Antonis Samaras became prime minister of Greece after the 2012 national elections. In December 2014, members of parliament could not select a new president, requiring new elections for both a new parliament and government. The January 25, 2015 elections saw various Greek political parties, including the parties led by incumbent prime minister Antonis Samaras and challenger Alexis Tsipras of Syriza, competing for leadership of the country and the title of prime minister.
