• Si Tanggang is an example of a
story for young readers that gives
a better understanding of
Malaysian culture to the readers
as the target group are the
young readers from Malaysia. This
is because the story are being set
during old times of Malaysia.

• Interest
• During this age, boys and girls
does not share the same
interest. Boys are attracted to
adventurous genre such as
Jack and The Beanstalk, The
Country Mouse and the Town
Mouse and Conan.
• Meanwhile, girls are interested
to genres such as fairytales and
fantasy. For example, Alice in
Wonderland, Snow
White, Rapunzel and
Cinderella.

• Moral values
• The story book should contain moral values that children
can learn so that they can apply it to the real life.
• For example, in the story of Jack and The Beanstalk, moral
values of bravery are being introduced to the young
readers. We must be brave to stand for what is right so
that we will not stray from what is wrong. Other than
that, Jack also was pictured as a kind-hearted person
where he is willing to trade his cow to an old man in
exchange of some magic beans.
