1. Linton Heathcliff

Self :
-Is physically weak-Heathcliff despises him
“What is my share in thee puling chicken?”
“I despise him for himself and hate him for the memories he
revives!...I’m bitterly dissapointed in the whey-faced
whining wretch”
-Lost his mother +uncle’s care and love
-Thinks of himself better deserving
-Is used as a pawn for Heathcliff’s revenge, forced to marry
Cathy.
- Is in mortal dread of his father.

-Hareton:rival for Cathy’s affection
-Edgar :doppel ganger
“A pale delicate effeminate he boy, who might have
been taken for masters younger brother, so
strong was the resemblence but there was a
sickly peevishness in his aspect, that Edgar Linton
never had.”
-Cathy: Ally,united due to Heathcliff’s similar
conduct towards them after marriage

4. Environment
- Born in Gimmerton; resides for a night in the
Grange; taken away to the Heights after
Heathcliff claims custody of him
- Physically and character wise: weak- “She
comments stroking his curls, and kissing his
cheek, and offering him tea in her saucer, like
a baby. This pleased him for he was not much

agitation. He glanced fearfully towards the Heights, begging she would remain

• Environemnt:Linton is raised in Gimmerton by his mother and does not meet his
father until he is thirteen years old, when he goes to live with him after his
mother’s death. Heathcliff despises Linton, treats him contemptuously, and, by
forcing him to marry the young Catherine, uses him to cement his control over
Thrushcross Grange after Edgar Linton’s death. Linton himself dies not long after
this marriage.
