Who here can tell me what self-determination means?
In Swahili self-determination or kujichagulia means to define the world in your own image and interest, placing your community and your history and culture at the center of the world and social reality.
I went to an art high school in Kentucky that is similar to BAA and my art teacher encouraged me to learn computer graphics during my junior year. It was this work that earned me a full scholarship to Pratt Institute in New York City. Eventually, I earned my doctorate in Digital Media.

When I was a PhD student at Georgia Tech I developed Afrofuturism-inspired software with a graduate student at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, or RPI, which is a private research university located in upstate New York.
The software teaches students computer programming and mathematics.
At Illuminus Boston 2015 I collaborated with legendary music producer Hank Shocklee. That’s my computer-generated art in the background.
In this class, students learned how to create circuits using Electric Paint, program small computers called Touch Boards and make music. Here, students are presenting their final science projects to Hank Shocklee.
