Persuasive Essay On Technology Addiction
The instant a person 's phone goes off, their reflex is to immediately grab it, right? This is because
they are addicted to their cell phone and it has become natural to check it when they receive a
notification; It has become an addiction. Many times, while people are eating dinner, their cell
phones lie on the table next to them, or they have them sitting in their laps. What makes this issue
even worse is the fact that restaurants also have tablets on the table with games and different features
and distract from the social benefits of family dining.Dining with one's family and friends is
supposed to be a bonding experience where one can talk, laugh, and enjoy the presence of others.

Most adults use technology just as much as teenagers. While they may not be using them
particularly for social media, it can also be an addiction for them too. When work becomes
stressful and bills are getting piled up, adults lean towards their cell phone or computer/tablet to
distract and get their minds off of the stressor. It is so addictive, it has become a natural reflex our
society does not even notice.
Technology has become the base of family/friends physical separation. As the gap between
communication and interaction expands, physical contact becomes less important.(Simons)
Physical contact is important because the more time you spend with family and friends, the
better chance you have of sharing memorable experiences(1). It is always nice to see face to face
with family and friends who you do not get to see everyday. Going out, making memories, and
enjoying time together can be done without the distractions of cell phones. Most people would
use the excuse for using cell phones to capture pictures; The newest iphone cost 14x as much as a
new polaroid camera not including the bill you pay every month for a cell phone. Others would
use the excuse of needing a cell phone to keep in touch with others or checking the time. Cell
phones are made to keep in touch, keeping the ringer on and sticking the phone in a purse or pocket

Persuasive Essay On Modern Technology
The utmost, overriding facet of our society has been placed in our hands, perched on a stand, and
then plugged into a socket: modern technology. Today, individuals without up to date technology
are christened anomalies that are late to the 'smart era' of smartphones, smartwatches, and smart
televisions. In Is Google Making Us Stupid? by Nicholas Carr, and Be a Gamer, Save the World
by Jane McGonigal, it is made comprehensible that, as a society, we have begun to intertwine
ourselves in the tangles of our electronics, which we cannot seem to relinquish. Our generation has
been advancing with technology nonstop to the point where a new gadget is practically released
daily. Recently, the latest technological fixation that has rapidly spread like wildfire is video
streaming: whether it be video–on–demand or live, it has concurrently seized and fashioned jobs, as
well as intermixed communities and individuals alike. Ever since the emergence of humans, the
demand for amusement was prevalent and constantly evolving. From watching gladiators brawl in an
arena, to attending operas and plays, to channel surfing, people have continually desired to be
entertained. Today, there is another alteration that is changing the way people absorb the content
that they want. Streaming, the most productive way to receive internet content, has skyrocketed in
our society as the internet has become a "universal medium" (Carr 573). It started with Netflix, and
then it was adapted by other platforms. More and more people have gravitated towards their phones
and computers as outlets for entertainment and news instead of their televisions, causing traditional
media to race to conform to the innovative technology (Carr 576–577) of streaming. For example,
there are presidential debates that have been live streamed, and are said to be the most popular
stream in internet history. Streaming has become a trend that has yet to lose momentum, and has
consistently stayed at the top of the consumer food chain. When it comes to watching television
shows and movies, streaming websites, such as: Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, have virtually
monopolized the market, and have exceedingly brought down cable and theater sales. The mere
thought of cable is

Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology
As time has progressed so have we and so has the technology that we create. We are at a point in
time that everyone with the monetary means has the answers to everything at the tips of the fingers.
Yet this amazing breakthrough in science and technology is tainted by the fact that people don't
know how to control it. We have become completely addicted to our cellphones, absolutely
engrossed and overtaken by the fact that we have all this access that we can't separate ourselves
from, not even enough to realize that we may be in too deep.
First, as teens we all wanted the newest things. The latest trends in fashion, the latest gadgets, and the
latest cell phones. We begged our parents to get us that new shiny iPhone when it came out or that
new Samsung phone, we wanted whatever we thought was cooler and better, and what we thought
we could not survive without. And this is mostly because of what we can do on our phones. As
Joelle Renstrom said in an interview with BU Today students have a "Fear of missing out", students
are afraid of missing text messages, not knowing their friend's latest post on Instagram, or not
knowing what happened last night on that Snapchat story. There is also the factor that students are
anxious when they don't respond immediately as Renstrom puts it "There's a term called
techno–stress to describe the frenzy"; they get nervous and worried when they receive a message
or an email and they don't immediately respond. It is the fear of being penalized for not being
attentive to your phone 24/7. On the other hand, it is the feeling of being liked and well–known
among your peers. When we post a picture or tweet something and someone likes it, retweets it,
or responds in any way that is positive it makes us feel good about ourselves therefore we look to
post more and have a more active social media presence so that we can have feeling repeatedly. It's
like being an addict with and unlimited supply.
Secondly, studies have shown that excessive cellphone use can lead to serious psychological
problems. In a recent study, it was discovered that in late 2012 more than 50% of the population
owned a smartphone and around that same time the rate pf depression and suicide in teens began to
increase.

Persuasive Essay On Technology In Schools
Technology, one of the greatest advancements of civilization, is a major factor in our world today.
The young adults and children of this generation grew up in a wired environment with iPads,
computers, mobile phones, laptops, and more. Although technology can foster a possible disconnect
of social interaction, I believe that technology should be incorporated into schools more because it is
a convenient source and enhances student learning. One of technology's greatest benefits to a
student is that it is very convenient. The World Wide Web provides students with instant access to
knowledge and information beyond what is in our everyday school textbooks. Students today find it
so much easier to just "Google it" rather than having to go through the tedious task of searching
through the many bookshelves of a library. Along with instant access to knowledge, technology
takes away the burden of having to carry around hefty books and countless amounts of papers. Teens
don't have to worry about losing worksheets or lugging around large textbooks because school work
and books can be easily accessed on various school apps that teachers and students can use.
Technology also saves students and teachers time. Students can easily complete and turn in
assignments at the click of a a button. Grading can be less time consuming for teachers because there
are various applications that can do the tedious task for you rather than rummaging through countless
papers all night long. Another

Technology has grown tremendously over the years. The word technology does not allude to any
huge innovation that you would find in motion pictures or T.V appears, however ones you find in
your everyday life. For instance, consider cell phones, the Internet, portable workstations and so
forth. These are things that are difficult to envision without in our day by day life. At the end of the

Technology is an integral part of our daily routines. A 16–year–old 11th grader in Denver says, "I am
probably on my phone 10 hours a day". One can further infer that technology has been incorporated
into everything needed to survive. We use technology in business, education, medicine, and research,
so much that one could even go so far as to say that our society has become obsessed. Although
technology provides us with crucial information we now need to thrive in the world, it also has some
controversial effects. In a recent argument, scientists (along with parents, students, and teachers) are
trying to determine whether an overreliance on technology could cause isolation, inhibit mental
growth, and/or cause depression and suicidal behavior among teens.
Scientists have been pondering the question for years and have resulted with differing views. While
some scientists believe that "there isn't enough evidence to condemn smartphones" and that there is
"very little data to suggest mobile technologies are causing anxiety or social impairments", others
are quick to blame. Those who believe the latter state that internet and smartphones provide a sense
of "inescapability" and that allowing a young person to have constant access to these platforms is
just like playing with fire. In a nationwide survey done between 2010 and 2016, the amount of
young adults who experienced at least one major depressive episode jumped by 60%. Along with
depressive issues, technology and internet have also been loosely linked to the inability to focus and
show sympathy to others' emotions.
The researchers who believe that technology and internet are often misjudged suggest that mobile
technologies can often help people, especially marginalized groups, deal with judgement, bullying,
and everyday stress. Candice Odgers, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Duke
University, went so far as to say that jumping to conclusions and degrading smartphones could
potentially lead researchers away from more notable factors. Other scientists believe that, while
internet may not be the direct cause of depression, it can inhibit one's social interaction on a
day–to–day basis. Brian Primack, director of the University of Pittsburgh's Center

Is it worth it
Living in a world of technology has its many perks, from reminding us of are upcoming events to
getting to see your new born niece or nephew who lives 5 states away. Though technology keeps us
in touch with people we might not see every day, it has its ways of hurting the relationships around
us and even the relationship we have with are self's. Pulling us to its screen ignoring the world
around. Technology is a wonderful thing but it is something that everyone needs to learn to balance.
Most people use social media, texting, and snapchat to make new friends or keep in touch with the
ones we have already made, disconnecting us from the world around. Our brain tricking us to think
that these connections are enough. Sherry Turkle a professor of "social studies of science" talks
about in her book Alone Together, the effects that technology has on us. She explains it as a
"Corporate trap, a ball and chain that keeps us tethered to the tiny screens of our cellphones, tapping
out trite messages to stay in touch". Being "always connected" diverts you from completing
important life activities, crazy to think such a tiny screen could have such a magnetizing pull, yet
you find yourself checking Facebook instead of completing your essay that is due the next day. This
issue is called Connection over load, many studies have been made on this subject, due to smart

Persuasive Essay About Technology In School
Technology in School Technology is everywhere, it is involved in almost every part of our culture. It
affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With technology being such a
fundamental part of our lives and growing each day, it only makes sense that schools incorporate
technology in the classrooms. Even though many people support the use of technology in schools,
there are those that have concerns about the effectiveness of technology and whether or not it
undermines education to solely prepare students for the workforce. Despite the concerns, technology
is being integrated with classroom lessons daily, and proving how beneficial it is for student success.
I think that the use of technology in schools is one of the best decisions the school system could
have made. Living in a time period of accelerating change, I think that it is important to lean away
from the more traditional educational tactics of teaching and learning that may have worked in the
past. And start to transition into the more modern–day style of teaching and learning, which involves
technology. Students are always using technology. Whether it is them on their laptops, tablets, or
using their phones to surf the internet or an app, it is a vital part of their daily lives. I think that
because technology plays such a primary role in students' lives, the best way to connect with students
in the classroom, is to incorporate technology into some part of the lesson. I believe that

When we think about war, we think of brave men fighting on land against others. We think that
they are present and risking their lives for our freedom and for the most part, this is true but now
technology allows a few of them to protect our freedom behind a piece of technology. This idea is
emphasized in the film eye in the sky where there is no blood or gore from the soldiers fighting the
terrorist instead, there is a question of morality because they can kill "from the safety of your chair".
The idea that simple technology has evolved into one that is now used for more surveillance is one
that the film contributes to as well that for this to exist there has to be surveillance all around
from people. With so much surveillance there are also those who try to defy it and the film
shows how they do that. Surveillance is seen through things like fingerprints, face recognition,
media files, and coordinate location. All of these things show how easy it is to track a target, but
it also shows that such technology is changing to make surveillance easier to enact. Face
recognition systems only need a small amount of information about your physical appearance to
know a lot about who you are. In the film, face recognition even served in extreme measures like
identifying a dead body. This shows that even after we are dead they can know who we are even
if we no longer live to know it. Lastly, in the film, we can see that the people know exactly where
their targets are whether it be because of drones or people actually following the targets with this
the surveille will always know their location. All the types of surveillance that the film uses are
ones that "began as a means of cataloguing and retrieving mug shots but soon became a form of
identification in itself" (Parenti). The technology implemented in the film are all ones that have
evolved to become a type of technology that's sole purpose is to be used as a way of identifying
and tracing someone's everyday life. We started to see this change when "populations to be
fingerprinted in mass were convicts, petty criminals, soldiers, and native people" (Parenti) and when
the British used handprint records to "shape and control" political situations. All of these

There's good and bad in everything, including change; our society has changed in a number of
bad ways and a number of good ways; like the fact that we don't die from small pox or polio
because we have vaccines to prevent them now. We don't have slaves and aren't as racist as we
used to be, we don't beat people for loving the same sex, but of course for both of these there are
still people with an older (cruder) mindset so there is an exception here and there. But just in the
past 100 or so years our society has changed tremendously, and yes in some ways we have gone
backwards rather than forwards; but for the most part society has moved forward in changes and
technology. Alvin Toffler once said "Change is not merely necessary to life– it is life." and with
that, we shall begin.
Now here's a topic where the pros and cons weigh on each other heavily. Technology– we can do so
many things so much easier but we have lost touch with each other sometimes. We let electronics
and technology have full run of our life's and I can honestly not think of a job that doesn't require
technology. In this day and age, almost all of our jobs function smoother or are based purely on
technology. Actually, according to iowa.gov more than 50% of jobs require you to have some
sort of degree in technology. Since the 1900s we have come up with lots of inventions to help
further society and make our lives a lot easier. There's the obvious inventions like in 1901 "The first
radio receiver, successfully received a radio transmission" (thoughtco.com) or in 1955 we got the
first microwave oven. A really obviousinvention would be in 1937 we came up with the first digital
computer and then 36 years later we invented the first mobile phone, sure as the years go on we
came up with newer and more advanced versions of these but still! Now granted this isn't a
technological advancement but still a major invention (arguably one of the best advancements made
by humans) in 1928 a man named Alexander Flemming invented the first antibiotic opening up a
new world of invention.
Since we are on the topic of innovation and penicillin, lets talk medicine and the medical field. So
much has changed throughout the course of 100 years, especially death

Our lives are constantly being influenced by the new innovative technology, ideas, and the people
who make up our society. Children know how to use tablets at the age of four and people are
becoming increasingly intelligent. Or so we think? The opinions and ideas of our people are having
both diminishing and positive effects on us. Or is it not so black and white, but grey?
"The point is to be our most creative selves, not distract ourselves to death." This quote from TED

made me somber because I realized how damaging and destructive electronics are to the most
important relationships. The son wasn't appreciative of his mother's meal and continued on
being glued to his computer screen. Another quote spoken by the man was "Kids are spending
more than 50 hours a week on social media, that's more than a full work week." This statement
shocked me because it means that they spend an upwards of 7 hours a day on their devices,
decreasing the amount of time to socialize (in person) with their peers. Children are missing out
on their social development and the opportunity to participate in other activities. Another insane
point made is that young children are self taught on the ways and hacks of technology. I can
relate because my younger cousins who are four to six years old have already been exposed to
recording videos and playing on apps. Introducing devices to children at such a young age can be
destructive to them later on in life. It will create dependency and addiction issues as they grow up,
for example extreme anxiety. This is similar to points in Alone Together because of the issue of
anxious feelings and dependency towards your phone. "The idea of wrapping their social anxieties

How do most people view the functions of the world? Is there a consensus on how certain things are
handled, or utilized? Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three
decades ago. Such as the advancements in technology, and communication, an unfair economy that
bounces up and down, and lastly, a government that plays a major role in the daily lives of
Americans. With this, I will create a utopia, that cancels out the negatives of these changes.
In the past decade, technology has drastically changed our daily lives. We are now able to
communicate with one another, regardless of the physical boundaries that surround us. However,
these advancements in technology, have caused new issues that did not previously exists. In my
utopia, I would not ban the usage of technology, but I would regulate how is it used. Today, there
is Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. These apps dominate the minds of daily
Americans. With these apps, people can communicate with one another, without directly pointing
out a specific person. This could be used as a positive tool but, in most cases it is used negatively.
Such as, to bully or tear down others. For example, on Instagram the pictures that get the most
likes, are the ones who compare people to one another. The caption is usually, "Me VS you".
Social media has created a perfect platform of falsity. To correct this false hood, and forms of
bullying, my utopia would create new apps, that strictly regulate what is being posted. Technology
would be used in its greatest, positive potential. Efficient communication with others, would be its
one and only offer. Citizens would still be able to post, and access apps created for my utopia. Their
time spent on the internet though, would be limited per day. This would be to ensure face–to–face
social skills, that would be required in my utopia.
Today's economy has re–established the modern–day classes. The United States is now composed of
the lower class, middle class, upper middle, and upper class. This economy has created a huge gap
in income, and the people. A larger sum of taxes is imposed on those who don't have the means to
pay it; while those who do have the means, pay less. The current economy,

Everywhere I look, almost every single person is looking at their phone or has their phone with
them with myself included. We are addicted to these little boxes of electricity that cause more harm
than good. So many amazing things are happening all around us; yet, we are so obsessed with
technology which causes us to miss out on the greatness in life. Everything we "need" is on a
phone. According to a writer, fromThe New Yorker, "Technology is supposed to make our lives
easier, allowing us to do things more quickly and efficiently. But too often it seems to make
things harder"(Surowiecki). The purpose of technology is to make life easier, not take it over. A
phone is the top on everyone's list of things they can not do without. Technology is in all honesty
taking over all of our precious lives. Technology is causing everyone to miss out on what life has
to offer. Life could be amazing if we were not on technology all the time. A spoken word video
called Look Up by Gary Turk talks all about how we miss out on opportunities in life. For example
he says in the video "But none of these times ever happened, you never had any of this, When
you're too busy looking down, you don't see the chances you miss" (Turk). The video is about a
love story that never happened because the main guy was on his phone. Opportunities are

As we progress further into the future, technology seems to have more of a grasp on our society.
Which can be seen as both beneficial or damaging. We have come to a point in time were cars are
starting to become autonomous from a push of a button, no longer requiring us to stay focused at the
wheel. Should we entrust our lives within a man–made artificial intelligent? The internet on the hand
has a tremendously large impact on our society, for better or for worse. Most citizens would
consider the internet a good thing, not really considering the negative aspects that the bigger picture
it creates. A certain journalist from "The Atlantic" claims that the internet is shortening our
attention spans and is slowly being used more as an intellectual technology in the current day.
Referring to his example the "clock", as he states, "In deciding when to eat, to work, to sleep, to
rise, we stopped listening to our senses, and started obeying the clock." ()Consider the same
situation, but with the concept of the driverless car. How is that going to affect our day to day lives,
considering how the American society revolves around the automobile. Driving cars is a privilege,
that younger generations and future generations might take for granted. Numerals problems arise
from the increasing amount of AI technology seen thought–out our daily driving. We already have
short attention spans due to the internet and television, do we really need these circumstances in our
driving. For instance, the depletion in vehicular control from the "driver", will most likely produce
future generations lacking the acknowledge so calmly taught today. The liability of the AI and its
effect are still up for debate. However, taking the negative route, take note of the empathetic, and
moral decisions that a human can make, but can't program into a machine. Can the AI be intelligent
enough to tell the differences between an inanimate object, and an organism? Such technology
would have to have the same, if not higher eye–brain coordination than a regular human. If an
unavoidable automobile collision were to occur for instance, it would have to make a moral

Technology is one of the best things the human race could get their hands on. Yes it seems like

Technology, quite obviously, is all around us. That was exemplified by the research of
Michigan–born computer scientist, Bill Joy. In 1982, he co–founded Sun Microsystems and was the
chief scientist until 2003. He is the author of the world–renowned article, Why the Future Doesn't
Need Us. This article articulates Joy's worries over the development of modern technologies. This
essay speaks of genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and robotics (GNR), which are threatening to
make humans an endangered species. 21st–century technologies, honestly, are dangerous. They
should not be used to overpower the human populace. Joy had just begun to realize this in 1998, after
a discussion with Ray Kurzweil, "the deservedly famous inventor of the first reading machine for the
blind and many other amazing things". Along with the Berkeley philosopher, John Searle, who

There is a passage in the book by the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. Joy did not agree with the

Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology
We live in the world of smart TVs, smart phones, smart cars, but are those technologies making us
smarter? Many people today are worried that technologies do more harm than good, and that they
change our brain for the worse. However, people have been coping with technologies for decades.
In fact, James Robert Flynn, a New Zealand intelligence researcher says that, "Over the past 100
years, Americans' mean IQ has been on a slow but steady climb. The average person of 2012 had
a higher IQ than 95 percent of the population had in 1900" (30). This statement leads us to a
thought that, perhaps, our modern technologies play a positive role in our intelligence. Technology
became very complex over the past couple of decades and all of us are using...show more content...
Parents might blame their children's memory and attention problems on video games. And they
can be right, but only if a child spends too much time over playing. The same can be said about
watching television. Too much of anything is bad for us, and therefore video games should not be
blamed for attention problems. In fact, one study from a Current Biology journal shows that
"dyslexic children trained on action video games show significant improvements on basic measures
of both attention and reading ability," which shows that action games can increase our attention to
details and even be used as a treatment for dyslexic children (R282). Others say that video games
lead to violence. Susan Scutti, CNN reporter mentions a warning from American Academy of
Pediatrics in her article "Do video games lead to violence?" which states that "Video games should
not use human or other living targets or award points for killing, because this teaches children to
associate pleasure and success with their ability to cause pain and suffering to others" (Scutti).
However, there is not enough evidence to prove that violent games make children more violent. As a
matter of fact, Scutti also mentions Whitney DeCamp, an associate professor of sociology at
Western Michigan University who examined over six thousand eight–graders in his study and
discovered that "video games, no matter how bloody, did not predict violent

Persuasive Essay About Technology
Does the U.S. population believe that technology and devices are overused? Are we aware of the
problems they are causing for not only our safety and focus, but even possibly our morals? Most
assume that they have their technology use "under control." Others know how serious their
addiction is. It is crucial for not only some of the population, but everyone, especially teenagers
and adults, to realize the seriousness of this issue. Once that is accomplished, we can utilize
simple steps to get back to somewhat of the way life used to be lived, technology free. Yes,
technology is very important in society today, but we need to know the difference between using
it for when it's needed, and when we're abusing it. This essay scrutinizes the main conflicts that
technology causes, the effects of overusing it, and various solutions that can keep people less
distracted on their devices, and more attentive to their 'real' lives. On the other hand, it will also
look at some benefits of technology and ways it can make everyone focus. According to the
National Safety Council, in the United States, there are more than 3,000 car crashes each year
from distracted driving. From these 3,000 fatal accidents, more than half of the accidents were
from cell phone use. These is only the accidents that account for fatal crashes, there are more than
100 times that amount that result in injuries (National Safety Council, para. 1). Even those
everyday accidents in which people do not get hurt, it is still a major hassle dealing with the
others involved in the accident as well as the insurance companies on top of all that. Although
there are driving while texting laws in many U.S. states, it is not stopping young drivers from
constantly sending a quick Snapchat or text message. That is exactly why there needs to be new
methods to bring down texting while driving significantly. In a piece written by the National Safety
Council, they provide a promising solution. The National Safety Council shares information about
new cell phone blocking apps to prevent cell phone related car accidents. These apps are commonly
used by the parents of teenage drivers and it allows them to turn their child's phone service off while
driving. The app does not

Technology Persuasive Essay

  • 1. Persuasive Essay On Technology Addiction The instant a person 's phone goes off, their reflex is to immediately grab it, right? This is because they are addicted to their cell phone and it has become natural to check it when they receive a notification; It has become an addiction. Many times, while people are eating dinner, their cell phones lie on the table next to them, or they have them sitting in their laps. What makes this issue even worse is the fact that restaurants also have tablets on the table with games and different features and distract from the social benefits of family dining.Dining with one's family and friends is supposed to be a bonding experience where one can talk, laugh, and enjoy the presence of others. The additive nature of technology is the base of...show more content... Most adults use technology just as much as teenagers. While they may not be using them particularly for social media, it can also be an addiction for them too. When work becomes stressful and bills are getting piled up, adults lean towards their cell phone or computer/tablet to distract and get their minds off of the stressor. It is so addictive, it has become a natural reflex our society does not even notice. Technology has become the base of family/friends physical separation. As the gap between communication and interaction expands, physical contact becomes less important.(Simons) Physical contact is important because the more time you spend with family and friends, the better chance you have of sharing memorable experiences(1). It is always nice to see face to face with family and friends who you do not get to see everyday. Going out, making memories, and enjoying time together can be done without the distractions of cell phones. Most people would use the excuse for using cell phones to capture pictures; The newest iphone cost 14x as much as a new polaroid camera not including the bill you pay every month for a cell phone. Others would use the excuse of needing a cell phone to keep in touch with others or checking the time. Cell phones are made to keep in touch, keeping the ringer on and sticking the phone in a purse or pocket Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Modern Technology The utmost, overriding facet of our society has been placed in our hands, perched on a stand, and then plugged into a socket: modern technology. Today, individuals without up to date technology are christened anomalies that are late to the 'smart era' of smartphones, smartwatches, and smart televisions. In Is Google Making Us Stupid? by Nicholas Carr, and Be a Gamer, Save the World by Jane McGonigal, it is made comprehensible that, as a society, we have begun to intertwine ourselves in the tangles of our electronics, which we cannot seem to relinquish. Our generation has been advancing with technology nonstop to the point where a new gadget is practically released daily. Recently, the latest technological fixation that has rapidly spread like wildfire is video streaming: whether it be video–on–demand or live, it has concurrently seized and fashioned jobs, as well as intermixed communities and individuals alike. Ever since the emergence of humans, the demand for amusement was prevalent and constantly evolving. From watching gladiators brawl in an arena, to attending operas and plays, to channel surfing, people have continually desired to be entertained. Today, there is another alteration that is changing the way people absorb the content that they want. Streaming, the most productive way to receive internet content, has skyrocketed in our society as the internet has become a "universal medium" (Carr 573). It started with Netflix, and then it was adapted by other platforms. More and more people have gravitated towards their phones and computers as outlets for entertainment and news instead of their televisions, causing traditional media to race to conform to the innovative technology (Carr 576–577) of streaming. For example, there are presidential debates that have been live streamed, and are said to be the most popular stream in internet history. Streaming has become a trend that has yet to lose momentum, and has consistently stayed at the top of the consumer food chain. When it comes to watching television shows and movies, streaming websites, such as: Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon, have virtually monopolized the market, and have exceedingly brought down cable and theater sales. The mere thought of cable is Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology As time has progressed so have we and so has the technology that we create. We are at a point in time that everyone with the monetary means has the answers to everything at the tips of the fingers. Yet this amazing breakthrough in science and technology is tainted by the fact that people don't know how to control it. We have become completely addicted to our cellphones, absolutely engrossed and overtaken by the fact that we have all this access that we can't separate ourselves from, not even enough to realize that we may be in too deep. First, as teens we all wanted the newest things. The latest trends in fashion, the latest gadgets, and the latest cell phones. We begged our parents to get us that new shiny iPhone when it came out or that new Samsung phone, we wanted whatever we thought was cooler and better, and what we thought we could not survive without. And this is mostly because of what we can do on our phones. As Joelle Renstrom said in an interview with BU Today students have a "Fear of missing out", students are afraid of missing text messages, not knowing their friend's latest post on Instagram, or not knowing what happened last night on that Snapchat story. There is also the factor that students are anxious when they don't respond immediately as Renstrom puts it "There's a term called techno–stress to describe the frenzy"; they get nervous and worried when they receive a message or an email and they don't immediately respond. It is the fear of being penalized for not being attentive to your phone 24/7. On the other hand, it is the feeling of being liked and well–known among your peers. When we post a picture or tweet something and someone likes it, retweets it, or responds in any way that is positive it makes us feel good about ourselves therefore we look to post more and have a more active social media presence so that we can have feeling repeatedly. It's like being an addict with and unlimited supply. Secondly, studies have shown that excessive cellphone use can lead to serious psychological problems. In a recent study, it was discovered that in late 2012 more than 50% of the population owned a smartphone and around that same time the rate pf depression and suicide in teens began to increase. • 4. Persuasive Essay On Technology In Schools Technology, one of the greatest advancements of civilization, is a major factor in our world today. The young adults and children of this generation grew up in a wired environment with iPads, computers, mobile phones, laptops, and more. Although technology can foster a possible disconnect of social interaction, I believe that technology should be incorporated into schools more because it is a convenient source and enhances student learning. One of technology's greatest benefits to a student is that it is very convenient. The World Wide Web provides students with instant access to knowledge and information beyond what is in our everyday school textbooks. Students today find it so much easier to just "Google it" rather than having to go through the tedious task of searching through the many bookshelves of a library. Along with instant access to knowledge, technology takes away the burden of having to carry around hefty books and countless amounts of papers. Teens don't have to worry about losing worksheets or lugging around large textbooks because school work and books can be easily accessed on various school apps that teachers and students can use. Technology also saves students and teachers time. Students can easily complete and turn in assignments at the click of a a button. Grading can be less time consuming for teachers because there are various applications that can do the tedious task for you rather than rummaging through countless papers all night long. • 6. Technology Persuasive Essay Technology is an integral part of our daily routines. A 16–year–old 11th grader in Denver says, "I am probably on my phone 10 hours a day". One can further infer that technology has been incorporated into everything needed to survive. We use technology in business, education, medicine, and research, so much that one could even go so far as to say that our society has become obsessed. Although technology provides us with crucial information we now need to thrive in the world, it also has some controversial effects. In a recent argument, scientists (along with parents, students, and teachers) are trying to determine whether an overreliance on technology could cause isolation, inhibit mental growth, and/or cause depression and suicidal behavior among teens. Scientists have been pondering the question for years and have resulted with differing views. While some scientists believe that "there isn't enough evidence to condemn smartphones" and that there is "very little data to suggest mobile technologies are causing anxiety or social impairments", others are quick to blame. Those who believe the latter state that internet and smartphones provide a sense of "inescapability" and that allowing a young person to have constant access to these platforms is just like playing with fire. In a nationwide survey done between 2010 and 2016, the amount of young adults who experienced at least one major depressive episode jumped by 60%. Along with depressive issues, technology and internet have also been loosely linked to the inability to focus and show sympathy to others' emotions. The researchers who believe that technology and internet are often misjudged suggest that mobile technologies can often help people, especially marginalized groups, deal with judgement, bullying, and everyday stress. Candice Odgers, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Duke University, went so far as to say that jumping to conclusions and degrading smartphones could potentially lead researchers away from more notable factors. Other scientists believe that, while internet may not be the direct cause of depression, it can inhibit one's social interaction on a day–to–day basis. Though technology keeps us in touch with people we might not see every day, it has its ways of hurting the relationships around us and even the relationship we have with are self's. Pulling us to its screen ignoring the world around. Technology is a wonderful thing but it is something that everyone needs to learn to balance. Most people use social media, texting, and snapchat to make new friends or keep in touch with the ones we have already made, disconnecting us from the world around. Our brain tricking us to think that these connections are enough. Sherry Turkle a professor of "social studies of science" talks about in her book Alone Together, the effects that technology has on us. She explains it as a "Corporate trap, a ball and chain that keeps us tethered to the tiny screens of our cellphones, tapping out trite messages to stay in touch". • 8. Persuasive Essay About Technology In School Technology in School Technology is everywhere, it is involved in almost every part of our culture. It affects how we live, work, play, and most importantly learn. With technology being such a fundamental part of our lives and growing each day, it only makes sense that schools incorporate technology in the classrooms. Even though many people support the use of technology in schools, there are those that have concerns about the effectiveness of technology and whether or not it undermines education to solely prepare students for the workforce. Despite the concerns, technology is being integrated with classroom lessons daily, and proving how beneficial it is for student success. I think that the use of technology in schools is one of the best decisions the school system could have made. Living in a time period of accelerating change, I think that it is important to lean away from the more traditional educational tactics of teaching and learning that may have worked in the past. And start to transition into the more modern–day style of teaching and learning, which involves technology. Students are always using technology. Whether it is them on their laptops, tablets, or using their phones to surf the internet or an app, it is a vital part of their daily lives. I think that because technology plays such a primary role in students' lives, the best way to connect with students in the classroom, is to incorporate technology into some part of the lesson. • 9. Technology Persuasive Essay When we think about war, we think of brave men fighting on land against others. We think that they are present and risking their lives for our freedom and for the most part, this is true but now technology allows a few of them to protect our freedom behind a piece of technology. This idea is emphasized in the film eye in the sky where there is no blood or gore from the soldiers fighting the terrorist instead, there is a question of morality because they can kill "from the safety of your chair". The idea that simple technology has evolved into one that is now used for more surveillance is one that the film contributes to as well that for this to exist there has to be surveillance all around from people. With so much surveillance there are also those who try to defy it and the film shows how they do that. Surveillance is seen through things like fingerprints, face recognition, media files, and coordinate location. All of these things show how easy it is to track a target, but it also shows that such technology is changing to make surveillance easier to enact. Face recognition systems only need a small amount of information about your physical appearance to know a lot about who you are. In the film, face recognition even served in extreme measures like identifying a dead body. This shows that even after we are dead they can know who we are even if we no longer live to know it. Lastly, in the film, we can see that the people know exactly where their targets are whether it be because of drones or people actually following the targets with this the surveille will always know their location. All the types of surveillance that the film uses are ones that "began as a means of cataloguing and retrieving mug shots but soon became a form of identification in itself" (Parenti). The technology implemented in the film are all ones that have evolved to become a type of technology that's sole purpose is to be used as a way of identifying and tracing someone's everyday life. We started to see this change when "populations to be fingerprinted in mass were convicts, petty criminals, soldiers, and native people" (Parenti) and when the British used handprint records to "shape and control" political situations. • 10. Persuasive Speech On Technology And Technology There's good and bad in everything, including change; our society has changed in a number of bad ways and a number of good ways; like the fact that we don't die from small pox or polio because we have vaccines to prevent them now. We don't have slaves and aren't as racist as we used to be, we don't beat people for loving the same sex, but of course for both of these there are still people with an older (cruder) mindset so there is an exception here and there. But just in the past 100 or so years our society has changed tremendously, and yes in some ways we have gone backwards rather than forwards; but for the most part society has moved forward in changes and technology. Alvin Toffler once said "Change is not merely necessary to life– it is life." and with that, we shall begin. Now here's a topic where the pros and cons weigh on each other heavily. Technology– we can do so many things so much easier but we have lost touch with each other sometimes. We let electronics and technology have full run of our life's and I can honestly not think of a job that doesn't require technology. In this day and age, almost all of our jobs function smoother or are based purely on technology. Actually, according to iowa.gov more than 50% of jobs require you to have some sort of degree in technology. Since the 1900s we have come up with lots of inventions to help further society and make our lives a lot easier. There's the obvious inventions like in 1901 "The first radio receiver, successfully received a radio transmission" (thoughtco.com) or in 1955 we got the first microwave oven. A really obviousinvention would be in 1937 we came up with the first digital computer and then 36 years later we invented the first mobile phone, sure as the years go on we came up with newer and more advanced versions of these but still! Now granted this isn't a technological advancement but still a major invention (arguably one of the best advancements made by humans) in 1928 a man named Alexander Flemming invented the first antibiotic opening up a new world of invention. Since we are on the topic of innovation and penicillin, lets talk medicine and the medical field. So much has changed throughout the course of 100 years, especially death Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Persuasive Speech On Technology And Technology Our lives are constantly being influenced by the new innovative technology, ideas, and the people who make up our society. Children know how to use tablets at the age of four and people are becoming increasingly intelligent. Or so we think? The opinions and ideas of our people are having both diminishing and positive effects on us. Or is it not so black and white, but grey? "The point is to be our most creative selves, not distract ourselves to death." This quote from TED Talk entitled "Alone Together" by Sherry Turkle caught my attention. She exclaims how we are so caught up in technology, that we aren't realizing what's happening around us. We are so dictated and hijacked by it to the point that people are sacrificing conversations for...show more content... "His inability to communicate with me, his own mother makes me sad. I think if I can't control him right now, I may loose my son. " This quote is from a mother who has a computer–addicted son, made me somber because I realized how damaging and destructive electronics are to the most important relationships. The son wasn't appreciative of his mother's meal and continued on being glued to his computer screen. Another quote spoken by the man was "Kids are spending more than 50 hours a week on social media, that's more than a full work week." This statement shocked me because it means that they spend an upwards of 7 hours a day on their devices, decreasing the amount of time to socialize (in person) with their peers. Children are missing out on their social development and the opportunity to participate in other activities. Another insane point made is that young children are self taught on the ways and hacks of technology. I can relate because my younger cousins who are four to six years old have already been exposed to recording videos and playing on apps. Introducing devices to children at such a young age can be destructive to them later on in life. It will create dependency and addiction issues as they grow up, for example extreme anxiety. This is similar to points in Alone Together because of the issue of anxious feelings and dependency towards your phone. • 12. Persuasive Essay On The Use Of Technology How do most people view the functions of the world? Is there a consensus on how certain things are handled, or utilized? Today, there are new temptations, and functions that were nonexistent three decades ago. Such as the advancements in technology, and communication, an unfair economy that bounces up and down, and lastly, a government that plays a major role in the daily lives of Americans. With this, I will create a utopia, that cancels out the negatives of these changes. In the past decade, technology has drastically changed our daily lives. We are now able to communicate with one another, regardless of the physical boundaries that surround us. However, these advancements in technology, have caused new issues that did not previously exists. In my utopia, I would not ban the usage of technology, but I would regulate how is it used. Today, there is Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. These apps dominate the minds of daily Americans. With these apps, people can communicate with one another, without directly pointing out a specific person. This could be used as a positive tool but, in most cases it is used negatively. Such as, to bully or tear down others. For example, on Instagram the pictures that get the most likes, are the ones who compare people to one another. The caption is usually, "Me VS you". Social media has created a perfect platform of falsity. To correct this false hood, and forms of bullying, my utopia would create new apps, that strictly regulate what is being posted. Technology would be used in its greatest, positive potential. Efficient communication with others, would be its one and only offer. Citizens would still be able to post, and access apps created for my utopia. Their time spent on the internet though, would be limited per day. This would be to ensure face–to–face social skills, that would be required in my utopia. Today's economy has re–established the modern–day classes. The United States is now composed of the lower class, middle class, upper middle, and upper class. This economy has created a huge gap in income, and the people. A larger sum of taxes is imposed on those who don't have the means to pay it; while those who do have the means, pay less. The current economy, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Persuasive Essay On Technology Everywhere I look, almost every single person is looking at their phone or has their phone with them with myself included. We are addicted to these little boxes of electricity that cause more harm than good. So many amazing things are happening all around us; yet, we are so obsessed with technology which causes us to miss out on the greatness in life. Everything we "need" is on a phone. According to a writer, fromThe New Yorker, "Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, allowing us to do things more quickly and efficiently. But too often it seems to make things harder"(Surowiecki). The purpose of technology is to make life easier, not take it over. A phone is the top on everyone's list of things they can not do without. Technology is in all honesty taking over all of our precious lives. Technology is causing everyone to miss out on what life has to offer. Life could be amazing if we were not on technology all the time. A spoken word video called Look Up by Gary Turk talks all about how we miss out on opportunities in life. For example he says in the video "But none of these times ever happened, you never had any of this, When you're too busy looking down, you don't see the chances you miss" (Turk). The video is about a love story that never happened because the main guy was on his phone. Opportunities are constantly missed because we are too caught up in a phone. Imagine all the chances we could have if we did not spend 90% of life on a stupid phone. I can think Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology As we progress further into the future, technology seems to have more of a grasp on our society. Which can be seen as both beneficial or damaging. We have come to a point in time were cars are starting to become autonomous from a push of a button, no longer requiring us to stay focused at the wheel. Should we entrust our lives within a man–made artificial intelligent? The internet on the hand has a tremendously large impact on our society, for better or for worse. Most citizens would consider the internet a good thing, not really considering the negative aspects that the bigger picture it creates. A certain journalist from "The Atlantic" claims that the internet is shortening our attention spans and is slowly being used more as an intellectual technology in the current day. Referring to his example the "clock", as he states, "In deciding when to eat, to work, to sleep, to rise, we stopped listening to our senses, and started obeying the clock." ()Consider the same situation, but with the concept of the driverless car. How is that going to affect our day to day lives, considering how the American society revolves around the automobile. Driving cars is a privilege, that younger generations and future generations might take for granted. Numerals problems arise from the increasing amount of AI technology seen thought–out our daily driving. We already have short attention spans due to the internet and television, do we really need these circumstances in our driving. For instance, the depletion in vehicular control from the "driver", will most likely produce future generations lacking the acknowledge so calmly taught today. The liability of the AI and its effect are still up for debate. However, taking the negative route, take note of the empathetic, and moral decisions that a human can make, but can't program into a machine. Can the AI be intelligent enough to tell the differences between an inanimate object, and an organism? Such technology would have to have the same, if not higher eye–brain coordination than a regular human. If an unavoidable automobile collision were to occur for instance, it would have to make a moral decision on whether or not to protect the passages as well as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology Think back to the good ole' days of elementary school. You are running around playing tag at recess and reading notes that your mom sent in your lunch box. Those were the good days. Those were the days where your only worry was handwriting class or those awful timed multiplication worksheets. The children of the new generation will remember elementary school a little differently. Instead of handwriting class they are in typing classes, and instead of running around at recess they are playing angry birds. They will never know the frustration of getting knocked out of the ace spot in four square, or perhaps the feeling of swinging from the monkey bars to get from one side of the playground to another. We live in a society wheretechnology equals knowledge. The more technology you have the more knowledge you are believed to have encountered. As with any controversial topic, there are many layers included within this current debate; including the struggle of insufficient Wi–Fi access at students' homes, lack of and struggle with student focus in the classroom, and health problems that come from too much screen time for children. Although technological devices can be very beneficial to students, they can also hinder a student's education. Parents are also aware of the distractions that come with the tablets and other technologies, especially with younger students. One of the most fundamental keys to success is often over looked and that is forgotten to be taught, and then Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Persuasive Speech On Technology According to the former generations, technology = bad. "Kids can't pay attention to anything these days!" "Kids are too obsessed with their selfies and not what is going on around them!" "Kids can 't spell anymore!" (Which is definitely not tru.) I know that I 'm pretty dependent on my phone; I love scrolling through my tumblr feed to like selfies and retweet funny videos. Even though memes are frequently amongst the content, I also tend to get a few notifications throughout my time spent glued to my phone's screen. The kids in my class, even if I don't agree with them, often have logic behind why the government was right or wrong on everything from the legality of gun control to hate speech. However, my parental unit and I have gotten in some fairly heated debates when often my father– who I love very much– would repeat the same argument over and over with no new facts. And yet, he can vote. Before this year I was too young to vote, but apparently old enough to best a 50 year old college graduate on the topic of police brutality. At an increasingly lower age, kids are being bombarded with media, so they ask questions and take classes to learn more. This makes them informed voters. Not that there are or should be knowledge standards that need to be met for voting anyway. See: literacy tests, Jim Crow era. Back when the 2016 election was full–force, there was one candidate that drew in younger voters more than any other. He was a 76–year–old career politician. This man was Bernie Sanders, and even though my peers and good ol' Sanders were insurmountably distant in age, he understood the political culture of the United States' youth. • 17. Persuasive Essay About Technology Look around. Everyone has their faces buried into their phones, laptops, iPads, etc. Many people would say that technology is taking over in our everyday lives. I, however, beg to differ. Technology is one of the best things the human race could get their hands on. Yes it seems like everything is in "the Cloud" or everyone is tweeting, reposting, Snapchatting, and liking everything. But how I see it is, a way for people to communicate and share ideas they have with other like–minded people, accomplish papers and essays without having to go to a library because whatever device you use, has a search engine that can search any question you have. As an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because someone is responsible for the software and programs that allow a computer to run, the world around us is always adapting, and without technology, where would computer programmers be? If I received the Evolve IP Cloud Scholarship, then the scholarship would be able to open so many doors for me because I would be able to afford continuing my education. To begin with, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because someone is responsible for the software and programs that allow a computer to run.Computer programmers have to make the software and programs so the world can use it. It didn't just appear there. Someone had to make the plan before it could be something great. Look at Snapchat. It didn't just start out as an amazing social media application. No, a team of programmers came together and made the blueprints to what is now a great application for quickly sharing photos with friends and family. It doesn't stop a just social media applications. There are educational websites and apps such as Edmodo, where students and teachers can communicate with one another, find class assignments, and even turn them in electronically. Who do you think had to have done that? Furthermore, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because the world around us is adapting. We didn't get stuck back when medicines, indoor plumbing, and cars did not exist. So why should we let technology become dated? Computer Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Persuasive Essay On Modern Technology Technology, quite obviously, is all around us. That was exemplified by the research of Michigan–born computer scientist, Bill Joy. In 1982, he co–founded Sun Microsystems and was the chief scientist until 2003. He is the author of the world–renowned article, Why the Future Doesn't Need Us. This article articulates Joy's worries over the development of modern technologies. This essay speaks of genetic engineering, nanotechnology, and robotics (GNR), which are threatening to make humans an endangered species. 21st–century technologies, honestly, are dangerous. They should not be used to overpower the human populace. Joy had just begun to realize this in 1998, after a discussion with Ray Kurzweil, "the deservedly famous inventor of the first reading machine for the blind and many other amazing things". Along with the Berkeley philosopher, John Searle, who studies consciousness, Kurzweil told the two about how the rate of improvement of technology would increase, and thus, sentient robots were in the realm of possibility. After reading an early draft of Kurzweil's book, The Age of Spiritual Machines: When Computers Exceed Human Intelligence, Joy's unease accelerated. There is a passage in the book by the Unabomber, Ted Kaczynski. Joy did not agree with the seventeen–year murderous rampage that the man went on, as one of his bombs had gravely injured one of Joy's friends, David Gelernter, who is a brilliant computer scientist. Although Joy was afraid for his life during Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Persuasive Essay On Technology And Technology We live in the world of smart TVs, smart phones, smart cars, but are those technologies making us smarter? Many people today are worried that technologies do more harm than good, and that they change our brain for the worse. However, people have been coping with technologies for decades. In fact, James Robert Flynn, a New Zealand intelligence researcher says that, "Over the past 100 years, Americans' mean IQ has been on a slow but steady climb. The average person of 2012 had a higher IQ than 95 percent of the population had in 1900" (30). This statement leads us to a thought that, perhaps, our modern technologies play a positive role in our intelligence. Technology became very complex over the past couple of decades and all of us are using...show more content... Parents might blame their children's memory and attention problems on video games. And they can be right, but only if a child spends too much time over playing. The same can be said about watching television. Too much of anything is bad for us, and therefore video games should not be blamed for attention problems. In fact, one study from a Current Biology journal shows that "dyslexic children trained on action video games show significant improvements on basic measures of both attention and reading ability," which shows that action games can increase our attention to details and even be used as a treatment for dyslexic children (R282). Others say that video games lead to violence. Susan Scutti, CNN reporter mentions a warning from American Academy of Pediatrics in her article "Do video games lead to violence?" which states that "Video games should not use human or other living targets or award points for killing, because this teaches children to associate pleasure and success with their ability to cause pain and suffering to others" (Scutti). However, there is not enough evidence to prove that violent games make children more violent. As a matter of fact, Scutti also mentions Whitney DeCamp, an associate professor of sociology at Western Michigan University who examined over six thousand eight–graders in his study and discovered that "video games, no matter how bloody, did not predict violent Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Persuasive Essay About Technology Does the U.S. population believe that technology and devices are overused? Are we aware of the problems they are causing for not only our safety and focus, but even possibly our morals? Most assume that they have their technology use "under control." Others know how serious their addiction is. It is crucial for not only some of the population, but everyone, especially teenagers and adults, to realize the seriousness of this issue. Once that is accomplished, we can utilize simple steps to get back to somewhat of the way life used to be lived, technology free. Yes, technology is very important in society today, but we need to know the difference between using it for when it's needed, and when we're abusing it. This essay scrutinizes the main conflicts that technology causes, the effects of overusing it, and various solutions that can keep people less distracted on their devices, and more attentive to their 'real' lives. On the other hand, it will also look at some benefits of technology and ways it can make everyone focus. According to the National Safety Council, in the United States, there are more than 3,000 car crashes each year from distracted driving. From these 3,000 fatal accidents, more than half of the accidents were from cell phone use. These is only the accidents that account for fatal crashes, there are more than 100 times that amount that result in injuries (National Safety Council, para. 1). Even those everyday accidents in which people do not get hurt, it is still a major hassle dealing with the others involved in the accident as well as the insurance companies on top of all that. Although there are driving while texting laws in many U.S. states, it is not stopping young drivers from constantly sending a quick Snapchat or text message. That is exactly why there needs to be new methods to bring down texting while driving significantly. In a piece written by the National Safety Council, they provide a promising solution. The National Safety Council shares information about new cell phone blocking apps to prevent cell phone related car accidents. These apps are commonly used by the parents of teenage drivers and it allows them to turn their child's phone service off while driving. The app does not Get more content on HelpWriting.net
