VADODARA CITY-OVERVIEW
Vadodara, one of India’s most cosmopolitan cities, is located to south east of
Ahmedabad, on the banks of river Vishwamitri. It is also referred to as
“Sanskari Nagari” (City of Culture) due to its rich cultural traditions and the
third largest city in Gujarat. The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor [DMIC]
passes through Vadodara, making it a key destination for
industries/business. Vadodara has proximity to key industrial centers of
Gujarat like Ahmedabad (Via Mahatma Gandhi Expressway-I), Bharuch and
Surat. The City will soon have WiFi hotspots in most areas.
CONNECTIVITY
By Air
Vadodara Domestic Airport has daily direct flights to Mumbai and Delhi. It
has 675,084 passenger arrivals in 2012-13 with a monthly average of
56,257 passengers which is higher than city like Udaipur and Bhopal.
5,60,965 passenger arrivals has been recorded upto January, 2014. The
Proposed Integrated New Terminal will be building with the cost of 115 Cr.
By Surface
Airport like International Standard Bus Terminal is inaugurated by Shri
Narendra Modi in February, 2014. It will transact 1200 buses per day and
around 1 lakh passengers daily. Vadodara-Ahmedabad Expressway is to be
extended to Surat and Mumbai.
Vadodara is very well connected through train to all major cities of india.
High Speed Train is also proposed in Mumbai-Ahmedabad.
INDUSTRIAL
Vadodara district has 13 industrial estates, 3 Operational & 3 Proposed
Special Economic Zones and 4 Industrial Park. Further, the industrial hub
like Halol-Savli and Bharuch are close to Vadodara and hence the city is
growing rapidly.
3. PROPOSED INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
Proximity to two of the biggest commercial cities of Gujarat i.e.
Ahmedabad & Surat and industrial hubs like Bharuch-Ankleshwar,
Halol-Savli are the key economy drivers for the city.
DMIC given node for envisages investment of more than $2.5 billion
and would create more than 84000 new employment
An Investment of INR 19 billion (USD 452 million) is proposed under
Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) for
infrastructure project in the city.
Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) is proposed
Vadodara domestic airport is proposed to be developed as an “Aircraft
Maintenance Hub” for western part of India
