English 101 Research Paper
English 101 might seem like an easy course to take for some students. For other students such as
myself, English 101 was one of the classes I feared and procrastinated on taking. Coming from an
ESL background, English was the class I have always struggled with the most. I've always excelled
in science/ mathematics courses. I prefer the correct answers to be facts and universal. Creativity is
not my forte. The process of putting your thoughts down on paper in an organized manner, with
correct punctuation, and citing works used, seemed like a complicated, tedious task before taking
English 101 this summer.
Taking a look back at my past writing assignments and drafts for each one, I can clearly see the
improvement in organization. My first draft for writing assignment 1 was basically one long
paragraph. I clearly remember Mr. Bogdaniec's advice on how to separate and create individual
paragraphs that only contain one topic or main idea. Also with his handouts on writing an
introductory paragraph and how to write the conclusion paragraph were extremely helpful in putting
together my first writing assignment in this class. I followed the steps on brainstorming and then
steps for creating a plot, and didn't feel overwhelmed and confused as I had anticipated. I followed

Bogdaniecs teachings and instructions was punctuation, specifically commas. I was one of those
people under the wrong assumption that commas were placed whenever there was a pause in a
sentence or you are listing off multiple items, adjectives or verbs. Obviously I was wrong. In
writing assignment 2 I had a few mistakes where I forgot to use correct punctuation. After
reviewing Mr. Bogdanic remarks on assignment 2, I was able to go back and correct my
punctuation mistakes and get a 105 out of 100 points for my revision. I finally understood why we
use commas, and the importance of placing them in the correct location of a

Throughout this semester in the Introduction to Academic Research course, I learned a great deal
about research. We covered a wide variety of topics that encompassed topics such as methods of
field research, the unknowns when conducting research (the Black Box activity), the differences that
exist among fields when using the word "research", and many others.
I'll begin with what I learned about myself. Throughout this course, I learned a great deal about my
future interests and the characteristics I exhibit when participating in a group project. When working
with Rob Geis and Martin Castro, I searched constantly and relentlessly through the CIA database to
find any information relevant to our project and the argument we wished to make....show more

I believe my research interests lie within the American South. I am fascinated by the historic and
economic elements of the region that I call home. I personally believe that learning about your
interests is important but the strengths, values, and limitations that you bring to the table are
more important. Learning this about yourself helps to address your own weaknesses and to find
individuals that balance the research group out. Throughout this course, I also learned a bit about
research. My concept of research changed very little. Throughout high school and the IB
program, I learned how to evaluate sources, the importance of primary sources, and other
elements of research. In my senior year, I completed an original work entitled "How has the
internet changed the market structure of local news with reference to the Augusta Chronicle in
Augusta, Georgia?". The research paper was over 24 pages and nearly 4,000 words long. I
received an A (a grade received by 10.59% of all students involved in most difficult international
high school program in the world) for my Extended Essay grade from the IB Economics
examiners in India. I was also asked to complete research reports in other individual courses. One
of these reports included my IB History of the Americas class. In this report, I examined how
accurate the media portrayal of Jefferson Davis following the Civil War reflected his personality

What I Have Learned Essay
What I Have Learned
When I think about what counts as learning to me, I think about my life. Just being able to live in
this world to me is a learning experience, because I feel that my life is full of lessons and I believe
that it takes lessons to learn in life. I feel that I have learned to understand learning more and to
also understand the value of learning. As I get older I can comprehend subject matters more than I
could ever do before. I am learning to be more serious and I find myself not taking life for granted
anymore.
I also feel that maturing counts as learning for me because growing up I was continuously being
called immature. For me, maturing counts as learning because I find myself doing things I never

I feel that I have to get rid of bad habits in order to make room for better habits that I need for
everyday life. I am learning better habits everyday. Even though I did bad on my first exam I feel
that counted as learning for me because now I know what it takes for me to receive a high grade on
any test I take.
The biggest learning experience to me so far is life itself. I feel that way because there is so much to
learn in life. It takes growing up for me to learn in life. I am now beginning to understand the value
of learning because a year ago I did not appreciate learning. I did not value it like I value it now. I
took it for granted as if learning could just be given to me. I realize now that it has to be earned. My
attitude in high school was bad because I really did not feel I was learning, so I took it for granted.
In high school I felt as if the teachers were jokes and I also felt they did not care about educating
me properly. I am now starting to learn the value of an education. I now look forward to learning
new things everyday. I feel that I am beginning to have a passion for learning. I never thought that
I would feel this way about learning because I never did appreciate it like I do now. I now actually
yearn to learn; I feel that I need to learn new things. Every assignment I have done in college is
teaching me something new. I think I feel this way because I am maturing and I now view learning
differently than I did

Essay about Sampling
Sampling
Carrying out a survey of every single potential consumer (known as population) of a firm's product
would be impractical, time–consuming and costly. Businesses still, however, need to collect
enough primary data to have a clear idea of the views of consumers. This can be done by taking a
sample of the population. This sample group should be made up of consumers that are
representative of all potential buyers of the product. There are a number of ways in which a sample
can be chosen.
Random Sampling
This method gives each member of a group an equal chance of being chosen. In other words, the
sample is selected at random, rather like picking numbers out of a hat. Today computers can...show

So, if the business was interested in how 'class' affected consumers' demand for a food product, it
might divide the population up into different class groups, such as working class males, middle
class females etc. A random sample could then be chosen from each of these groups by making
sure that they were the same proportions of the sample in each category as in population as a
whole. So if the population had 10 per cent upper class males, so would the sample.
Quota Sampling
This sampling method involves the population being segmented into a number of groups which
share specific characteristics. These may be based on the age and the sex of the population.
Interviewers are then given targets for the number of people out of each segment who they must
interview. For example, and interviewer may be asked to interview 10 males between the ages of
18 and 25, or 15 females between the ages of 45 and 60. Once the target is reached, no more people
from that group are interviewed. The advantage of this sampling method is that it can be cheaper to
operate than many of the others. It is also useful where the proportions of the different groups within
the population are known. However, results from quota sampling are not statistically representative
of the population and are not randomly chosen. They must therefore be treated with caution.
Cluster Sampling

components being the chip and GPRS receiver. The microchip is a passive device and hence
contains no internal power source. The chip contains an inductor and a capacitor. The silicon chip
contains the identification number plus electronic circuits to transmit information to the receiver.
The inductor acts as a radio antenna and is ready to receive electrical power from the receiver.
The combination of the inductor and capacitor acts as a tuner. The receiver presents an inductive
field that excites the coil and charges the capacitor, which in turn energises and powers the IC. The
IC then transmits the data via the coil to the receiver. The chip is encased in a biocompatible glass
made from soda lime, and hermetically sealed to prevent any moisture or fluid entering the unit.
This ensures that livestock is not affected physically or behaviourally by the presence of a chip in

Essay on My Family History
My Family History
Family history is very important to an individual. By knowing where you come from, you can have
a better perspective of your life. Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you
to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the
average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see
that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A
persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. It alone can bring you closer
to self–discovery.

One of these is that on Thanksgiving everybody comes together to my parents' house in New Jersey
for a huge feast. On Christmas only my mother and the children (me and my brother) travel to Illinois
to spend a week with my grandparents. On New Years Eve we all get together at my parents'
house in New Jersey and toast to the New Year with champagne and apple cider. During Labor
Day weekend all of my family travels to South Jersey to my grandfathers' condo. We usually
spend all of our time on the beach and barbequing, except on Sunday when we go to church. After
all, my grandfather is a minister. One of our biggest family traditions is going back to Puerto
Rico. Every year my mother and I travel back to Puerto Rico for a portion of our summer
vacation. Now that I am older I travel there more often and stay there much longer. My father never
joins because he doesn't like my mothers side of the father too much and he thinks that we when we
speak Spanish we are all plotting against him. Of course that's not true though. My bother doesn't
speak Spanish so he doesn't like to go either. I guess that tradition is one that belongs solely to my
mother and I.
The role of the people in family basically stayed the same for most of the generations with a little
change in the later generations. Earlier the males were the only ones that worked in the family and
the wife stayed at home and took care of the house and

Essay on Psychology Class Reflection
Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before
went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been
introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I
have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental
processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try
and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every
day. Having a better understanding of why we operate the way we do will help me to better

role confusion stage. (Gerrig & Zimbardo, 2009) It is a coping mechanism that probably stems
from his childhood in some way. This is just one example of how I am seeing the world from a
more psychological perspective. I now try and form some theory about abnormal behavior rather
that just shrugging it off. While I have not really had any experience with anyone with any very
serious psychological conditions I see now that there is much more than meets the eye when it
comes to their behavior. There is typically some sort of explanation that can be found in
psychology and I think if everyone had a basic understanding of psychology they would
understand the abnormal behavior a little better. After this introduction to psychology I can now
also better understand my behavior and understand the things that are affecting my life. There are
certain aspects in my life that limit me from making the choices I may prefer to make. I have
obligations and responsibilities that I must maintain in order to provide a decent life for my
family. There is much at stake for me and I cannot always just do whatever it is that I would like
to do. As a child I was raised in a house where honesty was the key. It has been instilled in my life
and to this day I know the right thing to do is to be honest. My parents were very good at
instilling a since of honor in me. I am still not sure how they did it but I know it affected the
decisions that I made and make today. I was always

Importance Of Qualitative Research
1. Session: Introduction to Qualitative Research in Psychology
Qualitative research not only refers to the techniques used to collect and analyse certain data but also
to a field of research in itself. The different philosophical positions have in turn informed the varied
approaches to qualitative research.
As an exploratory type of research, it seeks to gather the in–depth understanding of the behaviour of
a sample group. The personal opinion, values and experiences of them. It affords the opportunity to
observe the participants behaviour as well as allowing the researcher to delve into the participants
beliefs and really probe to obtain a greater detailed understanding of the issue.
Qualitative research techniques are flexible and normally conducted in naturalistic settings using
semi structured data collection methods as this accommodates the deviation to obtain that greater
depth of answer. There are different types of analysis used for example, Interpretive
Phenomenological Analysis, grounded theory, narrative, thematic and pattern based discourse
analysis.
Unlike quantitative research that use numbers as data and statistics, qualitative methods rely on
words and meaning. It seeks to understand the problem rather than quantifying it placing more
emphasis on subjectivity rather than objectivity.
Qualitative methods tend to use smaller sample sizes due to the personal form of research putting
the persons perspective at the centre of the work. The results are

Introduction to Psychology Essay examples
Introduction to Psychology The concern about life is a main human characteristic. No matter if his
concern is concentrated in himself or in persons or things that surround him and constitute his
environment, everybody wants to know why people, himself included, behave the way they
behave. Everybody, also, wants to improve his behavior, so as to live in harmony with himself and
the society. The Greek word Psychology, is a word consisted of the words
ψυχή–soul and λόγος–utterance, talk. So,
generally, psychology is the science that examines the soul. But , since the psychologists work on
the problems of the personal, family, school, professional and social life, we could say, more...show

The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the
way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are
behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic are
behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can
explain about it. Since our infancy we learn about behavior through the experiences and the
knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society
leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes
we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology comes to give answers to all this uncertainty.
Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious,
unconscious, verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic
researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal one. Such a thing is very
difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is
normal according to one society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is
not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So, the judgement of a
behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place .

Hypothesis and Research Question Essay example
Research questions are formulated in a study to inquire about variables, both independent and
dependent variables, and the relationship between them. Research questions are categorized into two,
that is, qualitative and quantitative research questions. Qualitative questions are used in qualitative
research like case studies, surveys and action research where the approach is non–numerical and
analyses special phenomena that occur in nature. Quantitative research on the other hand is more of
a systematic approach with measurable numerical quantities that go through analysis to prove a
hypothesis. Finally, the research hypothesis is either approved or disapproved with regards to the
results of the analysis (Laureate Online Education B.V....show more content...
It must be logical, and provide a concrete base for any differences between the variables. It must
also be simple and clear.
A hypothesis can state the following: there exists a positive relationship between employee
performance and flexible working hours. Whereas a research question could generally be: do
flexible working hours affect workers productivity? You can clearly see that the hypothesis states
clearly and it is more specific in its prediction unlike the research question (eNotes.com, Inc 2011).
Hypothesis is typically used in quantitative research only. Moreover, when a question poses an
inquiry on the relationship between two variables, a hypothesis is a statement declarative in nature
of the relationship between different variables (Pajares 2007). A researcher chooses whether to use a
question or a hypothesis depending on the purpose of the research, its objectives, the methodology
for the research and the preference of the audience to receive the research. A researcher must be able
to interpret the final outcome with reference to the research questions or the hypothesis used
(Pajares 2007). A research requires a minimum of two hypotheses namely a null and an alternative
hypothesis.
So, somebody can make a certain observation and come up with a hypothesis about how and why a
phenomenon occurs the way it is. Hypothesis could be

Research Methods Essay
Quantitative and Qualitative are said to be systematic in different design. Both design have to follow
a process system that involved defining a principle of research.
General speaking, quantitative research is thought to be objective, however qualitative research
often involves a subjective element. There are differences designs in qualitative research in
comparison to quantitative research. Qualitative research involves words, pictures, or objects;
Quantitative involves data in the form of numbers and statistics.
However, the researcher uses in–depth interviews in qualitative research to find out how the subjects
view their world. In quantitative research the researcher uses precise measurement to predict
hypotheses. Whereas,...show more content...
Qualitative research is conducted in a natural setting and attempts to understand a human problem
by developing a holistic narrative and reporting detailed views of informants about the culture of a
problem. It forms a report with pictures and words. One of the most important distinctions that sets
qualitative research apart from more traditional types of research is that qualitative research is
holistic in that researchers study phenomena in their entirety rather than narrowing the focus to
specific defined variables" (p. 93). Similarly, Cresswell (1984) indicated that qualitative research
"is defined as an inquiry process of understanding a social or human problem, based on building a
holistic picture, formed with words, reporting detailed views of informants, and conducted in a
natural setting" (p. 2). Cresswell's definition clearly delineates the major characteristics of qualitative
research. Pg. 50 (Smith & Davis, 2010). Pg. 51 (Smith & Davis, 2010). "How do researchers
evaluate trustworthiness?" Guba and Lincoln (1994) proposed that trustworthiness could be judged
by the following criteria: conformability, dependability, credibility, and transferability.
For Example, Qualitative researchers use conformability, dependability, credibility, and
transferability to evaluate the trustworthiness of a qualitative research report. In order to prevent
researcher bias they can have other researchers point out

Title: An investigation into the impact of group pressure on an individual's estimate of the amount
of beads in a pot (ginger granules in a jar).
IV = Group/Individual
DV = Individual beads estimate
Abstract
This experiment investigated the impact of group pressure on the individual. The hypothesis is that
group pressure does indeed impact on the individual and in this case the individual's estimate of the
number of ginger granules in a jar. Participants were asked to make a judgement of the number of
ginger granules in a jar, first individually and then as a group. The individual participants were then
interviewed again to see if their estimates had changed. The results proved the hypothesis that group
pressure does make an impact...show more content...
It will be performed using a method similar to the one used by Jenness in his experiment. This will in
effect test the reproducibility and validity of the Jenness experiment. There are no contentious or
controversial issues surrounding this experiment and its method, and it is certainly within the law
i.e. there are no deceptions or misleading intentions toward the participant; it is fair.
Hypothesis
The influence of group pressure will affect individuals' estimates of the number of ginger granules
in a glass jar. The estimate of the individual will change after a group decision to lie closer to the
figure of the group.
Method
The IV was the group or individual, and the DV was the number of ginger granules in the glass jar.
Two separate rooms were used; one for interview of the individual – one at a time. When not being
interviewed the individual was instructed to go the second room where the rest of the group resided
– for the period of the experiment. Both rooms contained only the subjects of the experiment, and of
course the experimenter, and no one else was permitted into the aforementioned areas. Television,
radio and other forms of communicative devices were forbidden from these areas.
The participants were three members of a family. The first was male and 67 years of age. The
second was female and 52 years old. The third member of the family was male, and 25 years old.
Materials: * Jar of ginger granules * Watch * Sheets of paper

Case Studies : A Case Study Approach Essay
A case study is a specific instance that is frequently designed to illustrate a more general principle
(Nisbet and Watt, 1984). Hitchock and Hughes (1995) further suggest that the case study approach
is particularly valuable when the researcher has little control over evens. Case studies strives to
portray 'what it like' to be a particular situation, to catch up reality and 'thick description' (Geertz,
1973) of participants' lives experiences of, thoughts about and feelings for a situation. They involve
looking at a case or phenomenon in its real–life context, usually employing many types of data
(Robson, 2002). It is important in case studies for events and situations to be allowed to speak for
themselves, rather than to be largely interpreted, evaluated or judged by the researcher. In this
respect the case study is akin to the television documentary. Case studies can make theoretical
statements, but, like other forms of research and human sciences, these must be supported by the
evidence presented.
My proposed research approach is case study, because this kind of approach works best when I want
to investigate my research issue–perspectives about the usage of mobile devices–in depth. In other
words, a certain group of people from among all this type of students will help me most to
understand my research issue. My exploration might provide me a better understanding through

These readings give us a deeper level of understanding as to why teachers are struggling with the
profession and also provide examples to the NUT's workload reform (Blower, 2014). The reform
presents shocking and concerning statistics within the profession. Within the reform it is stated
96.5% of teachers from the survey feel the workload is having a negative impact on their family
and personal life. A further 87% revealed they knew at least one teacher who had left due to the
amount of work. As a result of these findings I am curious to investigate how workload impacts my
participant.
Inspections:
Following on from workload, teachers are under pressure due to rigorous inspections by external
companies. These external companies were introduced with the intention of improving state funded
schools (Rosenthal, 2003). In the UK John Major introduced the Office for Standards in Education

through inspections (Rosenthal, 2003). This is done by exploring school conditions,
self–evaluations (Jansees et al, 2008), and obtaining pupil perceptions whilst inspecting the pupil's
work (Ofsted, 2015). However, this external scrutiny is leaving teachers with anxiety and stress

Importance And Purpose Of Research Essay
Importance and purpose of research
Research is important to understand, increase knowledge, and get information for social life.
Social research is conducted to extend knowledge about some aspects of society like humanities,
business or any social science [asi]. Research is used to form or develop new theories in order to
understand the process behind particular event or behavior, or review the correctness of existing
theories. In addition, research is also conducted to inform decisions or action to solve everyday
issues such as evaluating the effectiveness of policy. [abr] and [brm] of the business research

process of studying and analyzing the aspects of the issue as to explore the solution to the business.
The summaries of the core objectives of research are testing existing knowledge, developing new
system or generating new knowledge, seeking solution for issues, and analyzing new problems or
investigating existing problems [br].
Quantitative and Qualitative Paradigm
[br] a research paradigm is a philosophical perspective that guides how scientific research should be
conducted. Philosophy is 'a set or system of beliefs [stemming from] the study of the fundamental
nature of knowledge, reality, and existence' (Waite and Hawker, 2009, p.685).

Introduction
Within the eight weeks of this course, we learned a lot about psychological research. This course
provided an understanding of how research is completed. This course also gave an understanding of
what methods to utilize based on that particular research that is being conducted. In this paper I will
discuss exactly what I learned about research at an introductory level as a case study. In the field of
mental health, professionals must be constantly looking for ways to help their patients (Cozby &
Bates 2015).
Ethics and Legal Issues in Research
I've learned that it's not necessarily what we find out from research but, where we gathered the
information. We should be careful with how we find out information. With all information gathered,
we must also gather participants. It is essential that those whom take on the role of scientific
researcher of psychology that the guidelines of the American Psychological Association's Ethical
Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct be followed (Cozby & Bates, 2015, p. 47).
Confidentiality and privacy is very important within research. Confidentiality is an issue when a
researcher has assured subjects that the collected data are only accessible to people with permission,
generally only the researcher (Cozby & Bates, 2015, p. 50). One major step to ensure proper
treatment is to gather informed consents. An informed consent allows all participants to understand
all parts of research might influence their active decision of

What I Have Learned About Research
What I have learned about research is that it is a process, a scientific process that psychologist
and scientist develop that includes many different approaches and that is carefully peer reviewed
and evaluated. There is what is called the Scientific Approach where scientist have an idea or
theory and based on their observation will either support the theory or the theory can be falsified
by their peers. Data also goes through a review period before it is published in a scientific journal
by scientist who have the knowledge and expertise to evaluate it.
I also learned the difference between basic and applied research where basic research focuses mostly
on things such as emotion, cognition, social behavior, personality development, learning, and
neuropsychology. Basic research will be more helpful for answering fundamental questions about the
nature of behavior. Applied research however, addresses more of a specific problem with a possible
solution. Program evaluation covers a large area of applied research. Program evaluation assesses the
social reforms and innovations that occur in government, education, the criminal justice system,
industry, health care, and mental health institutions. When discussing behavioral research it is
imperative to note the precedents that it has in many fields and the significance of the applications
to public policy.

varies. Any variable

Research Essay Introduction Examples

  • 1. English 101 Research Paper English 101 might seem like an easy course to take for some students. For other students such as myself, English 101 was one of the classes I feared and procrastinated on taking. Coming from an ESL background, English was the class I have always struggled with the most. I've always excelled in science/ mathematics courses. I prefer the correct answers to be facts and universal. Creativity is not my forte. The process of putting your thoughts down on paper in an organized manner, with correct punctuation, and citing works used, seemed like a complicated, tedious task before taking English 101 this summer. Taking a look back at my past writing assignments and drafts for each one, I can clearly see the improvement in organization. My first draft for writing assignment 1 was basically one long paragraph. I clearly remember Mr. Bogdaniec's advice on how to separate and create individual paragraphs that only contain one topic or main idea. Also with his handouts on writing an introductory paragraph and how to write the conclusion paragraph were extremely helpful in putting together my first writing assignment in this class. I followed the steps on brainstorming and then steps for creating a plot, and didn't feel overwhelmed and confused as I had anticipated. I followed Mr....show more content... Bogdaniecs teachings and instructions was punctuation, specifically commas. I was one of those people under the wrong assumption that commas were placed whenever there was a pause in a sentence or you are listing off multiple items, adjectives or verbs. Obviously I was wrong. In writing assignment 2 I had a few mistakes where I forgot to use correct punctuation. After reviewing Mr. Bogdanic remarks on assignment 2, I was able to go back and correct my punctuation mistakes and get a 105 out of 100 points for my revision. I finally understood why we use commas, and the importance of placing them in the correct location of a Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Throughout this semester in the Introduction to Academic Research course, I learned a great deal about research. We covered a wide variety of topics that encompassed topics such as methods of field research, the unknowns when conducting research (the Black Box activity), the differences that exist among fields when using the word "research", and many others. I'll begin with what I learned about myself. Throughout this course, I learned a great deal about my future interests and the characteristics I exhibit when participating in a group project. When working with Rob Geis and Martin Castro, I searched constantly and relentlessly through the CIA database to find any information relevant to our project and the argument we wished to make....show more content... I believe my research interests lie within the American South. I am fascinated by the historic and economic elements of the region that I call home. I personally believe that learning about your interests is important but the strengths, values, and limitations that you bring to the table are more important. Learning this about yourself helps to address your own weaknesses and to find individuals that balance the research group out. Throughout this course, I also learned a bit about research. My concept of research changed very little. Throughout high school and the IB program, I learned how to evaluate sources, the importance of primary sources, and other elements of research. In my senior year, I completed an original work entitled "How has the internet changed the market structure of local news with reference to the Augusta Chronicle in Augusta, Georgia?". The research paper was over 24 pages and nearly 4,000 words long. I received an A (a grade received by 10.59% of all students involved in most difficult international high school program in the world) for my Extended Essay grade from the IB Economics examiners in India. I was also asked to complete research reports in other individual courses. One of these reports included my IB History of the Americas class. In this report, I examined how accurate the media portrayal of Jefferson Davis following the Civil War reflected his personality Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. What I Have Learned Essay What I Have Learned When I think about what counts as learning to me, I think about my life. Just being able to live in this world to me is a learning experience, because I feel that my life is full of lessons and I believe that it takes lessons to learn in life. I feel that I have learned to understand learning more and to also understand the value of learning. As I get older I can comprehend subject matters more than I could ever do before. I am learning to be more serious and I find myself not taking life for granted anymore. I also feel that maturing counts as learning for me because growing up I was continuously being called immature. For me, maturing counts as learning because I find myself doing things I never thought I...show more content... I feel that I have to get rid of bad habits in order to make room for better habits that I need for everyday life. I am learning better habits everyday. Even though I did bad on my first exam I feel that counted as learning for me because now I know what it takes for me to receive a high grade on any test I take. The biggest learning experience to me so far is life itself. I feel that way because there is so much to learn in life. It takes growing up for me to learn in life. I am now beginning to understand the value of learning because a year ago I did not appreciate learning. I did not value it like I value it now. I took it for granted as if learning could just be given to me. I realize now that it has to be earned. My attitude in high school was bad because I really did not feel I was learning, so I took it for granted. In high school I felt as if the teachers were jokes and I also felt they did not care about educating me properly. I am now starting to learn the value of an education. I now look forward to learning new things everyday. I feel that I am beginning to have a passion for learning. I never thought that I would feel this way about learning because I never did appreciate it like I do now. I now actually yearn to learn; I feel that I need to learn new things. Every assignment I have done in college is teaching me something new. I think I feel this way because I am maturing and I now view learning differently than I did Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Essay about Sampling Sampling Carrying out a survey of every single potential consumer (known as population) of a firm's product would be impractical, time–consuming and costly. Businesses still, however, need to collect enough primary data to have a clear idea of the views of consumers. This can be done by taking a sample of the population. This sample group should be made up of consumers that are representative of all potential buyers of the product. There are a number of ways in which a sample can be chosen. Random Sampling This method gives each member of a group an equal chance of being chosen. In other words, the sample is selected at random, rather like picking numbers out of a hat. Today computers can...show more content... So, if the business was interested in how 'class' affected consumers' demand for a food product, it might divide the population up into different class groups, such as working class males, middle class females etc. A random sample could then be chosen from each of these groups by making sure that they were the same proportions of the sample in each category as in population as a whole. So if the population had 10 per cent upper class males, so would the sample. Quota Sampling This sampling method involves the population being segmented into a number of groups which share specific characteristics. These may be based on the age and the sex of the population. Interviewers are then given targets for the number of people out of each segment who they must interview. For example, and interviewer may be asked to interview 10 males between the ages of 18 and 25, or 15 females between the ages of 45 and 60. Once the target is reached, no more people from that group are interviewed. The advantage of this sampling method is that it can be cheaper to operate than many of the others. It is also useful where the proportions of the different groups within the population are known. However, results from quota sampling are not statistically representative of the population and are not randomly chosen. They must therefore be treated with caution. Cluster Sampling This involves Get more content on HelpWriting.net

This product is maid up of two components being the chip and GPRS receiver. The microchip is a passive device and hence contains no internal power source. The chip contains an inductor and a capacitor. The silicon chip contains the identification number plus electronic circuits to transmit information to the receiver. The inductor acts as a radio antenna and is ready to receive electrical power from the receiver. The combination of the inductor and capacitor acts as a tuner. The receiver presents an inductive field that excites the coil and charges the capacitor, which in turn energises and powers the IC. The IC then transmits the data via the coil to the receiver. The chip is encased in a biocompatible glass made from soda lime, and hermetically sealed to prevent any moisture or fluid entering the unit. This ensures that livestock is not affected physically or behaviourally by the presence of a chip in their bodies.A GPS receiver has a GPS chip that receives signals from satellites and uses those signals to get precise fix on livestock's current Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Having a clear understanding of your family background allows you to better appreciate the things that you would normally take for granted. The house, the car, and the average clothing may look better when one sees the sacrifices their family has made. They will see that their family has worked very hard just so their family can experience the better things in life. A persons roots and origin is one of the most important things to explore. During Labor Day weekend all of my family travels to South Jersey to my grandfathers' condo. We usually spend all of our time on the beach and barbequing, except on Sunday when we go to church. After all, my grandfather is a minister. One of our biggest family traditions is going back to Puerto Rico. Every year my mother and I travel back to Puerto Rico for a portion of our summer vacation. Now that I am older I travel there more often and stay there much longer. My father never joins because he doesn't like my mothers side of the father too much and he thinks that we when we speak Spanish we are all plotting against him. Of course that's not true though. My bother doesn't speak Spanish so he doesn't like to go either. I guess that tradition is one that belongs solely to my mother and I. The role of the people in family basically stayed the same for most of the generations with a little change in the later generations. • 7. Essay on Psychology Class Reflection Over the course of this class I have pieced together many things about my own life that before went unnoticed. I am now able to see things in a bit of a different light. Now that I have been introduced to the realm of psychology I understand some of the reasons for behavior around me. I have learned that there is a reason for most everything and a lot of our behaviors and mental processes can be explained through psychology. Studies have been conducted for many years to try and pinpoint the source of our behavior and it is not something that most people think about every day. (Gerrig & Zimbardo, 2009) It is a coping mechanism that probably stems from his childhood in some way. This is just one example of how I am seeing the world from a more psychological perspective. I now try and form some theory about abnormal behavior rather that just shrugging it off. While I have not really had any experience with anyone with any very serious psychological conditions I see now that there is much more than meets the eye when it comes to their behavior. There is typically some sort of explanation that can be found in psychology and I think if everyone had a basic understanding of psychology they would understand the abnormal behavior a little better. After this introduction to psychology I can now also better understand my behavior and understand the things that are affecting my life. There are certain aspects in my life that limit me from making the choices I may prefer to make. I have obligations and responsibilities that I must maintain in order to provide a decent life for my family. There is much at stake for me and I cannot always just do whatever it is that I would like to do. As a child I was raised in a house where honesty was the key. It has been instilled in my life and to this day I know the right thing to do is to be honest. My parents were very good at instilling a since of honor in me. I am still not sure how they did it but I know it affected the decisions that I made and make today. I was always Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Importance Of Qualitative Research 1. Session: Introduction to Qualitative Research in Psychology Qualitative research not only refers to the techniques used to collect and analyse certain data but also to a field of research in itself. The different philosophical positions have in turn informed the varied approaches to qualitative research. As an exploratory type of research, it seeks to gather the in–depth understanding of the behaviour of a sample group. The personal opinion, values and experiences of them. It affords the opportunity to observe the participants behaviour as well as allowing the researcher to delve into the participants beliefs and really probe to obtain a greater detailed understanding of the issue. Qualitative research techniques are flexible and normally conducted in naturalistic settings using semi structured data collection methods as this accommodates the deviation to obtain that greater depth of answer. There are different types of analysis used for example, Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis, grounded theory, narrative, thematic and pattern based discourse analysis. Unlike quantitative research that use numbers as data and statistics, qualitative methods rely on words and meaning. It seeks to understand the problem rather than quantifying it placing more emphasis on subjectivity rather than objectivity. Qualitative methods tend to use smaller sample sizes due to the personal form of research putting the persons perspective at the centre of the work. • 9. Introduction to Psychology Essay examples Introduction to Psychology The concern about life is a main human characteristic. No matter if his concern is concentrated in himself or in persons or things that surround him and constitute his environment, everybody wants to know why people, himself included, behave the way they behave. Everybody, also, wants to improve his behavior, so as to live in harmony with himself and the society. The Greek word Psychology, is a word consisted of the words ψυχή–soul and λόγος–utterance, talk. So, generally, psychology is the science that examines the soul. But , since the psychologists work on the problems of the personal, family, school, professional and social life, we could say, more...show more content... The heartbeats, the movements of our head are behavior. The way we eat, the way we drink, the way we walk, we talk, are behavior. The construction of a bridge, the composition of a song are behavior. The fantasies of a child, the dreams of a adolescent, the illusions of an alcoholic are behavior. Although we are all familiar with human behavior, a little do we understand or we can explain about it. Since our infancy we learn about behavior through the experiences and the knowledge that we get by observing other people or having relations with them. Living in society leads us to watch and try to explain the way people behave. But that is not always easy. Sometimes we cannot understand even ourselves. Psychology comes to give answers to all this uncertainty. Therefore, according to modern psychology, the term behavior means all the conscious, unconscious, verbal, mental and kinetic expressions of ourselves. Psychology uses statistic researches so as to distinguish the normal behavior from the abnormal one. Such a thing is very difficult because every society has its own behavior standards, and, consequently, an act that is normal according to one society, may be abnormal according to another. For example, polygamy is not permitted in Europe, but it is permitted in certain societies in Africa. So, the judgement of a behavior must bear in mind the social environment in which it takes place . Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Hypothesis and Research Question Essay example Research questions are formulated in a study to inquire about variables, both independent and dependent variables, and the relationship between them. Research questions are categorized into two, that is, qualitative and quantitative research questions. Qualitative questions are used in qualitative research like case studies, surveys and action research where the approach is non–numerical and analyses special phenomena that occur in nature. Quantitative research on the other hand is more of a systematic approach with measurable numerical quantities that go through analysis to prove a hypothesis. Finally, the research hypothesis is either approved or disapproved with regards to the results of the analysis (Laureate Online Education B.V....show more content... It must be logical, and provide a concrete base for any differences between the variables. It must also be simple and clear. A hypothesis can state the following: there exists a positive relationship between employee performance and flexible working hours. Whereas a research question could generally be: do flexible working hours affect workers productivity? You can clearly see that the hypothesis states clearly and it is more specific in its prediction unlike the research question (eNotes.com, Inc 2011). Hypothesis is typically used in quantitative research only. Moreover, when a question poses an inquiry on the relationship between two variables, a hypothesis is a statement declarative in nature of the relationship between different variables (Pajares 2007). A researcher chooses whether to use a question or a hypothesis depending on the purpose of the research, its objectives, the methodology for the research and the preference of the audience to receive the research. A researcher must be able to interpret the final outcome with reference to the research questions or the hypothesis used (Pajares 2007). A research requires a minimum of two hypotheses namely a null and an alternative hypothesis. So, somebody can make a certain observation and come up with a hypothesis about how and why a phenomenon occurs the way it is. Hypothesis could be Get more content on HelpWriting.net

General speaking, quantitative research is thought to be objective, however qualitative research often involves a subjective element. There are differences designs in qualitative research in comparison to quantitative research. Qualitative research involves words, pictures, or objects; Quantitative involves data in the form of numbers and statistics. Qualitative research is conducted in a natural setting and attempts to understand a human problem by developing a holistic narrative and reporting detailed views of informants about the culture of a problem. It forms a report with pictures and words. One of the most important distinctions that sets qualitative research apart from more traditional types of research is that qualitative research is holistic in that researchers study phenomena in their entirety rather than narrowing the focus to specific defined variables" (p. 93). Similarly, Cresswell (1984) indicated that qualitative research "is defined as an inquiry process of understanding a social or human problem, based on building a holistic picture, formed with words, reporting detailed views of informants, and conducted in a natural setting" (p. 2). Cresswell's definition clearly delineates the major characteristics of qualitative research. Pg. 50 (Smith & Davis, 2010). Pg. 51 (Smith & Davis, 2010). "How do researchers evaluate trustworthiness?" Guba and Lincoln (1994) proposed that trustworthiness could be judged by the following criteria: conformability, dependability, credibility, and transferability. It will be performed using a method similar to the one used by Jenness in his experiment. This will in effect test the reproducibility and validity of the Jenness experiment. There are no contentious or controversial issues surrounding this experiment and its method, and it is certainly within the law i.e. there are no deceptions or misleading intentions toward the participant; it is fair. Hypothesis The influence of group pressure will affect individuals' estimates of the number of ginger granules in a glass jar. The estimate of the individual will change after a group decision to lie closer to the figure of the group. Method The IV was the group or individual, and the DV was the number of ginger granules in the glass jar. Two separate rooms were used; one for interview of the individual – one at a time. When not being interviewed the individual was instructed to go the second room where the rest of the group resided – for the period of the experiment. Both rooms contained only the subjects of the experiment, and of course the experimenter, and no one else was permitted into the aforementioned areas. Television, radio and other forms of communicative devices were forbidden from these areas. The participants were three members of a family. The first was male and 67 years of age. The second was female and 52 years old. The third member of the family was male, and 25 years old. Materials: * Jar of ginger granules * Watch * Sheets of paper Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Case Studies : A Case Study Approach Essay A case study is a specific instance that is frequently designed to illustrate a more general principle (Nisbet and Watt, 1984). Hitchock and Hughes (1995) further suggest that the case study approach is particularly valuable when the researcher has little control over evens. Case studies strives to portray 'what it like' to be a particular situation, to catch up reality and 'thick description' (Geertz, 1973) of participants' lives experiences of, thoughts about and feelings for a situation. They involve looking at a case or phenomenon in its real–life context, usually employing many types of data (Robson, 2002). It is important in case studies for events and situations to be allowed to speak for themselves, rather than to be largely interpreted, evaluated or judged by the researcher. In this respect the case study is akin to the television documentary. Case studies can make theoretical statements, but, like other forms of research and human sciences, these must be supported by the evidence presented. My proposed research approach is case study, because this kind of approach works best when I want to investigate my research issue–perspectives about the usage of mobile devices–in depth. In other words, a certain group of people from among all this type of students will help me most to understand my research issue. My exploration might provide me a better understanding through analysis and comparison on this certain issue. Methodology The perspectives and thoughts are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. I have learned many things throughout the course of the term, including such things as: how to write an essay and how to improve on essays that I have already written, how to locate and composite better research through the use of numerous resources found at the campus library, the internet, and the "Common Sense" textbook, how to cite research, examples, and quotations properly within the contents of my research paper as well as document it accurately according to MLA standards. Through the exploration of the "Subjects and Strategies" textbook, I have learned nine different methods used when writing an effective essay and how the different writing styles affect the overall theme and tone of the essay when used properly. This past...show more content... This allowed me to write more extensively on the topic I had chosen which in turn helped expand the size of my research paper. I received a B on my final draft; the first passing grade I have ever received on a research paper. I am very satisfied with my grade. When it came to the essays writing became a little trickier because I had to understand what it was I needed to write about and the style in which I need to write it in. There are nine essay writing methods which I learned while attending this course: exemplification, compare/contrast, cause and effect, proposal, narration, process, division/classification, definition, and argument. The only problems I encountered when trying to write the essays that were assigned to me by the instructor was finding suitable subject matter to write about. Once I found my topics for my essay, everything else became easier. I would first produce a rough draft and then the students, the instructor, and myself would go over them in class and decided if what I was writing was in its best form. Most of my rough drafts needed improvement, but if it didn't it wouldn't be a rough draft, so it was understood. My final drafts were very satisfying for me as well as the grades I received on them. For my exemplification essay I chose to write about the reasons why condoms Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Introduction: The chosen research topic for this study is an exploration into some issues teachers face in their profession. This research project will be a pilot study. Pilot studies are essential to larger research projects as they can identify any problems that may arise when conducting larger scale project (Hussan et al,. 2006). I have chosen this research question because I aspire to become a teacher after graduating therefore curious about what the job entails. In July 2016 the Times Educational Supplement (Ward, 2016) reported recruitment and retention is deteriorating. This captured my attention because I was under the impression teaching was a popular and well–respected profession. The article insinuates the deterioration in...show more content... These readings give us a deeper level of understanding as to why teachers are struggling with the profession and also provide examples to the NUT's workload reform (Blower, 2014). The reform presents shocking and concerning statistics within the profession. Within the reform it is stated 96.5% of teachers from the survey feel the workload is having a negative impact on their family and personal life. A further 87% revealed they knew at least one teacher who had left due to the amount of work. As a result of these findings I am curious to investigate how workload impacts my participant. Inspections: Following on from workload, teachers are under pressure due to rigorous inspections by external companies. These external companies were introduced with the intention of improving state funded schools (Rosenthal, 2003). In the UK John Major introduced the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) to carry out these inspections (Berry, 2016). The main aim of Ofsted is to improve schools through inspections (Rosenthal, 2003). This is done by exploring school conditions, self–evaluations (Jansees et al, 2008), and obtaining pupil perceptions whilst inspecting the pupil's work (Ofsted, 2015). However, this external scrutiny is leaving teachers with anxiety and stress (Hall and Noyes, 2009). These types of emotions could hinder a teacher's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Importance And Purpose Of Research Essay Importance and purpose of research Research is important to understand, increase knowledge, and get information for social life. Social research is conducted to extend knowledge about some aspects of society like humanities, business or any social science [asi]. Research is used to form or develop new theories in order to understand the process behind particular event or behavior, or review the correctness of existing theories. In addition, research is also conducted to inform decisions or action to solve everyday issues such as evaluating the effectiveness of policy. [abr] and [brm] of the business research emphasis on the importance of research as getting problem–solving information. Research is the process of studying and analyzing the aspects of the issue as to explore the solution to the business. The summaries of the core objectives of research are testing existing knowledge, developing new system or generating new knowledge, seeking solution for issues, and analyzing new problems or investigating existing problems [br]. Quantitative and Qualitative Paradigm [br] a research paradigm is a philosophical perspective that guides how scientific research should be conducted. Philosophy is 'a set or system of beliefs [stemming from] the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence' (Waite and Hawker, 2009, p.685). • 17. Introduction Within the eight weeks of this course, we learned a lot about psychological research. This course provided an understanding of how research is completed. This course also gave an understanding of what methods to utilize based on that particular research that is being conducted. In this paper I will discuss exactly what I learned about research at an introductory level as a case study. In the field of mental health, professionals must be constantly looking for ways to help their patients (Cozby & Bates 2015). Ethics and Legal Issues in Research I've learned that it's not necessarily what we find out from research but, where we gathered the information. We should be careful with how we find out information. With all information gathered, we must also gather participants. It is essential that those whom take on the role of scientific researcher of psychology that the guidelines of the American Psychological Association's Ethical Principles of Psychologists and Code of Conduct be followed (Cozby & Bates, 2015, p. 47). Confidentiality and privacy is very important within research. Confidentiality is an issue when a researcher has assured subjects that the collected data are only accessible to people with permission, generally only the researcher (Cozby & Bates, 2015, p. 50). One major step to ensure proper treatment is to gather informed consents. An informed consent allows all participants to understand all parts of research might influence their active decision of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. What I Have Learned About Research What I have learned about research is that it is a process, a scientific process that psychologist and scientist develop that includes many different approaches and that is carefully peer reviewed and evaluated. There is what is called the Scientific Approach where scientist have an idea or theory and based on their observation will either support the theory or the theory can be falsified by their peers. Data also goes through a review period before it is published in a scientific journal by scientist who have the knowledge and expertise to evaluate it. I also learned the difference between basic and applied research where basic research focuses mostly on things such as emotion, cognition, social behavior, personality development, learning, and neuropsychology. Basic research will be more helpful for answering fundamental questions about the nature of behavior. Applied research however, addresses more of a specific problem with a possible solution. Program evaluation covers a large area of applied research. Program evaluation assesses the social reforms and innovations that occur in government, education, the criminal justice system, industry, health care, and mental health institutions. When discussing behavioral research it is imperative to note the precedents that it has in many fields and the significance of the applications to public policy. A variable is referred to as any event, situation, behavior, or individual characteristic that changes or varies. Any variable Get more content on HelpWriting.net
