Working of power plant
• To understand working of NTPC we studied Anta Gas Based
Combined Cycle Power Project.
• Anta Gas Based Combined Cycle Power Project is not only
the first Gas Power Plant of NTPC but is also the beginning
of an era of state of art Combined Cycle Power Plants in the
country.
NTPC Gas Power Plant Anta
• Established in : 1989
• Type of station : Gas based combined cycle
• Location : Anta in Baran district of Rajasthan
• Total land : 390.75 acres.
• Fuel : Natural Gas, Naphtha
• Fuel source : By GAIL through HBJ
Pipe line
• Water source : KOTA RIGHT MAIN CANAL
• Reservoir : 10 Million m3 , for One Month
• Gas Turbine Output : 3 X 88.71 MW
• Steam Turbine Output : 153.20 MW
• Net plant Output : 419.33MW
Applications of Gas Turbine
Conventional applications are
• Simple cycle operation.
• Combined cycle operation.
Electric utility companies use gas turbine predominantly
in simple cycle and combined cycle applications.
Combined cycle operation is much efficient than open
cycle operation.
COMBINED CYCLE
Combined cycle power plant integrates two power
conversion cycles
• Brayton cycle (gas-turbine) and
• Rankine cycle (steam-turbine)
• with the principal objective of increasing overall plant
efficiency.

Combined Cycle Process
• Gas turbine exhaust is at temperature of 500-550 c
• Rankine cycle heat is required to generate of 500-550 c
• Gas turbine exhaust heat can be recovered using a waste
heat recovery boiler to run a steam turbine on Rankine
cycle
• If efficiency of gas turbine cycle is 33% and
• the efficiency of Rankine cycle is 16%
• then over all efficiency comes to 49%.
Waste Heat Recovery Boiler
• Anta Combined cycle power plant also known as
Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB) plant.
• which are of non-fired, dual pressure and forced
circulation type.
• The boiler has two different water/steam cycle known
as high-pressure system and low-pressure system.
220 kV Switchyard
A Switchyard is the
place at which switching
operation of power
distribution is
performed.
NTPC-Anta Gas Power
Station has a 220 kV
Switchyard which is used
for switching operation
and power evacuation for
six 220 kV transmission
lines.
There are total six 220 kv transmission lines for
evacuation of power generated at Anta.
 Two lines for Bhilwara,
 One lines for Dousa,
 One lines for SawaiMadhopur,
 One line for Kota and
 One line for RAPP.

  • 18. Working of power plant • To understand working of NTPC we studied Anta Gas Based Combined Cycle Power Project. • Anta Gas Based Combined Cycle Power Project is not only the first Gas Power Plant of NTPC but is also the beginning of an era of state of art Combined Cycle Power Plants in the country.
  • 19. NTPC Gas Power Plant Anta • Established in : 1989 • Type of station : Gas based combined cycle • Location : Anta in Baran district of Rajasthan • Total land : 390.75 acres. • Fuel : Natural Gas, Naphtha • Fuel source : By GAIL through HBJ Pipe line • Water source : KOTA RIGHT MAIN CANAL • Reservoir : 10 Million m3 , for One Month • Gas Turbine Output : 3 X 88.71 MW • Steam Turbine Output : 153.20 MW • Net plant Output : 419.33MW
  • 20. Applications of Gas Turbine Conventional applications are • Simple cycle operation. • Combined cycle operation. Electric utility companies use gas turbine predominantly in simple cycle and combined cycle applications. Combined cycle operation is much efficient than open cycle operation.
  • 21. COMBINED CYCLE Combined cycle power plant integrates two power conversion cycles • Brayton cycle (gas-turbine) and • Rankine cycle (steam-turbine) • with the principal objective of increasing overall plant efficiency.
  • 22. G Gas Turbine Air Fuel 100% input Exhaust gas G 15% Steam 16%Steam Turbine WHRB 33% Condenser 36% Combined Cycle Process Reservoir Inlet Temp. 1005 °C flue gas temp. 505 °C
  • 23. Combined Cycle Process • Gas turbine exhaust is at temperature of 500-550 c • Rankine cycle heat is required to generate of 500-550 c • Gas turbine exhaust heat can be recovered using a waste heat recovery boiler to run a steam turbine on Rankine cycle • If efficiency of gas turbine cycle is 33% and • the efficiency of Rankine cycle is 16% • then over all efficiency comes to 49%.
  • 24. Waste Heat Recovery Boiler • Anta Combined cycle power plant also known as Waste Heat Recovery Boilers (WHRB) plant. • which are of non-fired, dual pressure and forced circulation type. • The boiler has two different water/steam cycle known as high-pressure system and low-pressure system.
  • 25. 220 kV Switchyard A Switchyard is the place at which switching operation of power distribution is performed. NTPC-Anta Gas Power Station has a 220 kV Switchyard which is used for switching operation and power evacuation for six 220 kV transmission lines.
  • 26. There are total six 220 kv transmission lines for evacuation of power generated at Anta.  Two lines for Bhilwara,  One lines for Dousa,  One lines for SawaiMadhopur,  One line for Kota and  One line for RAPP. POWER EVACUATION FROM NTPC-ANTA
