to compite on the
Challenger Selection
Series. The defender is

● In 1851, for the celebration of the
Great Exhibition, was programmed
a regatta. The winner will win a
valuable prize. They have to round
the island of Wight. Finally, the team
of the USA won. Then, they organized
the competition.
● The bases or the rules of the cup are
in a contract called the “Deed of Gift”.

● Fernando de Magallanes was born in Sabrosa, Portugal, in
1480. He was a navigator and a explorer. He discovered
the Strait of Magallanes and he did the first
circumnavigation around the Earth.

6. Magallanes' journeyMagallanes' journey
● Magallanes thought that there was a form to reach Asia by
going to the West. Carlos I (king of Spain), accepted his
project. He set sail of Seville with 5 boats. They arrived in
Patagonia for the winter, and they lost 2 boats.
● On the 21/10/1520 he discovered the
Strait of Magallanes, and they
surrounded it, and he also discovered
the Pacific Ocean, who he named it.
7. ● Later, he arrived in Filipines, because the crew had
problems. During this expedition, they explore the islands
that compose Filipines. They had a fighting with
indigenous people, and Magallanes died here.
● Finally, Juan Sebastián Elcano finished the trip with 18
sailors and some spices. They arrived in Spain the
