1. History of Film

2. 1895-1905
• This was the start of movies and this was whenThomas Edison andWilliam
Dickson started to introduce sound into movies and this was revolutionary
at this time.
• Also around this time a major movie called kiss came out which featured
John Rice and May Irwin.

3. 1895-1905
• 1895 was the introduction of Gaumont film company in France.
• Another key factor was the Lumier brothers who were the first people to
use the cinematograph and to project it.
• This was also one of the major factors in history and it was Alice Guy-Blache
being the first female director.

4. 1895-1905
• At this time the first permanent movie theatre opens in NewYork.
• Also the first cinema was created.
• The 35mm film became the standard gauge for film production.
• George Melies who was a major factor in the history of film set up europes
first film studio “Star fil company”.
• First purpose built movie was constructed.

5. 1895-1905
• Edwin S Porter started to make hit movie and was regarded as the father of
the modern narrative.
• One of the major films around this time was the movie was “A trip to the
moon” which featured the huge figure of George Melies.
• Another huge film around this time was the Great train Robbery which
starred Gilbert M Anderson.This movie was considered one of first western
movies with the first story with a proper narrative and was the first
commercially viable movie.

6. 1906-1915
• One major film during this time period was the movie “The haunted castle” which
starred George Melies.
• Also in 1906 the story of the Kelly gang becomes the first full length movie made
by CharlesTait.
• In 1910 as the movie industry was increasing a lot of business men start to invest in
the growing industry.
• Universal pictures founded two years in 1912 and they would make the first Charlie
Chaplin movies.

7. 1906-1915
• D.W. Griffiths was considered the first cinematic auteur.
• American mutoscope biograph make D.W Griffis.They were a biograph
company that were a motion picture film company.
• A major film called “Judith of Bethulia” starring Blanche Sweet.

8. 1916-1925
• Warner brothers was founded by Sam warner, Harry warner, Albert warner
and Jack LWarner.They have also made many great movies.
• Paramount pictures was founded in California by Jesse L Lasky, William
Wadsworth Hodkinson and Adolf Zukor.
• Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer is founded in the USA.They were founded by
Marcus Loew.

9. 1926-Onwards
• 20th century fox is founded in Los Angeles by Daryl F. Zanuck and Joseph M.
Schenck.This company is known for making many famous tv shows as well
as famous movies.
• Also through to the 200s there have only been the top 100 movies during
this time period.

• 1914:The Perils of Pauline:This was the first action movie.
• 1921:The Kid:The first silent movie
• 1922:Nosferatu: Another famous horror film.

12. Key people
• Lumier Brothers:They created the Cinematographe which was a hybrid of a
camera and a projector.
• Thomas Edison: Created the Kinetoscope
• William Dickson: Created the Kinetoscope.
• Charlie Chaplin: He was one of the first famous movie star who created his
own films which made him one of the famous ever in the movie industry.
• George Melies: Was one of the most famous movie directors which he was
considered one of the best at the start of the film history.
• AliceGuy-Blache: She was the first ever movie director.
• D.W Griffis: In his time he was the person who was known to have pioneered
the film industry and was also known as the starter of Hollywood.
