This presentation defines open educational resources, both in theory and in practice, and describes important differences between these. This presentation introduces the "Linkable and Free" (LAF) view of OER and the Window Shopping metaphor for reusing LAF resources.

- 17. So That’s the Theory What’s the practice?
- 18. Practice is Fast and Loose For many people, open means only: Linkable and Free
- 19. Why Does It Matter? The Web gives use free, linkable access to billions of resources!
- 20. Window Shopping With “Linkable and Free” resources you can look but you can’t touch
- 21. Local Control & Empowerment If you can’t make and distribute your own copies, you’re always at the mercy of vendors’ whims
- 22. Continuous Quality Improvement If you can’t make revisions when necessary your organization can’t get better
- 23. Open is an Ideal For a variety of (good) reasons, the ideal is approximated with varying fidelity
- 24. A Spirit of Openness We welcome and appreciate everyone’s efforts toward sharing and being open
