Learning
• Learning is a relative permanent change in behavior or mental state
based on experience.
• Learning may occur consciously or unconsciously.
DEFINITION OF TERMS :
 STIMULUS – it is a external and internal change which generate
the response of the body.
 RESPONSE – reaction shown by the body .
TYPES OF LEARNING
 Non-associative Learning – is learning that doesn’t require linking or
associating stimuli together. Ex: Habituation, sensitization.
Associative Learning – is the process by which an association
between two stimuli or a behavior and a stimulus is learned. Ex:
Classical learning, Operant Learning.
NON-ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING
Habituation :
 it is when repeated exposure to a stimulus decreases an
organism’s responsiveness to the stimulus.
NON-ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING
Sensitization:
 It is learning that occurs when stimulus is
repeated,and each time your response to it increases as
it goes on and on.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
CONDITIONED – learned
UNCONDITIONED - unlearned
ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING
 Classical Conditionings:
 It is a learning process in which an innate response to a potent
stimulus comes to be elicited in response to a previously neutral
stimulus; this is achieved by repeated pairings of the neutral
stimulus with the potent stimulus.
ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING:
Operant Conditioning:
 it is a learning process in which behavior is sensitive to, or controlled
by it’s consequences.
 it is a type of learning in which behavior is strengthened if followed
by reinforcement or diminished if followed by punishment.
Nature and characteristics of learning
1. Learning is the change in behaviour.
2. Learning is a continuous life long process
3. Learning is a universal process.
4. Learning is purposive and goal directed.
5. Learning involves reconstruction of experience.
6. Learning is transferable from one situation to another .
7. Learning helps in the proper growth and development.
8. Learning helps in proper adjustment.
Factor influencing learning
 Learner related Factor.
 Learners physical and mental health.
 The basic potential of the learner.
 The level of aspiration and achievement motivation.
 Goal of life.
 Radiness and will power.
 Teacher Related Factor.
 Mastery over the subject matter.
 Art and skill teaching.
 Personality traits and behaviour of the teacher.
 Level of adjustment and mental health of the teacher.

  • 3. Learning • Learning is a relative permanent change in behavior or mental state based on experience. • Learning may occur consciously or unconsciously.
  • 4. DEFINITION OF TERMS :  STIMULUS – it is a external and internal change which generate the response of the body.  RESPONSE – reaction shown by the body .
  • 5. TYPES OF LEARNING  Non-associative Learning – is learning that doesn’t require linking or associating stimuli together. Ex: Habituation, sensitization. Associative Learning – is the process by which an association between two stimuli or a behavior and a stimulus is learned. Ex: Classical learning, Operant Learning.
  • 6. NON-ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING Habituation :  it is when repeated exposure to a stimulus decreases an organism’s responsiveness to the stimulus.
  • 7. NON-ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING Sensitization:  It is learning that occurs when stimulus is repeated,and each time your response to it increases as it goes on and on.
  • 8. DEFINITION OF TERMS CONDITIONED – learned UNCONDITIONED - unlearned
  • 9. ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING  Classical Conditionings:  It is a learning process in which an innate response to a potent stimulus comes to be elicited in response to a previously neutral stimulus; this is achieved by repeated pairings of the neutral stimulus with the potent stimulus.
  • 10. ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING: Operant Conditioning:  it is a learning process in which behavior is sensitive to, or controlled by it’s consequences.  it is a type of learning in which behavior is strengthened if followed by reinforcement or diminished if followed by punishment.

Learning is purposive and goal directed. 5. Learning involves reconstruction of experience. 6. Learning is transferable from one situation to another . 7.
