My Year as Lord Mayor
“It was a huge honour for me and my family
to serve as Lord Mayor of Dublin for 2012-2013.
We had a very busy year! There were so many
highlights including:
Delivering a Digital Masterplan for Dublin.
Kicking off the Lord Mayors 5-challenge and the
first ever O’Connell Street Mile.
Instigating KiteFest – a family day for flying kites
on Dollymount Strand.
But my personal highlight had to be the arrival
of our baby Caoilfhionn to the Mansion House
– only the 4th baby to be born to a serving Lord
Mayor since records began!
Once again thank you for your support while I
was Lord Mayor – it was much appreciated.

REDUCE LOCAL PROPERTY TAX BY 15% BY 2019
From 2015, each local council can vary their Local Property Tax rate by up to 15%.
The Fine Gael group on Dublin City Council successfully reduced commercial
rates every year for the last five years in order to support job creation and
keep Dublin competitive. Fine Gael will adopt a similar approach to the Local
Property Tax with the aim of delivering the full 15% reduction by 2019.
CLONTARF FLOOD DEFENCE
The beautiful seafront in Clontarf needs a permanent flood defence
system that provides adequate protection for local residents while
minimising the loss of visual and other amenity. The emergence of a
dual-wall flood defence strategy as a potential viable option is a very
welcome development in this regard. I will work hard to ensure full
public consultation on any new scheme and will work with the Office
of Public Works with the aim of gaining funding support for a new
proposal.
BETTER TREE MANAGEMENT – PRUNING, ROOTS AND
MAINTENANCE
Did you know that Dublin City Council spent €340,000 on tree
pruning in 2013? In my ongoing dialogue with constituents, tree
pruning and roots maintenance is one of the most regular topics
for discussion. I will work with Dublin City Council to develop new
and innovative techniques to manage the impact of mature trees
in our area.
PROTECTING AND ENHANCING ST. ANNE’S PARK
Protecting and enhancing St Anne’s Park has been a top priority
for Fine Gael for the last 5 years. Over €373,000 has been
invested in facilities there since 2009. This investment has delivered
a range of improvements including new swings and playground facilities, river
culverting, revitalised paths and surfaces and the installation of a Chinese Garden, a Tree
Trail and a Wild Flower Meadow.
St Anne’s is a wonderful facility and I will work to secure further resources to:
• Further enhance children’s play areas.
• Fund the restoration of the historical St. Anne’s Follies.
• Continue improving the quality of walking and playing surfaces.

I am standing in the Local Elections in our area
on the 23rd of May.
It has been my honour and privilege to represent
you on Dublin City Council for the last 5 years. It
was a particular honour for me and my family to
serve as Lord Mayor of Dublin for 2012-2013.
This leaflet sets out my local priorities for the
next 5 years - those priorities have been set
based on ongoing dialogue with local residents.
I have worked hard to ensure that your concerns
are voiced and addressed at City Council level. I
am asking you for your No. 1 vote on the 23rd of
May so I can continue working for you.

CYCLEWAY FROM FAIRVIEW
PARK TO THE DOCKLANDS
Northside cyclists should have a
safe cycleway that they can use to
get from Fairview Park to the City
Centre. At the moment cyclists
leaving Fairview Park have to join
heavy traffic as they make their
way along North Strand. There was a
proposal some years ago to develop a new
cycle route from Fairview through East Wall
to the Docklands. This was defeated after
some intensive local lobbying. I will take this
issue up again with a view to identifying
a safe route for cyclists through East Wall
that will be acceptable to the majority.
DUBLIN CITY COUNCIL – SERVICES
FOR SENIOR CITIZENS
Dublin City Council is involved in providing
a range of services for our senior citizens
including:
Mobility Aids/Older People Housing Grant
Scheme – grant support for private dwellers to
assist with addressing mobility issues (grab rails,
access ramps, level access showers, stair-lifts) and with
general improvements (e.g. roof repairs, re-wiring)
Vantastic - free local shopping transport
service in our area.
Passport for Leisure - a discount card and
directory that unlocks a vast array of free and
discounted leisure opportunities for over 55s
in the Dublin area. I will work with Dublin City
Council to ensure that senior citizens are better informed about the
services that are available and that those services reach those who
need them most.
A TARTAN RUNNING TRACK FOR THE NORTHSIDE
Raheny Shamrocks is one of the best-known athletics clubs in Ireland
– it is both a nursery for athletics talent and a feeder of athletes to
other sports on the Northside. The club has developed an exciting
proposal to build and run a public 400-metre tartan running track
on the edge of St. Anne’s Park in partnership with Dublin City Council
and other interested bodies like the Athletics Association of Ireland.
This facility would be a terrific local amenity and enable further
development of local talent in our area. I will work with Dublin City
Council officials to see if we can help deliver this excellent project.
