5. Evidence of Funds to Support Yourself
for Courses More Than Nine Months long

   • Access to NZ$15,000 per year (NZ$1250
per month) to cover your costs during
    your stay in New Zealand
Evidence of Funds to Support Yourself

• Evidence of funds may be in the form of cash, travelers'
cheques, bank drafts, or a recognised credit card with
enough credit. The student must have access to this
 funds.
                           OR

• Evidence of funds through a Sponsor - A financial
undertaking can be provided by relative or a friend who is
a citizen of or resident of New Zealand. No need for
funds if you have a Sponsor.
Why NZ$15,000?
• This is the estimate issued by NZ immigration on on how much you
need to support yourself in one year.
• NZ$15,000 / 12 months = NZ$1250 per month or NZ$312.50 per
  week

How long will the money stay in the bank?

You have to maintain NZ$1250 multiplied by the number of months of your
remaining stay. In other words you can withdraw up to NZ$1250 per month.
Will you use up all of these
funds?
• Not if you work for 20 hours a week.

• At minimum wage = $13.50 x 20 = $270 per week. Net after
tax (10% bracket) = $237 per week earnings

• $15 per hour at 20 hours = $300 week. Net after tax (10%
bracket) = $261.25 per week earnings

• Immigration New Zealand estimate of living expenses per
 week is $312.50.
6. “6th Requirement”
Payment of Tuition Fees
• you must show you have sufficient funds to pay the
course fees once your student visa is approved in
 principle.

• Fees must be paid in full before the visa is released.
Work 20 hours per week
While Studying
• Because our programme leads to a New Zealand Qualification that
qualifies for points under the Skilled Migrant Category, you can work
part time for up to 20 hours per week while studying full time.

• We designed our programme to allow you to have flexibility in getting
a part time job. Classes are 2 and ½ days per week which leaves you
with 4 and ½ consecutive days for your part time work.
Working While Studying
• It will be practical to assume that you will be using the funds
from your support fund for the first one to two months of your
stay as you look for your part time job.

• Remember to apply for the 20 hour work permit on your
 student visa application!

• You should also consider the possibility of not being able to
