OUR TEAM
Jim Lorence is President of Lorence & Vander Zwart and has over
25 years in the financial services business. After receiving his
bachelors degree from Cornerstone University, Jim joined his father
in the securities business in 1985 and in 1990 received the
professional certification of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™. He
is co-founder of the award winning national independent broker
dealer, NEXT Financial Group, Inc. and served as a director of NEXT
from 1998 to 2006.
Jim has served as President/CEO and Senior Portfolio Counselor for
Lorence & Vander Zwart since the firm’s registration in 1992.
Jim and his wife Mary have three daughters and one granddaughter.
In his free time he enjoys preparing meals for family and friends and
hunting big game out West.
Ryan Vander Zwart has over 15 years in the financial services
business. Ryan received his B.A. in Accounting from Hope College in
1997. Ryan has earned his Series 7, 24, 51, 63 and 65 securities
licenses and is also licensed for Life and Health Insurances. Ryan
received the professional certification of CERTIFIED FINANCIAL
PLANNER™ in 1999.
Ryan currently serves as Vice President, Chief Compliance Officer,
and Portfolio Counselor for Lorence & Vander Zwart.
Ryan and his wife Amy live in Byron Center with their three children.
In rare moments of free time, he enjoys running and fishing for
Northern Pike and Walleye.
Nate Baumann serves as a Financial Professional for Lorence &
Vander Zwart. Nate holds a bachelors degree in Finance from Grand
Valley State University. In addition, he has earned his Series 7 and 66
licenses and is licensed for Life and Health Insurance. Nate uses his
training to create customized financial plans and investment alloca-
tions for Lorence & Vander Zwart clients. He values the independ-
ence and passion it takes to run a small business and shares the com-
mitment to personal and attentive customer service.
Nate lives with his wife Claire and daughter Lauren in Holland.
When he is away from the office he enjoys playing golf, watching
baseball, and reading.

Julie DeVisser is the Operations Manager for Lorence & Vander
Zwart. Julie earned her bachelor’s degree in finance from Davenport
University in 2002. As the Operations Manager, Julie is responsible
for overseeing the
behind-the-scenes work that goes into processing business for our
clients, and the managing of client records. Julie has successfully
passed the Series 4, 7, 24, 51 and 66 exams. In her spare time, she
enjoys traveling, writing, digital photography and scrapbooking.
Steve Riemersma serves as the Research Coordinator & Head
Trader for LVZ Advisors. Steve is responsible for trading securities,
portfolio analysis, security analysis, and also spends much of his time
focusing on special
projects and performance reporting related to LVZ Advisors. Steve
previously worked at Johnson Controls in Holland for seven years be-
fore coming to Lorence & Vander Zwart. He and his wife Valerie live in
Allegan with their six children. As a family they enjoy hiking, camping
and playing games. When Steve can find spare time he enjoys playing
golf and softball, as well as reading and watching movies.
Lynn Ritsema is the Executive Assistant at Lorence & Vander
Zwart. Her primary responsibilities include providing administrative
support to the President and Vice President, and the implementation
of advertising and communication plans, event coordination and en-
suring quality in client
relations. Lynn lives in Hudsonville with her husband, Bruce, and
three daughters.

Specialized Gifting
Strategies
Lorence & Vander Zwart works with many clients to provide sophisticated legacy
planning. This can often include the funding of specialized Trusts through coordinated
efforts with the client’s legal advisors. Legacy planning can also be accomplished
through specific gifting of highly appreciated investments. The establishment of Donor
Advised Funds can significantly reduce capital gains tax while accomplishing the funding
of the client’s favorite charitable organization.

Development
Jim and Ryan believe that a formal, written and comprehensive financial plan designed
specifically for each client is foundation to future financial success much like a map is
necessary to navigate unfamiliar territory. Comprehensive financial planning includes the
analysis of the client's goals, all current assets including employer sponsored retirement
plans and personal property, liabilities, insurance, taxation, and estate planning.
Implementation, which may include new investment recommendations, is conditional on a
financial plan acceptable to both client and planner.
Expectations & New Client Timeline:
First Meeting: Introduction and data gathering
Time: 1 - 2 hours
Second Meeting: Review completed Financial Plan, discuss implementation or
consider plan revisions
