A Powerful PowerPoint A guide on how to successfully create the perfect PowerPoint.
Before you begin your journey.. When beginning to plan a presentation, try to think of the END first. Ask yourself what do you want the readers/students to get out of this? This will help you organize your presentation. Create an outline to help you visualize your presentation. Start your outline with an opening that will grab your readers attention.
------- Guiding Lines ------- Make sure you are consistent within your presentation, for example- Don’t start with talking about Zoo animals and end up talking about boats. This way you can make sure your reader stays focused. It’s all about the “flow” of your presentation. There are specific ways to keep this flow on track. Chronologically – Explaining how something happened. Spatially- For giving directions. Casually- Explaining cause/effect. Problem/Solution- describing a problem, followed by a solution. Topically-For open-ended topics.
A colorful font When creating a PowerPoint you want your slides to STAND OUT , this will also help the reader stay focused and enjoy what they are viewing. Choosing a font is not hard to do. Make sure you use something that fits your message. Fonts show mood (Mad, stern, happy, excited) Color is very important in a PowerPoint, be sure your message is visually pleasing. Dark backgrounds with light text of light backgrounds with dark text. Example- Blue background with yellow font color. Yellow background with red font color. Sizes are very important in a presentation. You want the viewer to be able to read the font, who knows there might be a viewer who has very bad eye sight, so you want to make sure EVERYONE can see it. Notice about how I capitalized “Everyone,” capitalization can help deliver your message and make the reader slow down. Do not overuse capital letters, this can become unappealing and confusing to read.
D.E.R. is the key to success You want to grab the readers attention. To do this, ask yourself 3 things- Deliver your slides: A slide helps readers focus Explain: Explain your slides so that the viewers can have full understanding. Reaction: You want a reaction at the end of your slide, this can include questions, or comments.
Be familiar with your PowerPoint You wouldn’t read a speech to an audience without memorizing it would you? The same for a PowerPoint make sure you know what your talking about, this case if anyone has any questions, you will be able to answer them. Being familiar with your presentation will help you deliver it with more enthusiasm. You will feel more comfortable in front of the classroom. And when your comfortable, the viewers will feel more at ease on taking in the information given.
Check please! Before waving your white flag to success, be sure to review all slides. Make sure your vocabulary and punctuation are corrected. Ask yourself, Will my readers enjoy this? If you want, you can ask someone to view your presentation and have them tell you if there is something they would add, remove, or just leave alone. Now pat yourself on the back, you have created the perfect presentation.
