EDUC 6731 Assessment for Student Learning
*This photo album is an overview of my unit on The
 Founders of Georgia: James Oglethorpe, Mary
 Musgrove, and Tomochichi.
*This album will allow the students to learn about
 life of each historical figure and compare and
 contrast their life of today to the life the historical
 figure of the past and identify the contribution
 each person made to help Georgia become a colony.
*

This unit is a second grade Social Studies and Language Arts Unit. It will teach
students how Georgia became a colony, compare and contrast their life to the
historical figure’s life of their choosing.
* Students will know…
          the key details of the historical figure’s life
          the contribution that each person make to help Georgia become a colony
          the specific points the author makes to help Georgia become a colony
* Students will be able to…
           apply grade level phonics to improve reading skills
           Identify the important events in the story of how Georgia became a colony
           Use the writing process to write a narrative that compares and
           contrasts how their life is similar and different from the historical figure
* The students have to know key details of each historical figure’s
 life.
* Students will work in cooperative groups using the Think-Pair Share
 Strategy and create a tree map to answer the essential question:
 Which questions can I ask to identify the contributions James
 Oglethorpe, Mary Musgrove, and Tomochichi made to help Georgia
 become a colony?
* Students will use the writing process to write a narrative to
 compare and contrast their life to the historical figure’s life. The
 students will be working in small groups to create a narrative using
 Window Live Movie Maker or a Power Point Presentation.
