3. What do we mean by
Early marriage?
Early marriage : is either one or both of the
married couple being under the age of 18
years old or in high school .

4. History of Early Marriage:
In the 20th century, the practice of child marriages
began to be questioned. Early Marriages were the
norm in most parts of the world.
In Western Europe, marriages were, considered to be
a primarily economic transaction . “romantic”
conception of marriage : romantic love, and
individual fulfillment ,became ideal.

5. Reason behind early Marriage
1. Consider ensuring their daughter’s marriage as
their final duty in raising her.
2. Men exercise the preponderance of power in the
society .

daughters in hope that it will benefit them both
financially and socially.

7. Consequences of Early Marriage:

2. Impact on the well-being of children: the mother is neither
psychologically or physiologically ready to care for her children .

10. Subjects and methods
1.Cross sectional study.
2. Par Hospital , bnaslawa primary health care center , shahidan
health center and one private clinic in Erbil city.
3. 13th Jan - 28th Feb 2017.
4. 150 married women by convenience
5. Questionnaire included 10 questions
sampling.

11. 6. The data was collected by filling out questionnaires in one of
two ways:
- Direct interview for approximately 10 minutes.
- Self-administered.
7. Verbal permission was granted.
8. The anonymity of participants was insured.
9. SPSS was used for data entry and analysis.
