Texting While Driving Argumentative Essay
Argumentative Essay Many accidents are blamed on distracted driving and most of the
distractions are caused by cell phone usage. However, some opponents feel that creating a law
against cell phone use infringes their personal rights. Others think that banning someone from
using their cell phones is equivalent to telling someone that they can't adjust their radio or chat
with someone else in their car. However, using a cell phone, whether talking or texting, while
driving can be extremely dangerous; it should be made illegal because it is very hazardous to
yourself and the people surrounding you, can lead to the death of loved ones, and it is even
compared to the danger level of drunk driving. No matter what age the driver is, under no...show

In the article, "Dead Girl's Parents Warn Students to Buckle Up and Stop Texting," shows that
texting while driving is hazardous and very real when Alex Brown, age 17, died due to result of
texting while driving while not wearing a seatbelt. The parents of Alex Brown, Johhny Mac and
Jeanne Brown, appeared in front of an audience of hundreds of Clyde middle and high school
students, to educate young people about Alex's accident and how easily it could have been
prevented. Texting while driving impacts the lives of those around you. A single distraction while
driving, as small and simple it may seem such as texting, can lead to the death of loved ones. Not
only is texting while behind the wheel bad enough itself, many people compare the danger level to
drunk driving. Driving while intoxicated at the same time is illegal, just as some believe texting
while driving should be as well. Larry Copeland states that after a study was conducted at The
University of Utah, it showed that driving with a blood–alcohol content of 0.08% is equal to texting
and driving. If people were more aware of how closely related texting while driving and drunk
driving are, it would help to inform all drivers on safety behind the wheel. Not only are distracted
drivers harming themselves, yet they are putting every other driver on the road in the same
dangerous position without realizing it. Texting while driving puts many driver's lives in danger daily.

Persuasive Essay On Texting And Driving
Crystal Gaddison Mrs.Gifford English 12 27 November 2017 Persuasive Essay: Texting and
driving Even though in today's time everyone has a cell phone and that it's not new to the world.
There are some disadvantages and advantages on having a cell phone. One advantage is that it
helps with communication with family and friends in today's time. One disadvantage with having
a cell phone is that when people receive a phone call or text they want to answer it right away no
matter if you're driving or not so it causes distraction and it's dangerous to text and drive. People
should not text and drive because it's against the law, people could die, and it's unnecessary. Texting
and driving is against the law because "In 2012 Alabama became the 38th state to ban texting while
driving." (http://www.drivinglaws.org/alabama.php) also "Novice drivers in Alabama– drivers aged
16 or 17 with an intermediate license less than 6 months– are banned from from using cell–phones
(both handheld and hands–free) and, like all drivers, banned from texting. Even the bus drivers are
banned from texting while driving."(http://www.drivinglaws.org/alabama.php) Not only that but
there are also fines you can get for texting and driving and those penalties are "Fines for texting
and driving are $25 (first offense) then $50 and $75. A driver will also be penalized with two
points against the driver's license. Alabama's cell phone and texting laws are considered "primary"
laws. A primary law means that an officer can pull a novice driver for texting without having to
witness some other violation. That is, the officer sees the novice driver texting and simply issues a
citation." (http://www.drivinglaws.org/alabama.php) Texting and driving can also be dangerous
because people could die. Not only that texting and driving causes distraction to where it increases
the chances of you dying or getting into car accidents. On https://www.dmv.org/distracted–driving
/texting–and–driving.php it says, "26% of all car crashes in 2014 involved cell phone use. At least 9

More than 70% of people have texted and driven before. 1 out of every 4 crashes are caused by
texting and driving. Texting and driving is also the leading cause of crashes in the United States and
is not slowing down anytime soon if laws aren't instated. Teens make up a large percentage of texting
and driving. Texting and driving should be illegal in every state to protect everyone, stop crashes,
and to save teens.
Making texting and driving illegal would keep everyone safe."After declining from 1999 to
2005, fatalities from distracted driving increased 28% after 2005, rising from 4572 fatalities to
5870 in 2008."(Associations 2) Every year this number goes up so something needs to happen to
prevent this from happening. Next, when texting for 5 seconds while at wheel going 55mph it's
equal to the length of a football field. This is relevant because if a driver looks down for a short
amount of time they are traveling very far. In that amount of time there could be pothole, turn, or a
bump which would lead to a crash and harming other people. Lastly, it is just as likely for the
passengers to get hurt then the driver. The driver needs to think about other people...show more

"Texting and driving has quickly become one of the biggest reasons for vehicular accidents,
injuries and even death."(Blankship 10). If the states do not make texting and driving illegal
there's is going to be more and more crashes due to distractions while driving. Next, There are 1.6
million accidents each year as a result of texting. The number of crashes from 2008 from now has
increased from 6000 to 330,000 in 2016. The states need to do something very soon to limit these
numbers. Finally, Crashes per year will drop dramatically if texting and driving is illegal in all 50
states. This will happen because people won't have distractions while on the road, however there
will still be people that do not obey the laws and

Now the system needs to be updated to address the new problems.....
The problem with the interstate highways system is the people texting and driving. Texting is a
big problem on the highway no matter if you just look at your phone for 2 seconds it is still a
problem cause anything can happen in a matter of seconds. It is common for someone to send a
text while there driving, sending a text doesn't seem dangerous. While your texting and driving
there are a litany of other factors at play. Being on your phone and driving is very common, it is
widely considered dangerous due to its potential for causing distracted driving and accidents. When
behind the wheel, it's important to not be distracted cause you take your eyes off the road in that that

I think to avoid texting and driving people should turn they phones on silent turning the phone on
silent will prevent you from hearing the sounds of your phone and making you want to check it.
Another thing people should do is completely turn the phone off going back to the turning the
phone on silent, turning it off may be even more better cause if its on silent you may see your
phone light up and you may want to check it so turning it completely off will stop you from
picking it up and causing a accident in a matter of second. Another thing you can do is put your
phone out of reach so you not even get the thought of touching your phone of picking it up. On
your phone it should be a app that stops you from receiving messages because you are in the car
and if you don't have a iphone you can download a app that helps you not get any messages because

Today, cell phones are a major part of our life. It has made things much more convenient by enabling
us to communicate with others in a small amount of time. One of the most used functions on the cell
phone is not the phone, but the instant text messaging. Who wouldn't love such a quick, easy
method of communication? Just flip open your cell phone, type in a quick "meet me @ 2 plz" and
press send. Text messaging is an easy and discrete way of communicating with others, but it has its
disadvantages and advantages. It is not a surprise why texting can cause so man problems physically
and mentally.
There are several advantages for texting rather than having a voice communication. One main
argument of why texting is better is that it...show more content...
It can also take up large amount of time that can be used for something important. Another
disadvantage is that texting has changed the importance of grammar and the correct spelling,
causing many problems because people simply do not know how to write formally and accurately.
After texting started, the language of texting was born. Grammar, spelling, abbreviation did not
matter anymore, which is why texting is largely popular with the younger generation. Finally, one
last disadvantage is that texting is so popular now that people even use it while driving. Texting
while driving is a growing issue today, especially with the teenagers. Texting while driving does
not only take your mind of the road, but from your eyes too. With car which can easily travel over
hundred miles per hour has made it even more dangerous for drivers who text. A mille–second is all
that is needed for a fast paced car to go out of control; from there it's all a disaster.
One thing is certain. Interpersonal connections and socialization is changing. While the speed and
ease of cell phones and texting seem to be making communication more frequent, it is also becoming
less personal and intimate and is causing us to become more illiterate. Meaningful face to face
conversations are becoming more difficult for younger generations and written communication is
becoming a thing of the past. People can argue over the disadvantages and advantages of texting, but

Most teens nowadays communicate via text messages. Why does the world need texting ? We could
easily talk face to face, or talk on the phone with the person we are needing to contact. Many people
do not think about how easy it is to misunderstand someone while contacting them via text. Showing
emotion to a person when talking with them one on one is not a problem, however while texting
showing emotions will arise a challenge; emojis just won't cut it for everyone. The majority of
Americans only uses texting today and some topics of discussion should not be talked about through

Argument Essay On Texting While Driving
Texting while driving is a controversial subject. The vast majority of people feel that texting
while driving should be illegal. Most people also feel that legal actions need to take place to stop
this behavior. However, I'm part of the small majority that disagrees with the main point of view.
I believe that texting while driving shouldn't be illegal and that states that have made it illegal
need to repeal those laws. Texting while driving isn't the true problem. The true problem is that
people get distracted easily. So I believe that making texting while driving illegal doesn't even
solve the problem. Another reason why it shouldn't be illegal is that people don't follow laws as
it is, and this can cause even more problems. Texting while driving should be the driver's choice,
not the government's choice. While those who think that the law that bans texting while driving
will solve the problem, I believe that it will only worsen the problem. The people who choose to
follow the law most likely don't care about texting and driving. So they probably wouldn't text and
drive even if it isn't a law. However, those who are addicted to texting and driving will not stop
just because a law is passed. In past events where similar situations have occurred, it has only
backfired on our government and society. This situation I'm talking about is making certain
drugs illegal. The government made drugs illegal believing it was going to help solve the crime
rate, solve social problems, health, and hygiene. This clearly did not go as planned. It ended up
creating gangs, private selling of different types of drugs, and crime rates increasing. I do agree
that texting and driving is dangerous. However, I believe that texting and driving laws make the
problem worse. People who still text and drive have to hide their phones lower on their laps than
they normally would because it is illegal to text and drive. Since they have to put their phones
lower on their lap, their reaction time increases. In some cases passing a law solves the problem,
but in other cases , like texting while driving and making certain drugs illegal, the problem can
possibly become worse. The reason why texting and driving is so dangerous isn't because of

Texting in Class Essay
Texting in class is a very touchy subject, and can be argued from many different aspects. One of the
main things though, is that texting in class would not be disruptive just for the student texting, but
also to the students sitting around the student that is doing the texting. In this today's generation,
everywhere around us people of all ages and cultures circle around their cell phones in everything
they do. Whether we are walking down the road, in the grocery style, in class, or even much
dangerously, in driving, cell phones have grown to be a very vital part of our everyday lives.
However, when it comes to cell phones and texting in the classroom, a very controversial answer is
given between teachers and students. Students say they...show more content...
As mentioned in an article on classbrain.com, 52 % of students text students that are in the same
classroom as they are at the same time! (Olanoff, sec. 1) Students think that when their teachers
get on to them for texting in class or have such strict policies because they are out to get them,
however, teachers do this because they are looking out for the benefit of the students. Many
students say texting is both wrong and right. Wrong in that it distracts them from paying attention
in class and thus getting behind in their studies. Also, it's right in that it could be a very important
text that couldn't wait and it wouldn't hurt to just send that one. When students choose to text in
class, it is solely their choice. Teachers with their strict texting policies and their form of
punishment, is only done in order to prepare students for life beyond school. The older students
get the more responsibilities they will carry at their jobs, and in providing for a family. If they
are not prepared at a young age to control their texting while doing something important as paying
attention in class or even driving, then they will not be able to control texting while at work which
could lead to them losing their job and having trouble keeping a job. It is very hard to do your job
right while being distracted every few minutes by an incoming text, and on the same hand, it's going

Ever since texting became a social norm at the start of the 21th century, distracted driving, precisely
texting and driving have become a problem causing numerous accidents. Many solutions have been
given ever since to penalize the law and took part of the growing number of people who text and
drive although they are well aware of the dangers.
When I was thinking of all the legal penalties that could be effective in deterring drivers from
texting, I came to realize that if people still text and drive even though they risk penalties it's because
the punishments for texting and driving is not getting to them the way it's supposed to. First thing to

For instance, the child may try to put his hand over the hot stove because he is curious and the
mother has the responsibility to discipline him. There are different ways that the mother could go
about that. First, if the mother tap the child's hand, it may not be effective if it didn't hurt him.
The reason why is because the child may wait the cost and benefits of touching the stove in his
head. If the tap didn't hurt and if he feels like, he wouldn't mind another one then he would do it
again. However, if the mother took more severe measure like take his liberties away like a video
game or other freedom he had. That could have gotten to him and he would understand that it's not
worth it to touch the stove if it means losing his liberties. So just like this case scenario, the public
violating the texting and driving rules need some punishment that are so exaggerated that they
figure that it's not even worth it to risk it. For example, raising the fine to a legally big amount but
no necessarily impossible to pay would be a great way to discourage them. Another would be a night

Texting: A Way Of Communication Analysis
Texting has become a common way of communicating between peers. It isn't just used to chat with
your friends, it has also become essential in the workplace, creating a bigger connection between
work and your personal life. An article was published on The Liberal on the risks of texting, but I
actually believe texting is great for us. It has made communication easier and its negative impacts
are very avoidable. The risks mentioned in the article are the driving impairments, the physical
injuries, and the effect it can have on your grammar. Although these risks seem dangerous, they can
be avoided easily. Texting is a fast and efficient way of communicating. Whether it comes to

psychotherapist named Iris Benrubi who says, "If I want to connect with a client, I can text them
and they'll call back quickly." It's undeniable that texting is a quick and effective way of
communication, and it will probably be here to stay. The article points out three dangers of texting
that are actually completely avoidable without having to stop texting completely. There is a risk of

Texting and driving has become a raising epidemic. Some states have made it illegal to use a
handheld phone while driving. Using a phone while driving may led to many car accidents and
deaths. That being said, making phones illegal to use while driving is a safe and smart law
because it can be physically prohibiting, a distraction, and dangerous. First of all, using a phone
physically requires them to use at least one hand. When driving a car, to have the best control, two
hands are needed on the wheel. If they are driving on the interstate, at seventy miles an hour, with
only one hand on the wheel because one hand is holding their phone, and then they hit something

If they don't constantly paying attention, problems can arise. Most importantly, using your phone
while driving can seriously hurt others or even themselves. If they are using their phone while
driving they are physically and mentally impaired. If they receive a message from a family
member, about a serious topic, while reading it and replying a little girl is walking across the
street. Since they weren't paying attention to the road and didn't have good control of their car,
they could have seriously injured the child because their mind was somewhere their body wasn't.
Even though, not everyone who texts and drives hurts someone, people do it daily and their fine.
The fact is that it only takes one time to do it, and something goes wrong, for someone to get
seriously hurt. Having a law that prohibits the use of phone while driving is something that should
be upheld everywhere because it limits their driving ability's physically and mentally, making their
driving unsafe for everyone. If they drive with their full ability, the less accidents will occur. This

While making texting/emailing while driving illegal has the potential to hinder the population from
doing it, I think that enforcing the law with the proper punishments is the best was to ensure that
people will not text while driving and therefore reduce the risks of accidents that occur because of it.
Making something illegal does not necessarily mean that people will stop doing it; otherwise, we
would see less drug–use and underage drinking– not to mention all of the wacky, out–of–date laws
that are still technically intact: the six–foot rule for strippers in Florida (kind of hard to give a lap

punishment they receive once caught. If the punishment...show more content...
If people are only receiving small fines and tickets as a punishment, that may not be a big enough
deterrent for them to stop. What may help them stop however is punishment more related to the
crime. For example, someone who is caught texting and driving should have to pay whatever fine is
currently associated (because nobody really likes having their wallet tampered with no matter
how much money they have) AND be required to do a certain number of community service
working with victims of texting and driving so they can see the true ramifications of their actions.
They should be required to help fix property damaged by a texting and driving accident, or
volunteer in a hospital room or home of a patient who has suffered injuries caused by an accident
from texting and driving. If caught a second time, they should be required to pay a larger fine, do
the community service once again, plus receive points on their license or have their license
suspended; because now they are not only have to see the results of their actions, but also have their
life impeded as well. If the infraction keeps occurring, the person should have their license taken

Does Texting Affect Writing? Essay
Does Texting Affect Writing: A Critical Analysis of the Influence of Text Speak in Student's Writing
We as a society are evolving with each generation to come. We are getting stronger, faster, and
smarter. Just as cell phones are no longer square blocks with numbers on them and TV's are not in
black and white, writing itself has also evolved. Once upon a time many wrote and spoke in a
Shakespearean form of language and over the years it has evolved into something we call modern
English. In recent years, technology has advanced greatly and cell phones have become one of our
primary use of communication. With cell phones came a new form of writing called text messaging.
Text messaging is used to send short, concise messages to anyone around the world. Often times
text messages involve the use of abbreviations which stand for different things and also involves
frequent use of emoji's as a form of expression. This form of writing is now considered informal
writing and is not acceptable in academic settings. In Michaela Cullington's essay "Does Texting
Affect Writing?" she touches on both sides of whether texting is hindering students writing or if it's
actually having a positive effect. She then makes is clear that she believes most students are
educated enough to know when text speak is appropriate and when it's not so therefore it has no
effect on students. Although, I agree with her thesis, she lacks credibility due to her insufficient
evidence. In addition, I also believe

Texting And Communication Essay
Ever taken the advantage of texting or video call to communicate with people instead of gathering
the confidence and talking in person? The amount of texting in this society has increased gradually
over the past decade with a percentage of over 7,700% (Burke). Since the development of
communication on modern technology, this generation's ability to communicate in person has been
damaged through lack of face–to–face interactions and improper grammar. Although texting and
social media may benefit relationships in long distance, privacy is invaded and the lack of
interactions in person can damage relationships. Furthermore, texting has changed the way the
world communicates because it provides an easier option for people to choose to contact people.
To begin with, texting has changed the way society in the 21st century communicates because it
deprives social skills of a person. The increasing amount of conversations developed on
technology has affected the confidence and social skills of this generation because
communicating behind a screen is different from communicating in person. Before sending a
message, an individual can erase and retype a message before a mistake is sent. On the other
hand, in a verbal conversation, errors are irreversible once something is said. Several people have
turned to technology to get over their fears of confronting people. Not only does this decrease the
confidence of social skill in this generation, it also increases cyberbullying, a form of

One text message is all it takes for one's life to change completely. Five seconds, five seconds for

Texting while driving is a big problem, and needs harder punishment in order to fix this problem.
Death rates are currently at an all time high, and it is most certainly because of texting while

Statistics show the incline of crashes due to texting and driving. " An estimated 450,000 people

Have anyone ever wondered why literacy rates are low? Technology is a very good thing, but
people should measure their usage. All electronic devices have apps where people can

people use when communicating through short message service (SMS) on their cell phones, or when
instant messaging and emailing each other, and it is beginning to creep into students' formal writing.
Teachers, not just language arts teachers, hate seeing...show more content...
In talking with teens, Donna Alvermann (2007) found even those who claim they strongly dislike
writing and never write outside school write entire paragraphs while texting, and some even create
alternate identities for different chat rooms, thus engaging in creative writing. Teens prefer to text
their ideas and feelings because it is less risky than speaking them, and Alvermann suggests content
area teachers can capitalize on that.
Teaching through Texting Language is not static; it grows and develops, and, like "ain't," such
textisms as LOL (laughing out loud) and BRB (be right back) may someday become acceptable
English. Young people already speak many of their text talk abbreviations. The fact of the matter is
the technology that spurred the development of this new language is here to stay, which means text
talk is here to stay, and taking a hard line on keeping it out of the classroom is a losing battle. It is a
losing battle teachers don't have to fight because they can harness the potential of text talk as a
teaching tool. Kristen Hawley Turner (2009) advocates using text talk to teach students how to
consciously code–switch, or switch back and forth between informal and formal English usage. She
and her graduate students developed an enjoyable lesson they call "Flip the Switch" which they use
to teach code–switching and, in the end, make it

Essay On Texting

  • 1. Texting While Driving Argumentative Essay Argumentative Essay Many accidents are blamed on distracted driving and most of the distractions are caused by cell phone usage. However, some opponents feel that creating a law against cell phone use infringes their personal rights. Others think that banning someone from using their cell phones is equivalent to telling someone that they can't adjust their radio or chat with someone else in their car. However, using a cell phone, whether talking or texting, while driving can be extremely dangerous; it should be made illegal because it is very hazardous to yourself and the people surrounding you, can lead to the death of loved ones, and it is even compared to the danger level of drunk driving. No matter what age the driver is, under no...show more content... In the article, "Dead Girl's Parents Warn Students to Buckle Up and Stop Texting," shows that texting while driving is hazardous and very real when Alex Brown, age 17, died due to result of texting while driving while not wearing a seatbelt. The parents of Alex Brown, Johhny Mac and Jeanne Brown, appeared in front of an audience of hundreds of Clyde middle and high school students, to educate young people about Alex's accident and how easily it could have been prevented. Texting while driving impacts the lives of those around you. A single distraction while driving, as small and simple it may seem such as texting, can lead to the death of loved ones. Not only is texting while behind the wheel bad enough itself, many people compare the danger level to drunk driving. Driving while intoxicated at the same time is illegal, just as some believe texting while driving should be as well. Larry Copeland states that after a study was conducted at The University of Utah, it showed that driving with a blood–alcohol content of 0.08% is equal to texting and driving. If people were more aware of how closely related texting while driving and drunk driving are, it would help to inform all drivers on safety behind the wheel. Not only are distracted drivers harming themselves, yet they are putting every other driver on the road in the same dangerous position without realizing it. Texting while driving puts many driver's lives in danger daily. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Texting And Driving Crystal Gaddison Mrs.Gifford English 12 27 November 2017 Persuasive Essay: Texting and driving Even though in today's time everyone has a cell phone and that it's not new to the world. There are some disadvantages and advantages on having a cell phone. One advantage is that it helps with communication with family and friends in today's time. One disadvantage with having a cell phone is that when people receive a phone call or text they want to answer it right away no matter if you're driving or not so it causes distraction and it's dangerous to text and drive. People should not text and drive because it's against the law, people could die, and it's unnecessary. Texting and driving is against the law because "In 2012 Alabama became the 38th state to ban texting while driving." (http://www.drivinglaws.org/alabama.php) also "Novice drivers in Alabama– drivers aged 16 or 17 with an intermediate license less than 6 months– are banned from from using cell–phones (both handheld and hands–free) and, like all drivers, banned from texting. Even the bus drivers are banned from texting while driving."(http://www.drivinglaws.org/alabama.php) Not only that but there are also fines you can get for texting and driving and those penalties are "Fines for texting and driving are $25 (first offense) then $50 and $75. A driver will also be penalized with two points against the driver's license. Alabama's cell phone and texting laws are considered "primary" laws. A primary law means that an officer can pull a novice driver for texting without having to witness some other violation. That is, the officer sees the novice driver texting and simply issues a citation." (http://www.drivinglaws.org/alabama.php) Texting and driving can also be dangerous because people could die. Not only that texting and driving causes distraction to where it increases the chances of you dying or getting into car accidents. On https://www.dmv.org/distracted–driving /texting–and–driving.php it says, "26% of all car crashes in 2014 involved cell phone use. At least 9 people are killed every day because of a distracted driver. More than 1,000 people are injured every day due to a distracted driver. In 2015 42% of teens say they have texted while driving–and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Texting And Driving More than 70% of people have texted and driven before. 1 out of every 4 crashes are caused by texting and driving. Texting and driving is also the leading cause of crashes in the United States and is not slowing down anytime soon if laws aren't instated. Teens make up a large percentage of texting and driving. Texting and driving should be illegal in every state to protect everyone, stop crashes, and to save teens. Making texting and driving illegal would keep everyone safe."After declining from 1999 to 2005, fatalities from distracted driving increased 28% after 2005, rising from 4572 fatalities to 5870 in 2008."(Associations 2) Every year this number goes up so something needs to happen to prevent this from happening. Next, when texting for 5 seconds while at wheel going 55mph it's equal to the length of a football field. This is relevant because if a driver looks down for a short amount of time they are traveling very far. In that amount of time there could be pothole, turn, or a bump which would lead to a crash and harming other people. Lastly, it is just as likely for the passengers to get hurt then the driver. The driver needs to think about other people...show more content... "Texting and driving has quickly become one of the biggest reasons for vehicular accidents, injuries and even death."(Blankship 10). If the states do not make texting and driving illegal there's is going to be more and more crashes due to distractions while driving. Next, There are 1.6 million accidents each year as a result of texting. The number of crashes from 2008 from now has increased from 6000 to 330,000 in 2016. The states need to do something very soon to limit these numbers. Finally, Crashes per year will drop dramatically if texting and driving is illegal in all 50 states. This will happen because people won't have distractions while on the road, however there will still be people that do not obey the laws and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 5. Today, cell phones are a major part of our life. It has made things much more convenient by enabling us to communicate with others in a small amount of time. One of the most used functions on the cell phone is not the phone, but the instant text messaging. Who wouldn't love such a quick, easy method of communication? Just flip open your cell phone, type in a quick "meet me @ 2 plz" and press send. Text messaging is an easy and discrete way of communicating with others, but it has its disadvantages and advantages. It is not a surprise why texting can cause so man problems physically and mentally. There are several advantages for texting rather than having a voice communication. One main argument of why texting is better is that it...show more content... It can also take up large amount of time that can be used for something important. Another disadvantage is that texting has changed the importance of grammar and the correct spelling, causing many problems because people simply do not know how to write formally and accurately. After texting started, the language of texting was born. Grammar, spelling, abbreviation did not matter anymore, which is why texting is largely popular with the younger generation. Finally, one last disadvantage is that texting is so popular now that people even use it while driving. Texting while driving is a growing issue today, especially with the teenagers. Texting while driving does not only take your mind of the road, but from your eyes too. With car which can easily travel over hundred miles per hour has made it even more dangerous for drivers who text. A mille–second is all that is needed for a fast paced car to go out of control; from there it's all a disaster. One thing is certain. Interpersonal connections and socialization is changing. While the speed and ease of cell phones and texting seem to be making communication more frequent, it is also becoming less personal and intimate and is causing us to become more illiterate. Meaningful face to face conversations are becoming more difficult for younger generations and written communication is becoming a thing of the past. People can argue over the disadvantages and advantages of texting, but Get more content on HelpWriting.net

We could easily talk face to face, or talk on the phone with the person we are needing to contact. Many people do not think about how easy it is to misunderstand someone while contacting them via text. Showing emotion to a person when talking with them one on one is not a problem, however while texting showing emotions will arise a challenge; emojis just won't cut it for everyone. The majority of Americans only uses texting today and some topics of discussion should not be talked about through texting. I strongly think texting was not the best invention to add to this world. • 7. Argument Essay On Texting While Driving Texting while driving is a controversial subject. The vast majority of people feel that texting while driving should be illegal. Most people also feel that legal actions need to take place to stop this behavior. However, I'm part of the small majority that disagrees with the main point of view. I believe that texting while driving shouldn't be illegal and that states that have made it illegal need to repeal those laws. Texting while driving isn't the true problem. The true problem is that people get distracted easily. So I believe that making texting while driving illegal doesn't even solve the problem. Another reason why it shouldn't be illegal is that people don't follow laws as it is, and this can cause even more problems. Texting while driving should be the driver's choice, not the government's choice. While those who think that the law that bans texting while driving will solve the problem, I believe that it will only worsen the problem. The people who choose to follow the law most likely don't care about texting and driving. So they probably wouldn't text and drive even if it isn't a law. However, those who are addicted to texting and driving will not stop just because a law is passed. In past events where similar situations have occurred, it has only backfired on our government and society. This situation I'm talking about is making certain drugs illegal. The government made drugs illegal believing it was going to help solve the crime rate, solve social problems, health, and hygiene. This clearly did not go as planned. It ended up creating gangs, private selling of different types of drugs, and crime rates increasing. I do agree that texting and driving is dangerous. However, I believe that texting and driving laws make the problem worse. People who still text and drive have to hide their phones lower on their laps than they normally would because it is illegal to text and drive. Since they have to put their phones lower on their lap, their reaction time increases. In some cases passing a law solves the problem, but in other cases , like texting while driving and making certain drugs illegal, the problem can possibly become worse. The reason why texting and driving is so dangerous isn't because of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Texting in Class Essay Texting in class is a very touchy subject, and can be argued from many different aspects. One of the main things though, is that texting in class would not be disruptive just for the student texting, but also to the students sitting around the student that is doing the texting. In this today's generation, everywhere around us people of all ages and cultures circle around their cell phones in everything they do. Whether we are walking down the road, in the grocery style, in class, or even much dangerously, in driving, cell phones have grown to be a very vital part of our everyday lives. However, when it comes to cell phones and texting in the classroom, a very controversial answer is given between teachers and students. Students say they...show more content... As mentioned in an article on classbrain.com, 52 % of students text students that are in the same classroom as they are at the same time! (Olanoff, sec. 1) Students think that when their teachers get on to them for texting in class or have such strict policies because they are out to get them, however, teachers do this because they are looking out for the benefit of the students. Many students say texting is both wrong and right. Wrong in that it distracts them from paying attention in class and thus getting behind in their studies. Also, it's right in that it could be a very important text that couldn't wait and it wouldn't hurt to just send that one. When students choose to text in class, it is solely their choice. Teachers with their strict texting policies and their form of punishment, is only done in order to prepare students for life beyond school. The older students get the more responsibilities they will carry at their jobs, and in providing for a family. If they are not prepared at a young age to control their texting while doing something important as paying attention in class or even driving, then they will not be able to control texting while at work which could lead to them losing their job and having trouble keeping a job. It is very hard to do your job right while being distracted every few minutes by an incoming text, and on the same hand, it's going to be very Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Essay On Texting And Driving Ever since texting became a social norm at the start of the 21th century, distracted driving, precisely texting and driving have become a problem causing numerous accidents. Many solutions have been given ever since to penalize the law and took part of the growing number of people who text and drive although they are well aware of the dangers. When I was thinking of all the legal penalties that could be effective in deterring drivers from texting, I came to realize that if people still text and drive even though they risk penalties it's because the punishments for texting and driving is not getting to them the way it's supposed to. First thing to see here is that if they penalty isn't big enough to make people see that it's not worth it, they will ...show more content... For instance, the child may try to put his hand over the hot stove because he is curious and the mother has the responsibility to discipline him. There are different ways that the mother could go about that. First, if the mother tap the child's hand, it may not be effective if it didn't hurt him. The reason why is because the child may wait the cost and benefits of touching the stove in his head. If the tap didn't hurt and if he feels like, he wouldn't mind another one then he would do it again. However, if the mother took more severe measure like take his liberties away like a video game or other freedom he had. That could have gotten to him and he would understand that it's not worth it to touch the stove if it means losing his liberties. So just like this case scenario, the public violating the texting and driving rules need some punishment that are so exaggerated that they figure that it's not even worth it to risk it. For example, raising the fine to a legally big amount but no necessarily impossible to pay would be a great way to discourage them. Another would be a night in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Texting: A Way Of Communication Analysis Texting has become a common way of communicating between peers. It isn't just used to chat with your friends, it has also become essential in the workplace, creating a bigger connection between work and your personal life. An article was published on The Liberal on the risks of texting, but I actually believe texting is great for us. It has made communication easier and its negative impacts are very avoidable. The risks mentioned in the article are the driving impairments, the physical injuries, and the effect it can have on your grammar. Although these risks seem dangerous, they can be avoided easily. In the article itself you can find a quote from a Thornhill psychotherapist named Iris Benrubi who says, "If I want to connect with a client, I can text them and they'll call back quickly." It's undeniable that texting is a quick and effective way of communication, and it will probably be here to stay. • 11. Texting and driving has become a raising epidemic. Some states have made it illegal to use a handheld phone while driving. Using a phone while driving may led to many car accidents and deaths. That being said, making phones illegal to use while driving is a safe and smart law because it can be physically prohibiting, a distraction, and dangerous. First of all, using a phone physically requires them to use at least one hand. When driving a car, to have the best control, two hands are needed on the wheel. If they are driving on the interstate, at seventy miles an hour, with only one hand on the wheel because one hand is holding their phone, and then they hit something and are unable to control the car. They could loose control and...show more content... If they don't constantly paying attention, problems can arise. Most importantly, using your phone while driving can seriously hurt others or even themselves. If they are using their phone while driving they are physically and mentally impaired. If they receive a message from a family member, about a serious topic, while reading it and replying a little girl is walking across the street. Since they weren't paying attention to the road and didn't have good control of their car, they could have seriously injured the child because their mind was somewhere their body wasn't. Even though, not everyone who texts and drives hurts someone, people do it daily and their fine. The fact is that it only takes one time to do it, and something goes wrong, for someone to get seriously hurt. Having a law that prohibits the use of phone while driving is something that should be upheld everywhere because it limits their driving ability's physically and mentally, making their driving unsafe for everyone. If they drive with their full ability, the less accidents will occur. This law is set to protect peoples' lives, not to control when they can or can't use their phone. Essay On Texting And Driving While making texting/emailing while driving illegal has the potential to hinder the population from doing it, I think that enforcing the law with the proper punishments is the best was to ensure that people will not text while driving and therefore reduce the risks of accidents that occur because of it. Making something illegal does not necessarily mean that people will stop doing it; otherwise, we would see less drug–use and underage drinking– not to mention all of the wacky, out–of–date laws that are still technically intact: the six–foot rule for strippers in Florida (kind of hard to give a lap dance from six–feet away), for example. What does hinder people from doing something is the punishment they receive once caught. If the punishment...show more content... If people are only receiving small fines and tickets as a punishment, that may not be a big enough deterrent for them to stop. What may help them stop however is punishment more related to the crime. For example, someone who is caught texting and driving should have to pay whatever fine is currently associated (because nobody really likes having their wallet tampered with no matter how much money they have) AND be required to do a certain number of community service working with victims of texting and driving so they can see the true ramifications of their actions. They should be required to help fix property damaged by a texting and driving accident, or volunteer in a hospital room or home of a patient who has suffered injuries caused by an accident from texting and driving. If caught a second time, they should be required to pay a larger fine, do the community service once again, plus receive points on their license or have their license suspended; because now they are not only have to see the results of their actions, but also have their life impeded as well. If the infraction keeps occurring, the person should have their license taken away before they cause an Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. Does Texting Affect Writing? Essay Does Texting Affect Writing: A Critical Analysis of the Influence of Text Speak in Student's Writing We as a society are evolving with each generation to come. We are getting stronger, faster, and smarter. Just as cell phones are no longer square blocks with numbers on them and TV's are not in black and white, writing itself has also evolved. Once upon a time many wrote and spoke in a Shakespearean form of language and over the years it has evolved into something we call modern English. In recent years, technology has advanced greatly and cell phones have become one of our primary use of communication. With cell phones came a new form of writing called text messaging. Text messaging is used to send short, concise messages to anyone around the world. Often times text messages involve the use of abbreviations which stand for different things and also involves frequent use of emoji's as a form of expression. This form of writing is now considered informal writing and is not acceptable in academic settings. In Michaela Cullington's essay "Does Texting Affect Writing?" she touches on both sides of whether texting is hindering students writing or if it's actually having a positive effect. She then makes is clear that she believes most students are educated enough to know when text speak is appropriate and when it's not so therefore it has no effect on students. Although, I agree with her thesis, she lacks credibility due to her insufficient evidence. In addition, I also believe Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Jackie McGinnis, a New York DMV spokeswoman, remarks that when the seat belt laws had become known to the public eye–– it took some time for people to actually see the big purpose. She now reports that seat belt compliance is over 90% due to an increase in distracted driving education and enforcement (JACKIE). Education to create awareness for distracted driving can come in many forms, but which will get the message across? Out of a survey taken by fourteen Salina high school teenagers, eleven of the fourteen students said that the best way to get the message across resorts down to "seeing is believing". Teenagers need to see for themselves the consequences for distracted driving or they will not see it as possible (SURVEY). Officer Lemon adds support by stating the stories of others who have suffered the consequences of distracted driving is a good way to show the dangers of distracted driving (Lemon). To bring distracted driving education and awareness to schools would be a great way to teach the student body about the dangers of distracted Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 16. Texting And Communication Essay Ever taken the advantage of texting or video call to communicate with people instead of gathering the confidence and talking in person? The amount of texting in this society has increased gradually over the past decade with a percentage of over 7,700% (Burke). Since the development of communication on modern technology, this generation's ability to communicate in person has been damaged through lack of face–to–face interactions and improper grammar. Although texting and social media may benefit relationships in long distance, privacy is invaded and the lack of interactions in person can damage relationships. Furthermore, texting has changed the way the world communicates because it provides an easier option for people to choose to contact people. To begin with, texting has changed the way society in the 21st century communicates because it deprives social skills of a person. The increasing amount of conversations developed on technology has affected the confidence and social skills of this generation because communicating behind a screen is different from communicating in person. Before sending a message, an individual can erase and retype a message before a mistake is sent. On the other hand, in a verbal conversation, errors are irreversible once something is said. Several people have turned to technology to get over their fears of confronting people. Not only does this decrease the confidence of social skill in this generation, it also increases cyberbullying, a form of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. Why Is Texting Important? One text message is all it takes for one's life to change completely. Five seconds, five seconds for one text message that could wait ,could not only change your life, but multiple other people's. Texting while driving is a big problem, and needs harder punishment in order to fix this problem. Death rates are currently at an all time high, and it is most certainly because of texting while driving. Nowadays, one can find hundreds of essays on this horrible problem, but the problem still hasn't been fixed. If America truly wants this problem to be fixed, we would do something about it. Statistics show the incline of crashes due to texting and driving. " An estimated 450,000 people were killed or injured last year in distracted–driving accidents" (Halsey 6 ). If texting and driving was taken more seriously then we would have reduced the death rate by a lot. As Saletan states, texting and driving is a danger, even if one texts for five seconds, five seconds is long enough for one's life to be taken away. • 18. Texting Argument Essay Have anyone ever wondered why literacy rates are low? Technology is a very good thing, but people should measure their usage. All electronic devices have apps where people can communicate and even live chat with one another. Texting is one of those things that are affecting people's brains and the literacy rates are dropping. People need to reduce the amount of texting because some people text and drive, and literacy rates are lower because of this. Another term for texting would be considered sms (source B). Sms stands for short term message. Tm is also a short term for text message (Dakin). Social Slang and slang in general is being used often when people talk to each other( Miners). • 19. Essay on Text Talk in Studentsв Ђ™ Formal Writing Several decades ago, "Ain't ain't a word" was a favorite litany of English teachers everywhere, and they sang it whenever that offending word cropped up in a student's speech or writing. Today, however, ain't is a word firmly entrenched in dictionaries, nonstandard, but a word nonetheless. Now, looming on the horizon is something which may make language arts teachers long for the days of ain't – text talk. Text talk, or text speak, is the language of abbreviations, acronyms, and emoticons people use when communicating through short message service (SMS) on their cell phones, or when instant messaging and emailing each other, and it is beginning to creep into students' formal writing. Teachers, not just language arts teachers, hate seeing...show more content... In talking with teens, Donna Alvermann (2007) found even those who claim they strongly dislike writing and never write outside school write entire paragraphs while texting, and some even create alternate identities for different chat rooms, thus engaging in creative writing. Teaching through Texting Language is not static; it grows and develops, and, like "ain't," such textisms as LOL (laughing out loud) and BRB (be right back) may someday become acceptable English. Young people already speak many of their text talk abbreviations. The fact of the matter is the technology that spurred the development of this new language is here to stay, which means text talk is here to stay, and taking a hard line on keeping it out of the classroom is a losing battle. It is a losing battle teachers don't have to fight because they can harness the potential of text talk as a teaching tool. Kristen Hawley Turner (2009) advocates using text talk to teach students how to consciously code–switch, or switch back and forth between informal and formal English usage. She and her graduate students developed an enjoyable lesson they call "Flip the Switch" which they use to teach code–switching and, in the end, make it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
