3. What is an Individual Learning Plan
(ILP)?
• A tool that enables the learner to state their learning goals
(commitment), document strengths & weaknesses, set targets
to achieve their goals(s) & reflect on progress.
• The learners' learning coach or tutor(s) can also set targets &
record outcomes of progress review conversations.
• An ILP IS a communication method between learners and
teaching and support staff
• An ILP IS NOT a course planner or assessment tracking device

Independent of teaching role Knows the student well, in a
– students can be more good position to offer support
honest and advice.
6. How ILP’s are maintained
Two choices – option selected by each
programme area
• Paper-based using a MS Word template to
record professional conversations between
learner and ILP tutor
• Online using a Moodle-based ILP plug-in,
learner supported to maintain their own ILP
with input/reviews from teaching and support
staff
7. How was the Moodle ILP selected?

• General issues with staff perception of ILP’s
• Student perceptions
• Responsibilities/resourcing – a variety of models
being adopted
• Reporting on “active ILP’s”
• Expectations of communication/change notification
• Integrating data from other areas of Moodle & other
systems
