Missing Cell Phone
Ah Meng was laying down carpet in a wealthy
woman’s home. As he was finishing his job, he got a
sudden urge to light a cigarette. He looked around for
his pack of cigarettes but could not find it. Then he
noticed a bump in the carpet. “Oh damn it,” Ah Meng
cursed, “my pack of cigarettes is under the carpet and I
have laid the carpet over it.” He decided not to take up
the carpet…it would be too much work. Instead he got
a hammer and pound the pack of cigarettes into the
ground. He believed no one would know.
When he had finished the hammering, the owner of the
house walked into the room and said, “Oh, you have
done a wonderful job laying the carpet in the hall, Ah
Meng. I am sure you must be looking for your
cigarettes. Here’s your pack. I found it in the kitchen.
Oh yes, by the way, did you see my hand phone?”
Reflections
* Too often we make terrible mistakes by jumping
into conclusions based on what we see on a superficial
level. More investigation is needed.
* Some workers in carrying out a paid task do not do
an honest job. They cheat and cut corners. They will
leave to regret their dishonesty.

Honest Lawyer
A shrewd and diligent investment manager of a
successful company needed a lawyer for his company.
He began interviewing some prospective young lawyers.
Starting with the first applicant, the manager said, “I am
sure you understand that in a business like ours, honesty
and personal integrity are of utmost importance. Leaning
forward, the manager asked, “Mr Ganeson, are you an
honest lawyer?”
“Honest?’ Ganeson replied. “Sir, let me tell you
something about honesty. Why, I’m so honest that my
father gave me a loan of twenty thousand dollars for my
tertiary education and I paid back every cent the minute I
had my very first case..”
“Mm..that’s impressive,” the manger commented. “What
sort of case was that.”
The young lawyer leaned back a bit and said, “”My
father sued me for the money.”
Reflections
* High Blood Pressure can be attributed to various
factors: genetic, too much salt intake, and stress.
* We must learn to have the right attitude towards our
work and relationship with others. A mind that is calm,
free from worry, anger or ill-will will be healthier.
