- The purpose of this presentation is to give someone without any exposure to cloud computing a brief overview of why you would use the cloud. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the biggest cloud platform in the world.
- Compared to what we have now the pre-cloud way of doing this was antiquated in every way. When you wanted to build your application or platform and expose it to the internet you needed to buy, install and manage a lot of different pieces of hardware and software.
- And what you have to do is even more complicated and expensive if you have to do disaster recovery (DR) or business continuity planning (BCP). Costs will double or maybe even more if you have to find a secondary site to house your stuff. If you have your stuff hosted in a data center it is a step towards cloud computing but it’s still hard to get things done.
- Now days, you can build the environment that you used to host yourself in the cloud. This provides all the components you used to use as on demand commodities. It’s cheaper to run and quicker to change than any other solution. They have more expertise than you do with more advance gear than you will have. This means AWS will do a better job of providing a stable and resilient platform for your business.
- AWS provide a lot of additional features. So, as your technology needs increase they probably already have a service which will meet your needs.
- Because AWS supports a lot of organisations around the world already and they have been listening to their customers in regards to their needs. They have built solutions for most needs already.
