Editorial
robably the biggest misconception when it comes to adopting a vehicle
tracking system for fleet management, is that the company drivers will
strongly oppose it. We have always known this was not the case in most
circumstances, from the numerous cases where Frotcom was implemented.
But now there is clear evidence that we were right.
Arval, one of the leading vehicle leasing and fleet management companies,
interviewed thousands of European fleet managers of companies where vehicle
tracking systems had been installed.
One of the questions was about the
acceptance by drivers of the gathering
of driving behaviour data. The replies
were quite interesting. In the case of
small companies, 85% of the managers
reported that drivers were open or had
no opinion about the system. Only 8%
were reluctant and 7% were strongly
opposed. In the case of medium and
large companies, 81% of the managers
reported that drivers were open or had
no opinion. 14% were reluctant and 5%
were strongly opposed.
In sum, in the majority of companies where vehicle tracking systems are installed,
drivers have a positive or neutral view of it.
Why so, when in fact this type of system undeniably increases the control over the
driving behaviour? We believe that a vehicle tracking system is seen by the good
drivers as the chance to finally provide evidence to their hierarchies of that good
driving behaviour. For them, it is finally the possibility to see their skills and
behaviour duly recognized by the company. Naturally, for the not so conscious
drivers, the feeling is not so positive.
This is good news also for the companies thinking of adopting a system such as
Frotcom. In fact, in the same study, Arval found that the number of both small and
medium/large size companies which have telematics systems – vehicle tracking and
fleet management systems – is bound to continue to increase.
Frotcom always recommends that the company inform upfront the drivers of the
implementation of the new system, explaining how it works and what it does (and
does not). This normally reduces misconceptions and increases acceptance.

New Features
Job dispatching has never been SO EASY!
Frotcom announces the launch of the new Workforce Management module.
At the beginning of this year Frotcom announced the development of a new
Workforce Management module (see January 2013’s newsletter). After the final
touches, April 2013 is the month that marks the official launch of the Workforce
Management module.
The module is designed for companies needing to dispatch jobs to their mobile
workforce, at the same time maximizing their productivity and keeping a real
time control of the operations.
With the new module, based on Android 3G tablets and smartphones,
companies are now able to better control their mobile workforce.
The Workforce Management module in Frotcom improves the communication
between the office and drivers or workforces, by allowing companies to interact
with them in several different ways and managing closely the assignment of jobs
and their execution. Companies can track in real time how each job is
progressing.
Benefits
Dispatch jobs easily and keep them under
control – Assign jobs to the most suited
vehicle/drivers and then monitor the
progression of each job against the plan for
the day;
Minimize fuel consumption and get there
on time – Drivers can navigate directly to
their destinations using the integrated
navigator; no more driving around;
Increase productivity – Drivers will be
able to complete more orders without extra
strain – and use their time in a better way;
Document every step of the way – collect
forms from the field at each milestone:
proof of delivery, refused jobs, refuelling,
waiting, etc.

Only 28 countries have good
road safety laws
A new report on road safety issued
on March, 2013, by the World
Health Organization (WHO) calls for
more comprehensive legislation to
address all the key risk factors to
reduce fatalities and injuries.
The Global status report on road
safety 2013 states that only 28
countries, covering 7% of the world’s
population have comprehensive
road safety laws on:
- Drinking and driving;
- Speeding;
- Failing to use motorcycle helmets;
- Seat-belts;
- Child restraints.
It also shows that while 88 Member
States were able to reduce the
number of road accidents that
number increased in 87 other
countries.
Etienne Krug, Director at the WHO’s
Department of Violence and Injury
Prevention and Disability says, “Road
accidents are man-made and what
need to be done is known. I am
talking about driving, speeding, the
wearing of seat belts or motorcycle
helmets and the use of child seats.
These are five key behavioural risk
factors”.

Case Study
Dauti Transportshped has complete confidence in
Frotcom
Dauti Transportshped is an international transportation company, based in
Skopje, Macedonia, that works all around Europe. The company adopted
Frotcom to improve the connection between the office and the drivers and to
offer real time freight tracking to all clients.
Behind every successful manager there is a successful team - this basic saying from
the business world completely corresponds to the success of Dauti Transportshped.
Their real treasure is the enthusiasm, determination, knowledge and team’s hard
work which, along with the use of modern technology, are an excellent guarantee
for the company’s development.
Dauti Transportshped started using Frotcom in
September 2010. They currently have a fleet of 30
vehicles equipped with Frotcom and 15 more are
on the way.
According to Mr. Daim Ramadani, General
Manager at Dauti Transportshped, “Frotcom
solution helped us to reduce costs in the past 2.5
years and to manage our fleet more effectively
and efficiently. The use of Frotcom has enabled
Dauti Transportshped to execute more jobs on
time and thus, to increase productivity. There are
many tools in Frotcom that are of great value to
us, such as real time tracking of the freight,
CANBus information and control of fuel
consumption. One other big advantage of Frotcom
is the easiness of receiving the information
through automatic reports and alarms.”
Mr. Irfan Ramadabi, Transport Manager at Dauti
Transportshped also added, “After analysing the
solutions available in the market, we certainly did
the right thing choosing Frotcom. We can say that
Frotcom satisfies our needs and we can count on
24/7 support when needed. We would like to
highlight that our investment has paid off.”

Tip of the month
How to see the
frequency chart in Frotcom?
In every graph in Frotcom you will
find two symbols at the right end
corner:
By default, the graphs will show you
the evolution with time, as shown
above for ignition and speed. But, if
you click on the right symbol, the pie
chart, you will be able to see the
same data, under pie chart form. For
example, if you choose the pie chart
for the speed graph, here is what you
see:
If you put the mouse on top of the
pie chart, you can see information
about each section.
You can try the same in several
graphs in Frotcom:
Ignition;
Speed;
Door open status (optional,
requires sensor);
Temperature (optional,
requires temperature sensor);
Fuel level in tank (optional,
requires CANBus or fuel level
sensor);
Engine RPM (optional,

Engine temperature (optional,
