What does it mean?
 It’s a 2 hour exam at the end of the year
 You will be given some texts to read and answer questions
on.
 There are 40 marks.
 You will be asked to write 2 non-fiction pieces.
 One will be to inform or advise
 The other will be an experience you may have had
(though you can make it up through descriptive writing)
 Another 40 marks

Speaking and Listening

What do I have to do?
 3 tasks
 Controlled assessment
 Presenting – this needs to be on your own and it could
be a talk about a hobby, for instance.
 Discussing and listening – this is in a group or it could be
the whole class.
 Role playing – drama!
 15 marks for each task.

Extended reading
You will read a book, some short stories or a play.
You will complete 1 task of no more than 1600 words in
3-4 hours.

You will be writing to a brief given to you by your teacher
1200 words altogether – 30 marks

Spoken Language Study

You might write about txt spk or Facebook or Beebo
You can write about the different ways in which people
speak, making recordings if you like.
