The more you hate a trait in someone else,
the more likely you are avoiding it in yourself.
(It is easy to see the faults of others, but difficult to see one's
own. A man broadcasts the fault; of others like winnowing chaff
in the wind, but hides his own faults as a crafty fowler covers
himself. Dhammapada Verse 252 )
Dhammapada
Verse

3. 3
Today we have bigger houses and
smaller families; more conveniences,
but less time;
(Are we terribly addicted to endless sensual delights?)
我们居住的房屋越来越宽敞,家庭却越来越小型化;
属于自己的时间却日趋减少;
4. 4
We have more degrees,
but less common sense;
more knowledge, but less judgment;
(Mere academic or intellectual knowledge won’t make a person
wise; we need to learn and practice the Dhamma.)
却愈加频繁地陷入对常识的茫然中;
却越来越缺乏对于外界事物的准确把握和判断;
(仅仅学术或智力知识不会使人变得聪明;
5. 5
We have more experts,
but more problems;
more medicine, but less wellness.
(Are we not neglecting our mind development to strengthen our
emotional health and spirituality?)
问题却也日渐增加;
6. 6
The more you try to impress people,
the less impressed they’ll be.
(People can see through the Ego or conceit of the person who likes
to brag or show off his so-called admirable qualities.
Be your true simple and virtuous self.
Your practice of right speech and action will tell.)
7. 7
The more you fail,
the more likely you are to succeed.
(“Develop success from failures. Discouragement and failure are
two of the surest stepping stones to success.” —Dale Carnegie
Success comes from improvement and improvement comes from
failure. There’s no shortcut around it. )
——Dale Carnegie
8. 8
The more connected we get,
the more isolated we feel.
(Despite being in more constant communication than ever,
research finds an increase in loneliness and depression in the
developed world over the past few decades.
Man needs spirituality to have meaningfulness in life.)
9. 9
The more choices you have,
the less satisfied you are with each one.
(Research shows that when we’re presented with more options,
we become less satisfied with any particular one we go with.
Beware of the mental defilements of greed, craving and
attachment. They lead to suffering.)
10. 10
The more you’re afraid to fail,
the more likely you are to fail.
Frequent negative thinking conditions the mind adversely. Beware
of ‘self-fulfilling prophecy’. Have positive thoughts –
‘Think you can, and you CAN!’

to
Fail
11. 11
The only certainty is that nothing is ever certain.
The only constant is change.
(This is one the 3 natural Dhamma Truths –
Anicca (Imperpmanence), Dukkha (Suffering)
and Anatta (Non-self). Practice meditation
to realize this and you will be free from Dukkha.)
(这是 3 个自然法谛之一 – Anicca(无常)、Dukkha(苦)
和 Anatta(无我)。
