COMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE 
TEACHING (COMUNICATIVE 
APPROACH).
WHAT IS THE COMUNICATIVE APPROACH? 
It is an approach to the teaching of second and foreign 
languages, emphasizes interaction as both the means and 
the ultimate goal of learning a language. 
It emphasizes interaction and problem solving as both the 
means and the ultimate goal of learning English - or any 
language.
CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE 
TEACHING 
1. Language teaching is based on a view of language as communication. 
2. It is essential that learners be engaged in doing things with language. 
3.An emphasis on learning to communicate through interaction in the 
target language. 
4. The introduction of authentic texts into the learning situation.
CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES USED IN COMMUNICATIVE 
LANGUAGE TEACHING 
•Role-play . Pair-work 
•Interviews . Surveys 
• Information gap 
•Games 
•Language exchanges
MATERIALS USED IN THE COMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE 
TEACHING 
-Text-based materials; like textbooks They will typically contain visual 
cues, pictures and sentence. 
-Task-based material consists of exercise handbooks, cue cards, activity 
cards, pair-communication practice materials and student-interaction 
practice booklets. 
-Realia: means using authentic material, for example newspaper 
articles,photos, maps, symbols, and many more.
ROLE OF THE TEACHER AND OF THE STUDENT 
.
CONCLUSIONS 
. The most obvious advantage in communicative language teaching is 
that of the increase of fluency in the target language. 
. This enables the learners to be more confident when interacting with 
other people and they also enjoy talking more.

Comunicative language teaching (comunicative approach)

  • 1. COMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING (COMUNICATIVE APPROACH).
  • 2. WHAT IS THE COMUNICATIVE APPROACH? It is an approach to the teaching of second and foreign languages, emphasizes interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning a language. It emphasizes interaction and problem solving as both the means and the ultimate goal of learning English - or any language.
  • 3. CHARACTERISTICS OF COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING 1. Language teaching is based on a view of language as communication. 2. It is essential that learners be engaged in doing things with language. 3.An emphasis on learning to communicate through interaction in the target language. 4. The introduction of authentic texts into the learning situation.
  • 4. CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES USED IN COMMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING •Role-play . Pair-work •Interviews . Surveys • Information gap •Games •Language exchanges
  • 5. MATERIALS USED IN THE COMUNICATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHING -Text-based materials; like textbooks They will typically contain visual cues, pictures and sentence. -Task-based material consists of exercise handbooks, cue cards, activity cards, pair-communication practice materials and student-interaction practice booklets. -Realia: means using authentic material, for example newspaper articles,photos, maps, symbols, and many more.
  • 6. ROLE OF THE TEACHER AND OF THE STUDENT .
  • 7. CONCLUSIONS . The most obvious advantage in communicative language teaching is that of the increase of fluency in the target language. . This enables the learners to be more confident when interacting with other people and they also enjoy talking more.
