Foundation portfolio - Evaluation question 4

2. My media product would attract a wide audience as it
appeals to many people but it especially appeals to women
aged between 15 and 35 as this is because at the age of 15
females usually have the maturity to understand and
emphasise with the main character who will be
experiencing a challenging time. I have a range of 20 years
for my target audience which is unusual as many film have
a much smaller age range but I felt as if it was important to
include a wide age range as it will appeal to a lot of people.

3. I have also identified that the audience will probably be family
orientated as they will value the loss that the main character
feels and will appreciate the journey she goes on in order to
find what she is missing. This orientation will also provide
people who have a strong family unit feel grateful for what
they have and it may encourage them to try to help people
who are not as fortunate as themselves.
We have also identified that according to McQuail and Katz's
theory the audience may use the film for identification and
social interaction. The identification may come from the fact
that they will use the characters to define themselves, also
they may use it for social interaction as they can relate to the
main character.

4. In terms of Rubicam and Young's 7 types of people our audience
cover a range of types. These are;
explorers, succeeders, reformers and mainstreams. It will appeal
to the 'explorers' as they will enjoy the adventure the main
character goes on. 'Succeeders' are also likely to enjoy the fact
that the main character posses a strong goal as this is a feature
they often possess in their own lives. A 'reformer's' main value is
based on their own independent values which our character
shows as she leaves despite people advising her not to go. Finally
mainstream people like security and for life to be everyday
therefore this may challenge what they want and as many people
fit into more than one category I feel we have appealed to a wide
audience.
