A.student demonstration #1; a. student prepares for a research project
1. A. Student
Demonstration #1;
How to get started
on a Research
Project
A. Student is getting started on
his research project,
A. Student is getting started on
his research project, … just like
you.
2. The beginning phase of a
Research Project can appear on
a student’s horizon like a great
fog.
The term “research project” is
daunting and overwhelming
because a clear vision of the end
product - the final paper - and the
path to it does not immediately
present itself for all to see.
...and while we wait for the
project to clear itself up, the very
important first step often
becomes the step not taken.
3. The best way to get started is to
get started.
...and the best way to do that is
to go to the Lib guide; “The
American Dream since World
War II” to understand the
directions.
4. Because the directions seem
long, I might decide to put it off
until tomorrow..
...but I know what it means to
put off to tomorrow what I could
do today.
..it means I have started the
dreaded
Procrastination cycle.
...it will be important for me to
reverse the dreaded
procrastination cycle at the
start of my project, by
establishing a habit for doing
my work today, instead of
tomorrow.
5. The first thing I can do today,
which won’t take very long, is to
visit the Step One Tab on the
Lib Guide to read the Help
Pages.
I quickly realize that the Help
Pages provide detailed, step-
by-step directions for both the
content and focus
requirements of the step.
Clearly, the directions for how to
do everything I am asked to do
are clear. Clearly the key to
success in this project is to
read and apply carefully the
directions for each step.
6. Next, There are things I can do
today to get organized that
won’t require a lot of time and by
getting them done early, I can
reverse the dreaded
procrastination cycle.
7. Getting organized includes a list
of things to do which does not
take a lot of time to complete. So
if I do this today, I can be done
with half of the content
requirements long before the due
date.
To create my Google Docs
Folder, I go to my Google Drive
and create a new folder.
I title the folder by my last name
followed by the title of the
project.
I share the folder with my teacher
by writing in my teacher’s cbury
email address and I make sure
my teacher can edit the folder..
8. I can set up my Easy Bib Project
just as easily
I can access Easy Bib from my
Google Docs Drive by clicking on
the Icon to find EasyBib.
I set up my new project the same
way. I Make sure to select MLA
for the default style and I share it
with my teacher
10. Finally, It is a good idea to
manage my time. I can visit the
calendar in my portfolio folder to
visualize the due date for the first
step and the time I have to
complete the step.
I can also use the Check-List
provided with each step to set
target dates for completing
specific tasks in the step.

11. When I take simple steps to get
organized and establish a habit
for managing my time, I take
control of my project.
And its beginning to look like
smooth sailing ahead.
