer will face criminal charges in connection with Fontaine's case.
