Dieser imposante Felsbrocken, einst vom Dichter Ariosto
lobgepriesen und von der Markgräfin, Mäzenin und Dichterin Vittoria
Colonna bewohnt, ist aufgrund seiner außergewöhnlichen Schönheit
das typischste Wahrzeichen der Insel Ischia.
Die meisten Geschehnisse der Insel, von blutigen Kämpfen bis hin
zum fröhlichen Hofleben, fanden hier statt. Man braucht nur kurz
hinauf zur Burg zu schauen, und schon wird man sich in der Zeit

I Giardini La Mortella sono un grande complesso -giardino botanico,
museo e teatro all’aperto- creato dal 1958 da Lady Susana Walton
(1926-2010), con il marito, il compositore inglese Sir William Walton
(1902-1983). Disegnata dal famoso paesaggista inglese Russell
Page, La Mortella è un giardino tropicale rinomato in tutta Europa.
La Mortella è divisa in due zone. La Valle, dal microclima umido
ed ombroso, ospita una pittoresca raccolta di piante subtropicali,
mentre la Collina, luminosa ed assolata, accoglie piante circum-
mediterranee. Ci sono serre tropicali ed una voliera con pappagalli. Il
giardino è lussureggiante, con grandi alberi, fontane e corsi d’acqua,
fiori variopinti e panorami sul mare. La Mortella è proprietà della
Fondazione William Walton e La Mortella, che gestisce il giardino
ed il Museo Walton e organizza stagioni concertistiche nella Sala
Recite e nel Teatro greco.
The complex of Villa La Mortella, which includes the botanical garden,
the museum and an open theatre, was built in 1958 by Lady Susana
Walton (1926-2010) and her husband, British composer Sir William
Walton (1902-1983). Designed by the famous landscape architect
Russel Page, the park of Villa La Mortella is a tropical garden of
European prestige. It is divided into two areas: the Valley, with its
wet and shaded microclimate, is home to a picturesque collection of
subtropical plants, while the Hill, sunny and bright, is populated by
circum-Mediterranean plants. The garden also hosts several tropical
greenhouses and a parrot aviary. The park, with its tall trees, its
fountains and water streams, and its varied and colourful flowers, is
luxuriant and rich, and it is full of stunning seaside views. La Mortella is
owned by the “William Walton e La Mortella” Foundation, which guards
and manages the garden and the museum and organises seasonal
concerts in both the Performance Hall and the Greek Theatre.

Der Namen „Giardini La Mortella“ bezeichnet einen großzügig angel-
egten Komplex – botanischer Garten, Museum und Freilichttheater
in einem –, der 1958 von Lady Susana Walton (1926-2010) zusam-
men mit ihrem Mann, dem englischen Komponisten Sir William Wal-
ton (1902-1983) kreiert wurde. Diese Gartenanlage, entworfen nach
den Zeichnungen des berühmten britischen Landschaftsarchitekten
Russell Page, ist europaweit bekannt. „La Mortella“ ist in zwei Zonen
aufgegliedert. Das „Tal“, mit feuchtem Mikroklima und reichlich Schat-
ten, beherbergt eine pittoreske Sammlung von subtropischen Pflanzen,
während der „Hügel“, hell und sonnig, Pflanzen aus dem Mittelmeerge-
biet ein artgerechtes Zuhause bietet. Unter den zahlreichenAttraktionen
findet man tropische Gewächshäuser und eine Voliere mit Papageien.
Der Garten ist äußerst fruchtbar, mit großen Bäumen, Brunnen und
Bächen, farbenfrohen Blütenpflanzen und verwunschenen Ecken mit
Meeresblick. „La Mortella“ ist Eigentum der Stiftung „Fondazione Wil-
liam Walton e La Mortella“, die den Garten und das Walton-Museum
verwaltet sowie Konzertprogramme im Aufführungssaal und im Grie-
chischen Theater organisiert.

La Colombaia è la villa, residenza estiva del regista Luchino Visconti,
immersa nel suggestivo bosco di Zaro, sospesa sul mare azzurro di
Forio. Dichiarata di interesse culturale e architettonico dal Ministero
dei Beni e delle Attività culturali, è sede di una Fondazione che cura
con attività varie la memoria del regista e ne ospita nel parco, per
sua precisa volontà, le ceneri.
Una mostra permanente di fotografie della famiglia, delle opere
cinematografiche e teatrali è esposta all’interno dei suggestivi
ambienti e del Caffè letterario; un anfiteatro naturale circondato da
alberi del paesaggio mediterraneo è teatro estivo di manifestazioni
musicali e teatrali.
La Colombaia is a villa that used to be the summer residence of
film director Luchino Visconti; it is located in the heart of Zaro wood,
overlooking the blue sea of Forio. Declared as a site of cultural
interest by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, the villa
is home to a Foundation that, with several activities, commemorates
the great director and guards the barrow he specifically chose to be
buried in.
The villa and the Café Letterario (Italian for “Literary Café”) display
a permanent exhibition of pictures of Luchino Visconti’s family, his
theatrical performances and his films. During the summer, the natural
amphitheatre of the villa, surrounded by Mediterranean trees, hosts
a number of musical and theatrical performances.

„La Colombaia“ ist die Villa, die Regisseur Luchino Visconti als seine
Sommerresidenz erkor, eingebettet im herrlichen Mittelmeerwald
von Zaro, beinahe „schwebend“ oberhalb des blauen Meeres
von Forio. Das Anwesen wurde vom italienischen Ministerium für
Kultur als Ort von „besonderem kulturellen und architektonischen
Interesse“ bezeichnet. „La Colombaia“ ist Sitz einer Stiftung, die mit
verschiedenen Initiativen das Andenken des Regisseurs pflegt. Dem
Wunsch des großen Künstlers nachkommend, wurde seine Asche
hier verwahrt.
Die permanente Ausstellung von Fotos der Familie Visconti sowie
seiner Werke für die große Leinwand und das Theater kann in den
eindrucksvollen Räumen und im literarischen Café besichtigt werden.
In einem von der typischen Mittelmeervegetation umgebenen
natürlichen Amphitheater finden im Sommer außerdem interessante
Musik- und Theaterveranstaltungen statt.

Il MuseoArcheologico di Pithecusae illustra la storia dell’isola d’Ischia
dalla Preistoria all’Età romana. Otto le sale espositive. Particolare
attenzione meritano i materiali ceramici che danno testimonianza
dell’antica Pithecusae, il più antico stanziamento fondato sulle
coste del Tirreno da Greci provenienti dall’isola di Eubea fondata
nel secondo quarto dell’VIII sec. a. C. e che ha giocato un ruolo di
primaria importanza per la nascita della civiltà della Magna Grecia e
per la diffusione della scrittura alfabetica, di cui rende testimonianza,
nel Museo, la famosa coppa da Rodi con iscrizione metrica nota
come “Coppa di Nestore”.
Il Museo è inserito all’interno del Complesso Museale di Villa Arbusto
ove è possibile visitare anche il Museo A. Rizzoli, il parco e la sala
esposizioni “Villa Gingerò”.

The Archaeological Museum of Pithecusae shows the history of the
island of Ischia from Prehistory to the Roman age in eight exhibition
halls. Particularly interesting are the ceramic artefacts that were
found in the village of Pithecusae, the most ancient Greek colony
on the coasts of the Tyrrhenian Sea: it was founded in the second
quarter of the VIII century B.C. by the Greeks of Euboea. This colony
played a crucial role in the birth of Magna Graecia and its civilisation,
and also in the spread of alphabetic writing: this is proved by the
metric inscription engraved in the famous ceramic cup coming from
Rhodes known as “Nestor’s Cup” on display at the Museum.
The Museum is part of the Villa Arbusto complex, which also includes
the A. Rizzoli Museum, the park and the “Villa Gingerò” exhibition
hall.

Das Archäologische Museum Pithecusae schildert die Geschichte
der Insel Ischia von der Prähistorie bis zur Römerzeit. Besonders
bemerkenswert sind hier die Objekte aus Keramik, die ein Zeitzeuge
des antiken Pithecusae sind. Dies war der einstige Name Ischias, der
ältesten Siedlung, die entlang der Mittelmeerküsten von Griechen
aus der Insel Euböa im zweiten Viertel des VIII. Jh. v.C. gegründet
wurde und eine Schlüsselrolle im Entstehen der Zivilisation der
sogenannten „Magna Graecia“ eingenommen hat. Die griechischen
Siedler haben auch zur Verbreitung der alphabetischen Schrift
beigetragen, wovon im Museum ein wichtiger Krug aus Rhodos
zeugt. Dieses mit einer Inschrift in Alphabetform verzierte Trinkgefäß
hat in der Archäologie unter dem Namen „Nestorbecher” Ruhm
erlangt. Das Museum ist Teil des Museumkomplexes Villa Arbusto,
wo man außerdem das kleine Museum A. Rizzoli, die Parkanlage
und den Ausstellungsraum „Villa Gingerò“ besichtigen kann.

Il Museo Diocesano di Ischia, ha due sedi. La prima, dedicata all’arte
sacra, espone marmi, sculture, dipinti e argenti provenienti dalle
chiese della diocesi, nei locali del Palazzo del Seminario, ad Ischia.
La seconda,ossia la sezione archeologica, fa parte del complesso
della Basilica di S. Restituta, a Lacco Ameno. E’un esempio di
valorizzazione di area di scavo poi musealizzata, che illustra le
vicende dell’insediamento di Pithecusae dall’età arcaica all’epoca
medievale.
The Diocesan Museum of Ischia is divided into two sections. The
first section is dedicated to religious art and it displays marble
sculptures, paintings and silver artefacts coming from the churches
of the Diocese. The archaeology section is part of the Santa Restituta
Basilica complex in Lacco Ameno. This is a great example of how an
archaeological excavation site was enhanced and transformed into
a museum that depicts the story of the colony of Pithecusae from
ancient history to the Middle Age.

Das Diözesanmuseum Ischia ist in zwei unterschiedlichen Gebäuden
und Gemeinden untergebracht. In der Abteilung mit Schwerpunkt auf
Sakralkunst sind Marmorwerke, Skulpturen, Bilder und Silberwaren
aus den Kirchen der Diözese ausgestellt. Diese Sammlung befindet
sich im „Palazzo del Seminario“ in Ischia Ponte.
Die zweite Abteilung, mit Schwerpunkt auf archäologische Funde,
gehört zum Komplex der Basilika von S. Restituta in Lacco Ameno.
Dies ist ein Beispiel für die gelungene Umwandlung einer ehemaligen
Ausgrabungsstätte in ein interessantes kleines Museum. Hier sind
die Geschehnisse der Siedlung Pithecusae von der archaischen Zeit
bis zum Mittelalter dokumentiert.
Идея создания музея возникла в начале 50-х годов благодаря
настоятелю храма Пьетро Монти, когда в 1951 году во
время строительных работ по реконструкции часовни,
посвященной африканской мученице Святой Реституте, был
обнаружен раннехрестианский склеп, располагавшийся
непосредственно под полом часовни.

Il Torrione è la più grande torre di Forio: altissima a dominare l’intero
abitato, racchiusa in un fitto tessuto di edifici quasi tutti di pregevole
consistenza architettonica. Fino a pochi anni addietro, per lo stato di
conversazione, era la migliore tra le oltre cinquanta torri facenti parti
del sistema difensivo medioevale presenti sull’isola. Fu costruita
a spese dell’Università nel 1480 come torre di avvistamento e di
difesa, per far fronte alle incursioni del Barbarossa e di altri corsari
cui Forio era particolarmente esposta.
Composta di tre piani coperti da volte emisferiche di cui quella
superiore lunettata, attualmente, dopo restauri effettuati negli anni
Ottanta, la sala inferiore è sede del Museo Civico del Torrione ed è
utilizzata per mostre temporanee, quella superiore ospita il Museo
Civico Giovanni Maltese, dove sono conservate le sculture e le
pitture lasciate dalla moglie dell’artista al Comune.
Il Torrione is the tallest tower in Forio: plunged in a dense fabric
of buildings, most of which of exquisite architectural structure, Il
Torrione dominates the whole village. Thanks to its preservation
status, for many years it has been regarded as the best of the
over fifty towers that formed the Medieval defensive system of the
island. The Municipal authorities financed the construction of this
watchtower to defend Forio, which was particularly exposed to the
incursions of corsair Barbarossa (Italian for “Redbeard”) and other
fellow pirates..
The three floored tower with barrel vault ceilings, of which the upper
one with a lunette, underwent a series of restoration activities during
the Eighties; the lower hall now houses the Torrione Civic Museum,
while the upper hall is home to the Giovanni Maltese Civic Museum,
which showcases the statues and paintings that the artist’s wife
donated to the municipality.

Der „Torrione“ ist der größte Turm Forios: Er beherrscht den
gesamten Ort, und ist eingeflochten in ein dichtes Netzwerk von
Gebäuden, von denen fast alle besonderes architektonisches
Interesse aufweisen. Bis vor einigen Jahren war der Torrione der
am besten erhaltene der über fünfzig Wachtürme, aus denen das
mittelalterliche Schutzsystem der Insel bestand. Er wurde 1480 auf
Kosten der Gemeinde als Aussichtsturm gebaut, zum Schutz vor
den Streifzügen des Piraten Barbarossa („Rotbart“) und anderer
Seeräuber, denen Forio besonders ausgesetzt war.
Der Turm besteht aus drei Etagen, jede davon überdacht mit
halbrunden Gewölben, die oberste davon mit einer Lünette. Seit den
in den achtziger Jahren durchgeführten Restaurierungsarbeiten ist
der untere Raum Sitz des städtischen „Museo Civico del Torrione“
geworden und wird für wandernde Ausstellungen benutzt, während
der obere Raum das „Museo Civico Giovanni Maltese“ beherbergt,
wo die Skulpturen und Bilder des Künstlers (von dessen Witwe der
Gemeinde vermacht) ausgestellt sind.
В средние века берега Искьи были усеяны сторожевыми
башнями. Одна из этих башен, башня Торрионе, существует и
сегодня. Башня расположена в селении Форио, рядом с портом.
С начала XVI столетия остров Искья был объектом постоянных
атак пиратов Северной Африки, самым знаменитым из
которых был легендарный Барбаросса. Неудивительно, что
жители острова жили в основном рядом с башнями, и при
первой же опасности старались покинуть свои жилища с тем,
чтобы укрыться за крепостными стенами.
Башня Il Torrione была построена в 1480 году и имеет три
этажа, использовавшихся для хранения оружия и припасов и
размещения гарнизона, на сегодняшний день представляет
собой музей и дом памяти Джованни Мальтийский, где
представленны скульптуры и картины художника.
