4. MEANING OF GLOBAL
WARMING
Global Warming is the gradual heating of the Earth’s troposphere
It is the warming of the earth through carbon dioxide (CO2) being
pumped into the atmosphere
And the increase of Earth's average surface temperature due to effect
of greenhouse gases and for CFC
5. PROOF OF GLOBAL WARMING
Scientists world-wide are sharing their observations measurements
from around the world record 1 degree Fahrenheit increase in
temperature
Science magazine published every year evidence that Earth is taking
in more energy from the sun than it is emitting due to the greenhouse
effect
Climate change is the unpredictable adjustment from one climate
condition to another
6. REASON
Greenhouse gases are emissions that rise into the atmosphere and
trap the sun’s energy keeping heat from escaping
Burning fuels such as coals natural gas and oil that produces green
house gases in excessive amounts
Deforestation is another reason that carbon dioxide is increasing and
so as global warming
The U.S.A emits about 6.4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gases
annually, 25% of the world’s total
7. Human activity is adding more gases to the naturally occurring layer of
greenhouse gases. This huge density can not let so much heat return to space
and so the temperature of the earth gradually increases……
GLOBAL WARMING!
What are greenhouse gases?
Name of gas Contribution Source(s)
Carbon dioxide
(CO2)
50% From burning coal and oil, and the removal of vegetation
Chlorofluorocarbons
(CFCs)
20% From air conditioners, refrigerators and aerosols
Methane
(CH4)
16% From rice growing, animal waste, swamps and landfills
Ozone
(O3)
8% From air pollution
Nitrous oxide
(N2O)
6% From fertilizers and burning of coal and oil
9. PRESENT PERIL
The global warming rate in the last 25 years has risen to 3.6 degrees
F per century, which tends to confirm the predictions of temperature
increases
Recent extreme weather and natural events have tested companies
business increased their level of understanding of the timeframes of
the physical risks they associate with climate change
The loss of polar ice will have a profound effect on nature in
particular animal habitats
12. EFFECTS ON BANGLADESH
Reduction of man’s ability to grow food
Destruction of damage of wildlife
Rise of sea levels
Flooding of coastal area and farmland
Probability of submerging of the Southern part of our country
13. FUTURE RISKS
Scientists say that the barrier insulating the continental ice caps is melting
As the ice melts, big chunks of glaciers will break off and become like ice
cubes in a big glass of water The ice chunks known as icebergs will create
mass in the ocean
Coral reef bleaching is caused by various anthropogenic and natural
variations in the reef environment including sea temperature
Global warming causes the polar ice sheets melt It increases the sea-level. It
will possibly rise 18 cm by 2030 and 58 cm by 2090
16. SOME PLACE WILL REMAIN DROUGHT SO
THAT FAMINE WILL INCREASE…
17. WHAT TO DO ABOUT GLOBAL
WARMING
We can reduce carbon dioxide by following those two step-
Locally: recycle, plant trees, use renewable energy such as solar
or wind power, buy fuel-smart cars
Governmentally: Kyoto Protocol- a document uniting the world
to prevent Global warming but Unfortunately the USA has not yet
ratified it
18. PREVENTION
Burn less fossil fuel by going in for fuel-efficient small cars, or even
better, using public transport
Use energy-efficient light bulbs and heating devices
Reduce energy consumption by switching off appliances when not
needed
Minimize the use of timber-based products such as paper, and fossil-
based products such as plastic
Recycle paper and plastic products
20. Small changes really add up
Replace your old refrigerator
with a new Energy Star:
Annual savings:
$90; 700 pounds CO2
Set your thermostat down a few
degrees in the winter
Annual savings:
$135; 1400 pounds CO2
Wash clothes in cold water only
Annual savings:
$70; 500 pounds CO2
Drive Just 10 fewer miles per week
Annual savings:
$80; 520 pounds CO2
Reduce your garbage by 10%
through greater recycling or reduced
packaging
Annual savings:
1200 pounds CO2
21. Our take- home message…
This is our world so each of us must take
steps to protect our Earth's climate
22. CONCLUSION
Global warming is affecting plants, animals, humans and the earth
We need to learn how to conserve our use of fossil fuels to minimize
carbon dioxide production
By doing this it will help to slow down the effects of global warming
