1 General Information
The Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter is designed for testing Siemens 7SA513 distance protection relays
by using the OMICRON Test Universe 2.11 software. The converter provides all necessary data for
testing the distance protection functions (see section 2 ) of the 7SA513 relays. The converter is tested
with the following relay:
• 7SA513 V3.2
• MLFB: 7SA51315CA230CH1
Note: This converter is tested with the relay described above. It will work with 7SA513 relay series. It may
work with similar relays, too.
2 Quick Start Information
To work with the Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter:
1. Start a new OMICRON Control Center (OCC) document or open an existing OCC document.
2. Insert a new test object or open the existing test object.
3. On the File menu, click Import.
4. Browse to the 7SA513.xrio file.
5. Click Open.
6. Enter all necessary settings in the Customer Input section (see section 8.1 ).
7. Insert +inf (infinity) to disable settings/functions, if necessary.
8. Click OK.

3 Using the Converter
The Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter can be used as a stand-alone converter or in association with a
relay specific test template, for example with the OMICRON Distance template for the 7SA513 relay.
In any way the converter is used, follow the quick start instructions and create your test by using
LinkToXRIO or start using the relay specific test template (for more information, see the test template
documentation).
See sections 8.1 - 8.4 for more information about using the XRIO converter with the OMICRON
Distance test module.
4 Required Software Version
To use this converter, you must have a valid license for the OMICRON Test Universe 2.11 SR1 software.
5 Functional Range
The Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter implements the following functions:
• 21 Distance (quadrilateral)
• 50, 50N, 51, 51N BUOC
• 79 Autoreclosure

For some of the functions listed above use the RIO interface of the Test Universe software. Consequently,
the test modules are configured automatically without using LinkToXRIO.
The following functions are using the RIO interface:
• 21 Distance (quadrilateral)
• 21 Distance starting (Overcurrent ''Always ON '' , Impedance , and V/I/Phi Starting)
• 50/51 BUOC
For testing the other functions, you must use LinkToXRIO.

6 Not Supported Functions
The following functions are currently not supported:
• 68 Power Swing Detection
• Teleprotection Interface (PUTT/POTT)
• Weak infeed protection
• Ground Fault Detection in Non-Grounded Systems
• High-Resistance Ground Fault Protection in Solidly Ground Systems
• 79 Auto-reclosure function
• 25 Synchronism and Voltage Check
• Overcurrent protection (DTL/IDMTL)
• Overvoltage protection
• 50 Breaker failure protection.
7 OMICRON Test Strategy
The OMICRON test strategy is described in the OMICRON Protection Test Template (PTT) Distance
documentation. For detailed information, see the PTT Distance documentation.
8 Converter Structure
The converter is divided into two sections: the 7SA513 section and the RIO section. Both sections consist
of several function blocks. The converter comes up in the standard view; the RIOplus section and the
template controller section can only be seen in the advanced view.
8.1 7SA513 Section
The Customer Input section includes parameters which can be changed by the user. All relay
parameters are included in this section and can be set to the actual relay values.
8.1.1 Relay Parameter Section Block
In this block, setting parameters are included. The parameters are grouped and named as in the Siemens
DIGSI software. Each parameter in this block can be identified by a Foreign ID, which is identical to the
parameter ID in DIGSI.

8.1.1.1 Additional Information
This block has been added for relay specific parameters such as tolerances or angles of directional
elements which cannot be set by the user, because they are constant values. All values set in this block
can be found in the chapter "Technical Data" of the relay's documentation. Typically, these blocks do not
have to be changed (except the General Information and Circuit Breaker Information block), as they are
already set to the values given in the user manual of the relay.

The General Information block contains the parameters which are important for the test report, e.g.
information about the substation and the feeder. Furthermore it contains power system parameters which
are important for the test modules. These parameters are linked to the device part of the RIO section and
are available in the test report.
8.1.1.2 Helper Parameters/Template Controller (Advanced view)
The Helper Parameters block contains special values which are needed for some tests, especially for
tests using LinkToXRIO. These are mainly calculated values which cannot be calculated by using
LinkToXRIO and therefore have to be stored in this section. Other values needed for customer designed
tests can be stored in this block.

8.1.2 RIOPlus (Advanced view)
The RIOplus block contains the interface, which provides the link between the XRIO converter and all test
modules which have no access to RIO functions. All tests using basic test modules like Ramping or State
Sequencer have to be linked to the parameters in the RIOplus section of the converter.
8.1.2.1 NamePlate
The NamePlate block contains all necessary information to identify the protection device to be tested. This
block contains the relay vendor, serial number, model, the relay location and a description.
8.1.2.2 PowerSystemParameters
The number of phases, phase rotation and the nominal frequency are stored in this block.
8.1.2.3 Distance Protection
This block contains all necessary data to test the distance protection quadrilateral zones. The nominal
values and the CT / VT settings used by the distance protection functions can be found here. All zones of
the distance quadrilateral protection function in the relay are modeled as subblocks of the
ImpedanceZoneElements blocks. Each zone subblock stores information about:
• the grounding factors in the GroundingFactor subblock
• the impedances in the BorderElements and GenericShape subblocks
• the reach and Phi values and tolerances in the Reach subblock
• the operating and reset delay time values and tolerances in the OperateDelayTime and
ResetDelayTime subblocks
All necessary data for testing the overcurrent, impedance, and V/I-Phi starting signals are stored in the
StartingElements subblock.
8.1.2.4 Overcurrent Protection Phase-Phase
This block contains all necessary data to test the phase-phase emergency overcurrent protection. The
nominal values and the CT/VT settings used by this protection function can be found here. All stages of
the phase-phase emergency overcurrent protection function in the relay are modeled as subblocks of the
overcurrent protection phase-phase block. Each stage subblock stores information about the directional
element, pickup value, operating time, pickup-drop off ratio and the curve type of the modeled overcurrent
stage.
8.1.2.5 Overcurrent Protection Phase-Ground
This block contains all necessary data to test the phase-ground emergency overcurrent protection. The
nominal values and the CT/VT settings used by this protection function can be found here. All stages of
the phase-ground emergency overcurrent protection function in the relay are modeled as subblocks of the
OverCurrentProtection Phase – Ground block. Each stage subblock stores information about the
directional element, pickup value, operating time, pickup-drop off ratio and the curve type of the modeled
overcurrent stage.

8.1.2.6 SwitchOnToFault Function
This block contains all necessary data to test the switch on to fault protection. The nominal values and the
CT/VT settings used by this protection function can be found here. The main data parameters of the
switch on to fault are:
• MinOperateTime
• MaxOperateTime
• OperateDelayTime
• ResetDelayTime
• CurrentDetectorValue
These main data parameters are stored in the SwitchOnToFaultElement1 of the
SwitchOnToFaultElements block. The voltage and current values of the pre-fault and post-fault states are
stored in the TestCondition block.
8.1.2.7 Circuit Breaker
The circuit breaker block contains all necessary data for testing protection functions together with the
circuit breaker. The modeled parameters are 52abPercentage, CloseTime, Forced3PoleOperatingTime,
SinglePoleTripping, TripTime, TripCommandDuration and ClosedBreakerMinCurrentThreshold.
8.2 RIO
The RIO section of the converter contains all specialized RIO functions which are needed to use the more
specialized test modules (like Advanced Distance or Overcurrent) provided by the OMICRON Test
Universe software.
Warning: Do not change any values in this section. The values have been set using the relay settings of
the Customer Input section.
Note: Do not activate the former test object view in the advanced mode of the XRIO test object. Changing
parameters in this view will disable formulas in the RIO section.
8.2.1 Distance
This RIO distance function provides the necessary values for testing the distance protection functions of
the 7SA513 relay with the Advanced Distance test module. The protection functions supported by this RIO
function include:
• 21 Distance quadrilateral
The following RIO function for testing these distance protection functions is available:
• Distance
8.2.2 DMT/IDMT Overcurrent
This RIO overcurrent function provides the necessary values for testing the emergency overcurrent
protection functions of the 7SA513 relay with the Overcurrent test module. The protection functions
supported by this RIO function include:
• DMT / IDMT Phase/Ground overcurrent
The following RIO function for testing these overcurrent protection functions is available:
• Overcurrent
The three stages with the smallest pickup values are combined and the resulting characteristic curve is
shown in the RIO overcurrent function block.

8.2.3 V/I-Phi Starting L-N
This RIO distance starting function provides the necessary values for testing the distance starting
functions of the 7SA6x relay with the VI Starting test module. The starting functions supported by this RIO
function include:
• 21 Distance Starting V/I-Phi LN
The following RIO function for testing these distance protection functions is available:
• V/I Starting
8.2.4 V/I-Phi Starting L-L
This RIO distance starting function provides the necessary values for testing the distance starting
functions of the 7SA6x relay with the VI Starting test module. The starting functions supported by this RIO
function include:
• 21 Distance Starting V/I-Phi LL
The following RIO function for testing these distance protection functions is available:
• V/I Starting
8.3 Activating the RIO Functions
The RIO functions have to be set to active manually in each VIPhi Starting test module if the converter is
used in the stand-alone mode. Activate the RIO function you intend to use in the local hardware
configuration as shown in figure 5.

8.4 Specific Features
This section deals with special requirements of some of the converter's functions. Functions not listed
here have no known limitations to their functionalities.
8.4.1 Distance Protection Controlled Zone Z1L
The overreach zone Z1L, activated by multi-shot AR (2
nd
and further cycles, so-called DAR) or controlled
via binary input, is mapped in RioPlus and Rio and can be tested. At the moment no test procedure for
testing the Z1L zone is implemented in the PTT (Protection Test Template). To test the trip time and the
reach of zone Z1L implement for each test condition an Advanced Distance module in the PTT, e.g. see
the test procedure Testing Z1B.
8.5 Handling the Infinity Value
The infinity value has to be set to +inf in the 7SA513 section of the converter. It is used in the same way
as the "+*" in the DIGSI software. Consequently, the protection functions which are disabled by setting
them to infinity in DIGSI, behave the same way in the converter.

OMICRON PTL Siemens 7SA513 XRIO Converter User Manual © OMICRON electronics GmbH 3/10 1 General Information The Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter is designed for testing Siemens 7SA513 distance protection relays by using the OMICRON Test Universe 2.11 software. The converter provides all necessary data for testing the distance protection functions (see section 2 ) of the 7SA513 relays. The converter is tested with the following relay: • 7SA513 V3.2 • MLFB: 7SA51315CA230CH1 Note: This converter is tested with the relay described above. It will work with 7SA513 relay series. It may work with similar relays, too. 2 Quick Start Information To work with the Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter: 1. Start a new OMICRON Control Center (OCC) document or open an existing OCC document. 2. Insert a new test object or open the existing test object. 3. On the File menu, click Import. 4. Browse to the 7SA513.xrio file. 5. Click Open. 6. Enter all necessary settings in the Customer Input section (see section 8.1 ). 7. Insert +inf (infinity) to disable settings/functions, if necessary. 8. Click OK. 9. Figure 1: Opening and importing the Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter

OMICRON PTL Siemens 7SA513 XRIO Converter User Manual © OMICRON electronics GmbH 4/10 3 Using the Converter The Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter can be used as a stand-alone converter or in association with a relay specific test template, for example with the OMICRON Distance template for the 7SA513 relay. In any way the converter is used, follow the quick start instructions and create your test by using LinkToXRIO or start using the relay specific test template (for more information, see the test template documentation). See sections 8.1 - 8.4 for more information about using the XRIO converter with the OMICRON Distance test module. 4 Required Software Version To use this converter, you must have a valid license for the OMICRON Test Universe 2.11 SR1 software. 5 Functional Range The Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter implements the following functions: • 21 Distance (quadrilateral) • 50, 50N, 51, 51N BUOC • 79 Autoreclosure Figure 2: Functional range of the Siemens 7SA513 XRIO converter For some of the functions listed above use the RIO interface of the Test Universe software. Consequently, the test modules are configured automatically without using LinkToXRIO. The following functions are using the RIO interface: • 21 Distance (quadrilateral) • 21 Distance starting (Overcurrent ''Always ON '' , Impedance , and V/I/Phi Starting) • 50/51 BUOC For testing the other functions, you must use LinkToXRIO.

OMICRON PTL Siemens 7SA513 XRIO Converter User Manual © OMICRON electronics GmbH 5/10 6 Not Supported Functions The following functions are currently not supported: • 68 Power Swing Detection • Teleprotection Interface (PUTT/POTT) • Weak infeed protection • Ground Fault Detection in Non-Grounded Systems • High-Resistance Ground Fault Protection in Solidly Ground Systems • 79 Auto-reclosure function • 25 Synchronism and Voltage Check • Overcurrent protection (DTL/IDMTL) • Overvoltage protection • 50 Breaker failure protection. 7 OMICRON Test Strategy The OMICRON test strategy is described in the OMICRON Protection Test Template (PTT) Distance documentation. For detailed information, see the PTT Distance documentation. 8 Converter Structure The converter is divided into two sections: the 7SA513 section and the RIO section. Both sections consist of several function blocks. The converter comes up in the standard view; the RIOplus section and the template controller section can only be seen in the advanced view. 8.1 7SA513 Section The Customer Input section includes parameters which can be changed by the user. All relay parameters are included in this section and can be set to the actual relay values. 8.1.1 Relay Parameter Section Block In this block, setting parameters are included. The parameters are grouped and named as in the Siemens DIGSI software. Each parameter in this block can be identified by a Foreign ID, which is identical to the parameter ID in DIGSI.

OMICRON PTL Siemens 7SA513 XRIO Converter User Manual © OMICRON electronics GmbH 6/10 Figure 3: Setting the parameters in the Customer Input section 8.1.1.1 Additional Information This block has been added for relay specific parameters such as tolerances or angles of directional elements which cannot be set by the user, because they are constant values. All values set in this block can be found in the chapter "Technical Data" of the relay's documentation. Typically, these blocks do not have to be changed (except the General Information and Circuit Breaker Information block), as they are already set to the values given in the user manual of the relay. Figure 4: Setting general information The General Information block contains the parameters which are important for the test report, e.g. information about the substation and the feeder. Furthermore it contains power system parameters which are important for the test modules. These parameters are linked to the device part of the RIO section and are available in the test report. 8.1.1.2 Helper Parameters/Template Controller (Advanced view) The Helper Parameters block contains special values which are needed for some tests, especially for tests using LinkToXRIO. These are mainly calculated values which cannot be calculated by using LinkToXRIO and therefore have to be stored in this section. Other values needed for customer designed tests can be stored in this block.

OMICRON PTL Siemens 7SA513 XRIO Converter User Manual © OMICRON electronics GmbH 7/10 8.1.2 RIOPlus (Advanced view) The RIOplus block contains the interface, which provides the link between the XRIO converter and all test modules which have no access to RIO functions. All tests using basic test modules like Ramping or State Sequencer have to be linked to the parameters in the RIOplus section of the converter. 8.1.2.1 NamePlate The NamePlate block contains all necessary information to identify the protection device to be tested. This block contains the relay vendor, serial number, model, the relay location and a description. 8.1.2.2 PowerSystemParameters The number of phases, phase rotation and the nominal frequency are stored in this block. 8.1.2.3 Distance Protection This block contains all necessary data to test the distance protection quadrilateral zones. The nominal values and the CT / VT settings used by the distance protection functions can be found here. All zones of the distance quadrilateral protection function in the relay are modeled as subblocks of the ImpedanceZoneElements blocks. Each zone subblock stores information about: • the grounding factors in the GroundingFactor subblock • the impedances in the BorderElements and GenericShape subblocks • the reach and Phi values and tolerances in the Reach subblock • the operating and reset delay time values and tolerances in the OperateDelayTime and ResetDelayTime subblocks All necessary data for testing the overcurrent, impedance, and V/I-Phi starting signals are stored in the StartingElements subblock. 8.1.2.4 Overcurrent Protection Phase-Phase This block contains all necessary data to test the phase-phase emergency overcurrent protection. The nominal values and the CT/VT settings used by this protection function can be found here. All stages of the phase-phase emergency overcurrent protection function in the relay are modeled as subblocks of the overcurrent protection phase-phase block. Each stage subblock stores information about the directional element, pickup value, operating time, pickup-drop off ratio and the curve type of the modeled overcurrent stage. 8.1.2.5 Overcurrent Protection Phase-Ground This block contains all necessary data to test the phase-ground emergency overcurrent protection. The nominal values and the CT/VT settings used by this protection function can be found here. All stages of the phase-ground emergency overcurrent protection function in the relay are modeled as subblocks of the OverCurrentProtection Phase – Ground block. Each stage subblock stores information about the directional element, pickup value, operating time, pickup-drop off ratio and the curve type of the modeled overcurrent stage.

OMICRON PTL Siemens 7SA513 XRIO Converter User Manual © OMICRON electronics GmbH 8/10 8.1.2.6 SwitchOnToFault Function This block contains all necessary data to test the switch on to fault protection. The nominal values and the CT/VT settings used by this protection function can be found here. The main data parameters of the switch on to fault are: • MinOperateTime • MaxOperateTime • OperateDelayTime • ResetDelayTime • CurrentDetectorValue These main data parameters are stored in the SwitchOnToFaultElement1 of the SwitchOnToFaultElements block. The voltage and current values of the pre-fault and post-fault states are stored in the TestCondition block. 8.1.2.7 Circuit Breaker The circuit breaker block contains all necessary data for testing protection functions together with the circuit breaker. The modeled parameters are 52abPercentage, CloseTime, Forced3PoleOperatingTime, SinglePoleTripping, TripTime, TripCommandDuration and ClosedBreakerMinCurrentThreshold. 8.2 RIO The RIO section of the converter contains all specialized RIO functions which are needed to use the more specialized test modules (like Advanced Distance or Overcurrent) provided by the OMICRON Test Universe software. Warning: Do not change any values in this section. The values have been set using the relay settings of the Customer Input section. Note: Do not activate the former test object view in the advanced mode of the XRIO test object. Changing parameters in this view will disable formulas in the RIO section. 8.2.1 Distance This RIO distance function provides the necessary values for testing the distance protection functions of the 7SA513 relay with the Advanced Distance test module. The protection functions supported by this RIO function include: • 21 Distance quadrilateral The following RIO function for testing these distance protection functions is available: • Distance 8.2.2 DMT/IDMT Overcurrent This RIO overcurrent function provides the necessary values for testing the emergency overcurrent protection functions of the 7SA513 relay with the Overcurrent test module. The starting functions supported by this RIO function include: • 21 Distance Starting V/I-Phi LL The following RIO function for testing these distance protection functions is available: • V/I Starting 8.3 Activating the RIO Functions The RIO functions have to be set to active manually in each VIPhi Starting test module if the converter is used in the stand-alone mode. Functions not listed here have no known limitations to their functionalities. 8.4.1 Distance Protection Controlled Zone Z1L The overreach zone Z1L, activated by multi-shot AR (2 nd and further cycles, so-called DAR) or controlled via binary input, is mapped in RioPlus and Rio and can be tested. At the moment no test procedure for testing the Z1L zone is implemented in the PTT (Protection Test Template). To test the trip time and the reach of zone Z1L implement for each test condition an Advanced Distance module in the PTT, e.g. see the test procedure Testing Z1B. 8.5 Handling the Infinity Value The infinity value has to be set to +inf in the 7SA513 section of the converter. It is used in the same way as the "+*" in the DIGSI software. Consequently, the protection functions which are disabled by setting them to infinity in DIGSI, behave the same way in the converter.
