2. SAVANI HERITAGE CONSERVATION PVT. LTD.
– Truly, we live our promise of ‘Restoring the lost Glory’
• ‘जीण ारक’ – In Sanskrit means ‘Restoring the lost Glory’. History comes alive, when we walk
into one of these Heritage structures – the sounds of warm trumpets, beating of drums, Sky high
ceilings, Pieces of art, Grandiose of live of Kings and Queens, Voices of masses, Famous speeches
and heart pounding sense of patriotism and glory. Every step into heritage takes us back in time
and reminds us of the sense of architectural perfection, magic of artistry, weaving culture into
the colourful tapestry of life and a sense of connection and bonding to help us define – ‘Who we
are’ and be proud of our rich cultural & architectural heritage.
• We at Savani Heritage have been living the same dream for over 23 years, restoring more than
100+ Heritage sites. We have been ‘Recreating History’ to bring alive the lost Grandeur of these
heritage sites. We have extensively researched to bring traditional and conventional techniques
into modern environment friendly approaches. Our use of Lime mortar enables use of lime
pointing, construction of mouldings and cornices in lime mortar, waterproofing and restoration
of Mangalore tile pitched roofs, cleaning stone facades, removing deposits, etc. We also rework
the foundation and structural strengthening of weak structures. We are adept at retro-fitting of
heritage structures and working on ceiling, gilding and interiors. Recreating art work, light
fittings, story boards, visuals, etc. is part of our every day jobs of our highly trained and creative
team.
3. THE BOMBAY HIGH COURT.
• From 1668 to 1715, the British east India company had set base here. The first two governors of
Mumbai took massive measures in populating the city. They built a port for 20 ships, warehouses,
a custom house, a mint complete with fortification. They began encouraging people to
popoulate Bombay. With their efforts, the population of the island increased six fold in a span of
7 years. By 1854, with the advent of mills, civil war, and the political transfer of power from east
india company to the crown, Bombay boomed economically.
• It was amidst this economic boom that the then Governor, Sir Bartle Frere, decided to demolish
the fortified walls. The town had been under constant threat of fire and disease. Tearing down
the walls would also allow better accessibility for trade, commerce and more immigrants, further
booming economy. Once the walls were pulled down, parts of the sea reclaimed, land was
available for, infrastructure, housing and public development. This was the ‘New town’ or
popularly addressed as the ‘Frere town’.
4. • Today, buildings like The Public Works Department, The Bombay High Court, The Bombay
University, The Rajabai tower, along the Oval, were once a fortification! These and many
more, beautiful, European flavoured buildings dedicated to justice, learnings, finance,
health, hospitality, communication, transport and trade, indeed made Bombay the Urbs
Prima of India (the First city of India)in line with Governor Frere’s dream.
